Thread: CU Update: Blair on Ents

I still think they are going about this whole CU wrong. They are focusing on Combat and what they view as the immediate players (the combat professions) however an upgrade like this affects ever single profession whether it be the fighter (the obvious ones), the crafters or the entertainers. All professions are inter-dependent upon one another in one way or another, and saying something to the effect of "well we will adress the entertainer profession afterwards" is now seeing the full scope but thinking in a smaller box.

Our profession will be affected as soon as the CU goes live - our profession along with any other non combat needs to be altered - at "the same time" as the combat ones.

Ok and reading some other threads about Entertainers not needing the same amount of $ as combatants - hogwash! Every profession - and I mean "every" profession should have the opportunity to make the same amount of $ on mission terminals that are related to their professions. Masters make more obviously. Trust me combatants don't need Uber Armor and Uber Weapons to be successful in their professions - they only do it now because its available. Our highest mission is 2k for 10 minutes of game time - I can get a 6k rebel mission on Naboo and go to it and snub out the Imps in less than 2 minutes (solo) - just because I weild a sword should not make me more worthy of decent missions off the mission terminals.

I have been a Master Dancer sinceNovember 2003.

I hate buffing. I have always hated buffing and the sooner buffing leaves the better.I like dancing and working off BF. I am a bit sorry to see that BF is reduced so fast now. Prior to buffs BF reduction was the focus of dancing and the duration it took to eliminate BF enabled routines, singing and other interaction. That was a lot of funfor me. However, I reduce BF so fast now its hard to accomplish the previous acts I was doing. The article acknowledged an intent to support a "social" game player. But the reality is that once a "non-social" game player has their needs attended to (either buff or BF reduction) they are gone 9 times out of 10.

It is obvious that we are being left out of the CU on purpose. It also can be inferred that the Dev's believe that making the entertainment field have three advanced professions will facilitate customers (players) that play for the social aspect to remain with the game. Maybe that's true? However, my preference is for Dancer, Musician and Image Designer not to be advanced professions. I love being a dancer, but would much rather do other things in the game than be either a Image Designer or Musician. However, with Dancer being an advanced profession the amount of skill points I have left becomes limited.

Maybe this isn't the intent of this thread, but here's what I'd do withan entertainment revamp based on a reduced role for us after the CU. I would eliminate the entertainer profession. I would make Dancer, Musician, and Image Designer all basic professions. I would then add to each of those professions the items that are approrpiate to them but are in the current entertainer base tree (otherwise they'd disappear after entertainer was eliminated). These added itemscould replace the holes in the skill treesthat will be created after the CU. Also, by reducing these to basic professions it will free up a large number of skill points that could then be used in other professions.

The CU is going to be a fact and its already written on the wall that the entertainers design concept is to chain them inside of the cantinas. Rather than try and get them to design changes for us that they will not do, why not try and get them to enable us to do bothwhat we want to do,and tostill have enough skill points left to where we can do a LOT of other things as well?

Geeze, looks like I am just rattling.

Good grief - part of the reason I took up Master Rifle was to support myself financially!! My spending habits are like water through a sieve **laughs**.

I have a lot of expenses that are entertainer centric - the cantina, the Performing Arts PA hall, various "entertainer instructors" and "suppliers" who hold all my instruments, party poppers, dice etc etc etc. The harvesters and factories I use totake care of troupe outfits - and then there is the lil empire of houses dedicated to my wardrobe. I also keep another house well stocked with all manner of useful items for our guild as our storage, and that ranges fromlocked containers, resources, crystals, loot components, furniture for people moving into the city and don't have thecash/time to find the deco.... **gasps for breath** and I won't even start on food/drink, bike repairs, weapons, armorand everything else **laughs**

And then there is the habit of just traipsing around various cities, just to check out what people have on their vendors and finding the top bargains, and you know how you just can't walk away from a really great price on hawtpants...

