This is happening to ALL of us on Tarquinas! Usually it helps if your patron is standing RIGHT IN YOU...but even then, last night it did not!

Well, I'm getting it again.

It went away for a day or two, and now it's back.

I've had people repeatedly /listen or /watch...over and over, and it will finally "stick" after the fifth or sixth try.

I had it over the weekend in a player cantina... we found that if you went outside and /listened or /watched you could do that and then when you can inside you stayed watching/listening.

I've always perceived this problem as "the server does not know where you are because it hasn't updated your location", not some complicated combination of conditions (because there are just too many possible condition combinations to be able to pinpoint an exception). As such, I've come across a workaround that has successfully worked 100% of the time over the last week.

When a client is unable to watch me, I instruct him/her to "just sit there doing nothing (absolutely nothing save for talking perhaps) for a couple minutes". Thisallows the code that updates the watcher's location to complete executing after which the watcher can watch. I'm sure the length of wait time is a function of connection/processor speed, but a couple minutes always seems to work. When I arrive to a dance location, I also wait a couple minutes before starting to dance to make sure my location updates (this is probably unnecessary because I stay in one location long enough for the server to actually finish updating my location).

Computers can only execute one command at a time. When we're moving about the galaxy/planet, the game must execute code to update our locations. That update process seems to be interrupted when we execute another action. That update process, when interrupted, does eventually complete but it seems to take a lot longer as it only gets processor time when other actions aren't executing.

This concludes my analysis of the problem...

It's still ingame after Publish 18. I had several people state that they were unable to watch/listen to any performer in the ME cantina yesterday - and the ents were all new.

Thanks for the tip on sitting down, that seemed to help most of the players who were unable to watch/listen.

One of my friends on Radiant said that maybe SOE made the bug purposefully so they could push entertainers into combat professions. They seem to be trying to do that with all the other non-combat classes.

OK dancer and scout -- out in a camp -- no problems with the too far away message.

Return to Mos Espa cantina. The dancer is "too far away".

[1] Scout disconnected (to character select screen)

on login found herself near the entrance - out of sight

entered the room - still too far away

[2] Dancer disconnected (to character select screen)

on login found herself in the same place as logout

started dancing, but scout found her still too far away

[3] Both Avatars attempted to sit down in the chairs.

upon right click, only the examine button showed.

after moving around the room, finally found one

table "close enough" to show the sit button

both characters sat at the first table

dancer got up to dance -- still too far away

[4] Scout decided to exit game (to desktop)

Still too far away....

Well.... Now both dancing and music are bugged.... I've gotten three blocks of Music experience ... and one of Healing.

Wonder if I should just trash this character.

The work around I use for this is to tell the customers to move around me until they find a spot where they can listen. Sometimes going exiting the cantina and coming back in works. If your at the keyboard you can usually help the customer and no one has to walk away with BF

It takes a few tries sometimes andoften they have to stand right on top of mebut that's pretty much what I've been doing too.

That this bug has been with us this long is unacceptable. It is a game breaking bug for the main interdependancy skill of three professions and nothing has been done to fix it.
