Okay, I read through 18 pages and posted to find it had grown to 20... This is a copy of what I wrote:
Phew... I finally just finished reading ALL 18 pages of this thread and yes, it too a couple of hours, but THAT is how important this issue is to me.
A little background first...
I was an entertainer in last stage of beta.
I was and continue to be an entertainer in live.
My character runs a band Talus Moon on Eclipse and is a Master Dancer, Master Musician, and Master Entertainer (with a little medic thrown in).
It is the latter that makes the game fun for me. I no longer hang out in cantinas or hotels and haven't for months. I rehearse with the band, we do gigs etc and only rarely will I buff someone in my home city. It's not that I don't enjoy those things, it's that I don't enjoy them as much as I do band because it is CREATIVE.
For a 'career' (for want of a better word) entertainer like myself and countless others (citing a couple who posted here MoyaWookiee, Ouch4372 p12, OrionsByte p13), the macro system is the creative tool we use as part of our armoury.
It is necessary for small things like:
- Glitzy clothes changes
- Special lighting effect routines
- Equipping instruments etc (not that we can change these mid song anymore thanks to that awful pause of 15 seconds between stopping and starting performing, thanks exploiters... great one
)
The main use though is for dance choreography and band scores (equiv. of orchestral score with cues etc). We have spent MANY MANY hours working hard in rehearsals and outside of them to put together songs that work as a whole performance to show people just how much can be achieved with the entertainment system as it stands in game (and we do not bandflo either, we do it all manually from cues, far more fun). There is SO much more to it than many people think. Using these tools actually helps to inspire others to have fun in new ways.
Neither of the above use RECURSIVE macros in the truest definition of the word. However, they DO use aliases that call one another, e.g.
verse1: /g Musicians /cdpr on my mark; /pause 5; /mark; /verse2;
verse2: /sing La la la this is a test; /pause 5; /verse3;
verse3: /sing etc...
Say I start a song by typing /verse1. At the moment it will execute verse2, verse4 etc. Although it isn't calling itself, it is calling another alias. Will THIS type of thing be stopped?
This particular example dosn't call verse1 again, but we do have some songs scored where you call the chorus again. Yes there are work arounds for this by cueing myself to trigger the next alias (already do this in certain cases)... but if this is going to affect us, we need to know so we can schedule time to rewrite our repertoire and not take gig bookings which require those numbers.
So my answer to your question is:
YES, it will affect me and my fellow band members.
It will require us to rewrite our entire repertoire to make workarounds for the system should they be needed.
My questions to you are:
- Exactly HOW do you intend to implement the disappearance of recursive macros?
- Will we still be able to use /ui action to equip clothes and instruments?

Now, call me crazy for thinking this, but lets say i have a flourish macro (with /join commands put in between every flourish, since there are 0 recursive macros of any form) that takes half an hour to get from start to finish. couldn't i then execute a 2nd macro when i start the first one that would have a /pause 1800 at the beginning (with the idea that i can eventually have 23 hours of macro running at the same time)? Just a thought. (i.e. i'm not even a buffbot, and i'm sure there are those who are even smarter than me who come up with a better way. the /join command at every flourish just makes it easier for me to kill them ^_^)

/cheer! This is great news for the Entertainer classes. It's much much more than a band-aid -- at least if it's implemented effectively. If it really does eliminate botting, it will mark a significant upgrade in our playstyle.
Some people askhow AFK'ers harm Live entertainers. AFK'ers harm us by marginalizing us. Why talk to a live Dancer when you can click on a bot? Why tip a Musician when you can deal with a bot for free? Why chat with anyone at all in the supposed social gathering spot since there's a better-than-even chance that they're AFK? Why take any pride in being a Master Musician when you can AFK your way up to Master in a few days? I did it at the keyboard, over 3 or 4 weeks after launch, without the use of a single macro. It was fun.
This is great news indeed. Let's just hope the devs implement it right. For now, my hat's off to them for deciding to do the right thing.

This sucks I think. I go to the buffbot near Cnet all the time for mind buffs. I can never find an entertainer to give mind buffs that is not afk.

Fixing the issue that this addresses the absolute best thing that could ever happen to the entertainer professions. This is not the ideal solution for us in particular but it is a solution that goes across the board and guarantees other professions wont' be plagued with the same issue down the road.
The reason why you can't find mind buffs is:
1) You are not really looking.
2) There are very few of us who are willing to dance in public on priciple, while being treated like NPCs and disrespected and degraded.
Once AFKers are gone both of these issues will be moot, the game will be healthier overall, and the section of the player base that enjoys entertaining will once again be free to enjoy themselves without the degradation of AFK "players" and bots.
Give it a chance before you complain. This will make mind buffs easier to find and a lot more reliable to get.

Yep, I'm confident this change will actually make it easier to find an entertainer. If every entertainer is at the keyboard, then all you need to do is go to Coronet or Theed or Mos Eisley and you've got yourself an entertainer. It *would* help if the devs would fix /register, but in the meantime you've got /who searches and tells.
I play combat professions. I've never ever had to use an AFK bot to heal my BF or wounds.

And then gets baned for it lol. Sure, some will still do it, they'll hide away in private homes and keep at it. The ones that do it in public will eventually get caught and banned. Before long the ones doing it in private will be less convenient than using a real ATK player because you'll have to seek them out, and they will be very selective of who they buff for fear of being reported.
So yes, some will use 3rd party and get away with it. But the bots will be in the *minority* not the majority now, and if they are ever found out, we can actually take action against them now.

Then also say hello to the era where other players are able to succesfully report the exploiters and such accounts being suspended or even banned.

If this goes through I will cancel my both of my accounts.
For those of you cheering "Yay" will you be making the rounds to all of the cities on all of the planets at 1am to serve the customers that were being helped by afkers?
Nope. Was your buffbot making all the rounds to all the cities on all the planets? Didn't think so. Shoo.

And say hello to an era where live entertainers will jump out of their seats to help SOE police the EULA.

I /cheer for this change. But removing recursive macros without other changes as well, will just make people resentful and angry.