**Anoewyn has earnt 500000000000000000 shopping xp**

Seriously though - we deserve to be able to earn a decent living. And unfortunately, tips and the mission payouts just don't cut it. Today's tipping culture is appalling, namely because buffbots give away everything we offer for free. The /denyservice command was implemented to rid us of nasty people, and I truly don't think any of us really would have used it to hold our services at ransom unless the person behaved in an inappropriate manner. However, in this day and age, the /deny service is useless as well - there is no consequence for the person being denied, as they will just switch their /watch or /listen to a buffbot - why? Because buffbots don't bite back.

I think a large part of making the entertainers a viable and valued member (and I say valued instead of valuable. We are already valuable, its just a matter convincing everyone else :smileywink has to do with the removal of AFK. As long as we can be automated 24/7 by a looping program, then we will have no viability or respect from the combat playerbase. I would also like to see entertainers be given some skills that willgive players who cannot beentertainers due to their template some reason to "envy" us,even in a small way. I'd also like to see some kind of fame system that we can work at to earn new rewards, and have our horizons expanded beyond the cantina. I'd like to see us gain some abilities thatallow us to interactwith our patrons - likean /offerdance command, where we take their hand and give them a twirl around the dancefloor for asmall period of time (likea couple dance), or pull a coin out from behind their ear (I dunno, is kinda cheesy - but yah things like that).

Personally I think we should get some defence bonuses and dodge bonuses in the CURB.

Hear me out for a sec...

Back before my accident I did a lot, and I mean a LOT of things like Fencing, Kendo, taekwondo and other such fun activities wherin one person beats the other senceless.

And from that experience I can tell you, a Dancer/gymnast is WAY THE HELL AND GONE harder to hit than a non dancer. My cousinwas aballet dancer, and between her ballet and my gymnastics, we kept all the boys in the club on their toes constantly (personally I think it was unfair but I got the knickname 'nutcracker sweety' in the weekend). It's just the training a dancer puts their body through that allows for that kind of movement.

Add to that the hand/eye coordination that a dancer develops from dancing in a troupe, and you have one heck of a defensive posture.

The thing is, how to present this to one of the DEVS...

Any blue glowies/coorespondants have an idea how? Or is it a dumb idea?

Just a RL example here of how I see the combat/entertainer profit system here. Who makes more money Eric Clapton (Musician) or an Army General? I'm not saying we should make MORE than the combatants just bring us up to being competative with them on a buying power aspect.

The majority of musicians I know drive '73 Pintos and bus tables between gigs if they can't land enough students to pay the rent on the studio apt they share with a bandmate.

Yeah there are wealthy musicians but the majority are starving.

Seeing as how this is a game where we want to play heros lets leave RL to RL and concentrate on getting the best fantasy experience we can from our professions

You missed the point sweety. The point was that the current system very much gives us the RL entertainer experience where only one in a million entertainers does extremely well. Compare that to combat where EVERY combat player is able to do well even with a limited game play experience.

We all want to be the best, the hero. No one wants to drive the pinto and bus tables to earn enough for that new dancer's leotard and we should have that chance. Why, because this IS our fantasy world where we get to live exciting and rewarding lives

All I'm getting at darlin is that as you work your way up through the ranks so to speak it should be like the fighters working up. You scrimp and save but once you master you SHOULD be making the same money a combatant does, you should be the one that has paid their dues by bussing tables, doing the week long contract for 100cr but those days should be behind you. Missions for us should scale like they do for the combat professions but base it on our entertainer skill not a weapon proficincy like the Artisan missions are.

Ohhh darn it I guess I'll have to go find a new game then to get that out of it... Maybe some game that will let me start out as a commoner farmers daughter from the middle ages in the middle of a drought where we must pay protection fees to the local Noble... hmm yes I can see it now... day 2 slowly starving to death... do I try and steal from the noble so I can eat... or do I chew on that tree... Hmm yes sounds like a lot of fun... but only if you HAVE to eat and drink in the game to live... and only if it has perma death after 1 death...
