Hmm yes sounds like a lot of fun... but only if you HAVE to eat and drink in the game to live... and only if it has perma death after 1 death...

Just a RL example here of how I see the combat/entertainer profit system here. Who makes more money Eric Clapton (Musician) or an Army General? I'm not saying we should make MORE than the combatants just bring us up to being competative with them on a buying power aspect.

The majority of musicians I know drive '73 Pintos and bus tables between gigs if they can't land enough students to pay the rent on the studio apt they share with a bandmate.

Yeah there are wealthy musicians but the majority are starving.

Seeing as how this is a game where we want to play heros lets leave RL to RL and concentrate on getting the best fantasy experience we can from our professions

If I am a novice entertainer, then I would drive the Pinto and bus tables. When I've spent the time, effort, and skill points to be a master dancer or master musician, then I want the Rolls Royce and the mansion, and the wardobe, and the high end decorations for the mansion. I want the extra cash that I can try to help an up and coming entertainer if they deserve it, or to fund a cantina crawl, or to open a cruise line with my yacht, or to throw a grand gala in support of whatever cause I deem worthy.

Masters of ANY elite profession, be it a crafter, a combat character, or an entertainer, should be able to be 'comfortable' if not well off.

I'm a little on the outside looking in here, not being an entertainer (haven't tried to make the dancer alt yet, yes I am peeking in y'all's forums with a purpose in mind)...still. I agree with the statement, entertainers should have the ability to be successful without resorting to combat. So should crafters, image designers, politicians, what have you. Trouble is the article doesn't go into any detail about what that role should be.

There was some mention of 'long-lasting entertainer buffs' if I'm remembering correctly...again, no details on what those might be. I don't wanna be a buffbot, granted, but for all I know I'd be able to dance a jig for somebody and they'd be able to lift a Rancor with one hand. That might be one answer to making the prof more viable, still, giving more types of buffs to cast--want more accuracy in combat? Go to your local dancer, have them do step A, twirl, do step B, flourish...

The social aspects and the cantina/hall should stay, but saying those are the end-all be-all is a bit like saying me as a TKM can tank a Nightsister as the end-all be-all...okay, I got it, now what do I do? Y'all need more to keep you interested, viable, and above all able to support your craft.

Well Chess looking at the combat professions document tanking is all we TKM's will be able to do, we won't be able to deal enough damage to actually drop the mob. So you either get a second combat profession that deals damage or if you are like me and enjoy entertaining as well as combat you settle for tanking and singing and the heck with being viable.

I've looked at those documents...they seem like overgeneralizations to me. Saying one prof's purpose is X doesn't mean a player can't use it for Y. Admittedly whether I'll be able to drop five Janta shamans in just a minute or two using my VK and spin attacks is unknown, perhaps doubtful--truthfully, I can live with that if it means combat makes a bit more sense than it does now.

'Sides...I'm a Teras Kasi Master/Master Commando Damage I can do.

At any rate...if the CU's purpose isn't to make ALL professions viable, there's something seriously wrong in my admittedly biased opinion. Dancers included. Yes, they're not gonna be able to drop a krayt with their flourishes, but if there's not a way for entertainers to stay as viable as anyone else, the game will be totally broken.
