Hehe, but Tess...there are actually some entertainers, I won't name any names, who refuse to buff and tell patrons to go use the buffbots instead. And, then they point the finger at others for having a bad attitude. /shrug

Yes the buffbots create an artificial market place that tends to drive down prices. Supply determines price. If the supply is plentiful the price declines. Buffbots make the supply very high. But keep in mind, rarity in and of itself does not ALWAYS push the price up. If the PERCEIVED value of the service itself is not high enough to make people seek it out then the price will NOT mirror supply. Right now people perceive that minds buffs are readily available and they buy them. If the buffbots disappear and we dont fill the gap by being available then its JUST as likely that people will stop Buying mindbuffs and simply get by with food and drugs and the like.

On my server the robots seem to be driving prices up not down - they charge much more than I'd ever have thought of charging.

My main concern with robots isn't that I can't compete because I can't be there 23/7, it's that they cheapen the profession. Many players seem to think "If a robot can do it then it must not be a very good profession".I challenge the buff bots because I am mobile. I've even started carrying a housing deed in my inventory so I can buff and heal any where. But if the buff bots are eventually eliminated from the game, I wonder how much of the "I need a robot" mind set will remain. A lot of players stopped looking at entertainers as fellow players - and thus stopped treating them as such. It will take a long time to undo that damage and I'm worried that some servers may never fully recover.

Just curious... What do you make on average as an entertainer? I know I make roughly 30-40k over an average 4 hour session. Hardly in the same league as combat, or even upper artisan players, but then my costs are much lower as a dancer, as well.

I dunno...I haven't really took the time to count. These days I usually don't spend that much time in a Cantina because I get too frustrated. Maybe 2 hours at a time, maybe 20K (4 customers in 2 hours)..I guess about the same on average then...if I'm trying to actively buff. If not...then maybe average a couple hundred credits. But, that doesn't bother me if I don't get anything when I'm not buffing. I'd just like our "commodity" to be worth something again. I just want to be part of the interdependency, that's really all I'm asking for.

And, I dunno about you, but I'm constantly buying stuff. The only way I can afford to buy the things that I do is because I supplement my income with combat skills. Otherwise, there's no way I could afford to buy much at all.

(can't believe I'm doing this)
I'm surprised the male/female issue with regard to tips hasn't come up yet.

Buff-Bots are the only way to go guys, sorry to say it, but i dont want to wait around for you to log on or ask where you are at that particular moment when i need a buff. It already takes long enough to prep for hunting. Even with a second account doctor it takes at least 30min's just to start playing the damn game. On a side note....shouldnt there be a slicing terminal since some of us slice like 20 items at a time?

Why not go one better, lets just put up a vendor that spits out buffs, slicing, heals, credits, loot armor and weapons, Then you wont have to "waste" any of your precious time doing stupid things like interacting with other people ever again. Oh wait there is a game like that out there already its called counterstrike.

The existence of males dancing doesn't imply the 'doing ok [financially]' of males dancing. I make next to squat as a musician but I'm in it cause I love the music .
To put this in a non-financial concrete example, yesterday I was playing my music standing right next to a female dancer, and there were 3 or 4 players who came in that I think I probably interacted with more than she did, but who directed all their comments at her, including such things as "thanks [name]" when I'm pretty sure I was being listened to as well (I got the whole music-pausing-when-someone-uses-stoplisten bug at least one time). I tried decently hard to get some of the attention but to no avail.
Incidentally, I certainly don't begrudge the dancer, who is a friend of mine. She just happened to be the female dancer dancing next to me .
Meh, it's not a huge deal to me or anything, but I don't think it's a non-issue in general .

"Meh, it's not a huge deal to me or anything, but I don't think it's a non-issue in general."

It is as far as being able to fix it. The devs can squash buffbotting, but I doubt they can spontaneously change the demographics of the customer base away from being predominantly male.

A good point. I'm not throwing it in to try and 'fix' it, just something I thought I'd mention. For example, if I argue that I need buffbots fixed cause I can't make any money and a female dancer comes up to me and says "what are you talking about, I make 50k in tips per night?" I wouldn't imagine we're coming from the same perspectives.
But then yes, I suppose as people we tend to talk more about things we can do anything about, as it's more, as they say, constructive .

(P.S. yes, I've made some generalizations. just for example of the point)
