Thread: Dancing macro
I tried making some today with mixed results. I made some that would stand, start a dance, do 2 complete sets of all 8 flourishes with 15sec between, then sit down for 3min, stand, & start a dance. This isn't a looping macro BTW.
It seemed to work for the most part, but a lot of times I would get a message saying i couldn't do whatever "while running". Seems like a bug to me because I was never running & even turned default to walk, with no difference.
I run a 10minute macro on my dancer, I find it usefull to Keep the exp comming in while i chat...go to the fridge, tinkle, change the channel...ect. Its a usefull tool.
Small macros like this i Highly recomend, very usefull. Now the Long Multiple Hour macro's are just plain stupid tho, its lazy(although Given, Writing a good one takes some time)
Toppdog... it sounds to me like you need a longer pause after your /stand; command. Don't recall off the top of my head how long it takes the system to recognise you are no longer in motion, try a /pause 5; or /pause 7;. Hope that helps.
Hemloch,
When in a group of entertainers, I can get up to 150 xp per flourish, now granted i was around Dancing Knowledge 2 or 3 at the time, but solo i was only getting around 40 per flourish. Healing exp is worse in a group because you get less but it's better because you gain when someone is watching someone else. Now healing exp isn't much of a worry until you max out one of your healing lines at that point exp seems to slow to a halt. Granted i think we gain exp to fast overall but compared to dance exp healing goes to nearly nothing. I got over 800k dance exp to about 100k healing exp last weekend. Grouping is definitely the way to go if you are not roleplaying. You also gain from the knowledge of the others in your group. Usually in group i answer alot of questions from other Dancers and even the musicians, and when there are no customers it gives you a place to carry on and joke around when waiting for someone to come in with news of their battles.

Yes, I am interested too. I read that you can create the macro in notepad & place it inside your SWG folder, but are you supposed to rename the file type? Like from ".txt" to ".mac" or something like that? The manuals & such provided by SOE are pretty weak on any details whatsoever.
I tried the /load command but it said it failed to load the file. Once the file is in the SWG folder, do you type:
/load FileName
or:
/load Filename.xxx
& if it's .xxx, what is the ".xxx" supposed to be?
Macros have been an issue of contention since beta, and will continue to be. I don't use them. Some people make short ones, so they can socialize more easily.
But if anyone believes there are not dancers and musicians who are using them to create hours worth of macros and go AFK overnight, they are naive. There are several musicians and a few dancers on Starsider who have done just that - it's a joke, because some have even programmed speaking out loud to the audience so no one 'knows' they are away.
The tragedy is that I don't understand why anyone would bother being an Entertainer of any sort if you don't enjoy what you're doing enough to get over the fact that leveling takes time and just actually enjoy what you do. I'm about 2/3 to Master Dance, have Novice Musician and am a Master Entertainer, and have never run any macros. But that's MY choice. It doesn't mean that people who run small macros so they can better socialize or so that they can get a song just right are bad.
I will say, though, that the dance and music bots are a bit sad, and more than anything, because they steal xp from other players if they are not grouped, or get leveled by the group if they are. If someone watches or listens to them while they're afk, the others lose out on the heal xp and tips they might have gotten without the bot standing there - if they're in the group, the group is increasing their xp while they're sleeping.
Reality? While the game mechanics exist to do it, and to use things like the /load command, those who use it are sad or detested by those who disagree with it, but they've got every right to do it.

Without taking a position in this discussion, I would just like to point out the flipside of this point: If the AFK entertainer IS grouped, the group is also benefitting from his/her presence in that the group receives more XP.
h2alias: /groupchat; 1. Save to your SWG folder./pause 3; 2. Go into game and type /load filename.txt; /pause 3; 3. Type /alias to display all the aliases available to you in that file.; /pause 3; 4. If you make changes during game you can /save <filename.txt> and it will be saved to your SWG folder. I recommend you always keep a backup of your alias file just in case something goes screwy!; /pause 3; 5. To use an alias in game , e.g. to use healbf type /healbf (very useful as it now frees up those toolbars!).; /pause 3; Note that if you amend the file you must use semi-colon (
between every command. Put the alias all on one line, and give it a name you would remember followed by a colon (
. The name of the alias is the first string, in this example its "healbf". aliaseg, Syntax: <aliasname>: /say Hello; :smile at %NT;
Bulbous, I realize that, but in most (though not all) cases, the afk'er is getting far more benefit from the group than the group is getting from them. It's a fairly moot case, though, because at least for musicians, most won't group when AFK, because anyone using /stopband commands would stop their macros, to my understanding.
As I said - until in game mechanics prevent it, they're doing nothing 'wrong' - that by no means necessitates that I agree with the practice. IMHO, those who do this are striving to be the 'first' to Master or particular dances or instruments - if you actually ENJOY being an entertainer, there would be no need to level AFK - what are these people going to do when they have mastered all skills? Set their macro to play while they're AFK for the enjoyment of others? I just don't see the point. But that's just me. ![]()
On macros ...
I use macros to plan and refine a performance. To coreograph my dances. Improvization is fine but it isn't the only path. When I make training macros, I watch em in 3rd person from different camera angles. I judge the spacing and timing of the moves, which ones transition smothly, which ones glitch. I study the timing of each flo for each dance.
My approach to it is just my approach. You each have yourown.SWG dancehas given us a new art form.
EH and socializing are nice additions ... but the dance rocks.
But the dance ... It's like paint - no rules - bust a move.

Yeah - songs too 8).
The dance macro can run in parallel to the song macro and I think it works. At least I am having fun with it. So far I have the Fat Wookie Blues, Fly Away (with apologies to Randy Newman for any IP infringement) and working on Wookie Woman and Da Chuba Hunt. Each has appropriate dance elements and mood settings.
Rock the house. And when I rock the House it literally rocks

PS One more comment on the use of dance macros generally. RL dancers spend hour after hour training and rehearsing. The result is a set of skills that have become reflexes. Meat macros.
