Thread: Dancing macro
I have a flourish macro that goes for maybe 2 1/2 minutes. I run it occasionally when I want to chat, otherwise I do flourishes individually.
I think the answer to the dancing /bandflourish matter is just to talk about it with your group, maybe? If people agree on it, and take turns issuing the command, it really shouldn't be a problem.
I run short macros for dancing. They are a very useful tool to assist you. (Though with the drift in Formal, I just manually run that one to control it.)
But since running macroskills trade windows at the moment, I often am needing my macros to run out quickly so that I can accept trades. (I love being tipped in clothes!) I also don't have to have all those macro messages running when resting or doing something while I'm not dancing.
Running long macros wouldbe annoying, to me anyway. Set up a /tell to yourself at the end of the macro, and you'll always know when it's time to press the button again.

Some of you are confused...
1. You used to be able to endlessly repeat a macro by calling the macro again at the end - that is NO longer possible. (not only entertainers were abusing it but surveyors as well).
2. The old beta bandflourishes DID take Action pool from ALL dancers...so nothing was 'free'.
3. Bandflourishes STILL take action pool from ALL dancers...so now if you have bandflourishes enabled you'll get your Action pool hit and get NO exp. (this is why most smart dancers do '/bandflourish off' at the beginning of a dance.)
4. Bandflourishes were nice because you got to see synchronized dance flourishes. Now you see none because no dancer short of Master Dance is going to give up exp just so you can have a nice performance. (maybe on rare occasions for a small performance yes, but normally for gaining levels..hell no.)
I heard that macros were finally limited to ten minutes. Any truth to this?
No we have a dancer in our cantina who has about a 90 minute macro.....do I agree with powerlevel dancing nope, it takes the fun out of dancing and building a patron base...but if all you want is the title and not have a character then I suppose that is the way to go although I think personally if you are not playing the game and gaining exp then you are CHEATING. I can understadn if in the middle of a macro and need to go potty that happens but to just set it and forget it(uh oh is that rotisierre cooker guy gonna get me for that) seems to take the fun of playing...they had this problem in UO and hopefully theyu will put a 5-10 minute time limit on macros.

You must be at your computer as your character advances if you are not and are cought there can be dire consequences. Everyone was warned about this over and over during the beta.
That may have been applicable in Beta 3, but I see no instructions not to do it in Beta 4.
i don't know of any way to you can loop an alias or macro infinitely; the alias recursion Guard is VERY good.
i even tried loading an alias, executing it, removing that alias, loading a different alias file that would then unload, and try to load back into the original. nope, didn't work, the Guard caught it.
the only problem i have with the Guard is not being able to repeat an alias that doesn't loop. for example, i have an alias that does /flo 1; /pause 25; /flo 2; /pause 25; /flo 3; /pause 25; /flo 4; /pause 25;. lets say i call it funkyfourstep. currently it is impossible to create another alias that calls /funkyfourstep more than once. now, i can get the same effect by just copy/pasting all the flourishes and pauses, but its really an eyesore to look at, and quite hard to edit if i wanna mix it up a bit for a different dance.
LordDarkk, instead of calling a macro over and over again, call an ALIAS over and over again. Add /alias <name> to the beginning of the macro you are trying to repeat, run it, and presto you have an alias setup. Then you can make a macro that calls <name> several times in a row. /mymusic; /pause 100; /mymusic; /pause 100, etc.
You cannot loop a macro, but you can make an alias (the external macro files you can use with the /load cmd) and have it run for like 9 hours, so that point is moot.
What exactly is the problem with macros/aliases anyhow? If it's just semantics on how the game should be played, well isn't that a personal preference, and left at the discretion of the actual person playing the game? If it's about being able to play the game while away from the keyboard, everyone has the option to do it, so theres no discrimination there. I get the feeling, the people against macros are the ones who are fortunate enough to be able play alot more than others, which if you ask me, is more unfair than macroing. Macroing even's the score in those cases imho.
My 2 cents...
well if there was a command that could break a macro, then id love to set one up that would run flourishes endlessly. i NEVER dance AFK, but i dance for literally hours upon hours on end, to the point my brain just fries out and i cant think anymore.
i have one macro at the moment that runs 2 sets of flourishes, but at times ive gotten so caught up talking with the band, or with a patron, that ill finally look up at my system messages to see "You have gained4 points of XP" or whatever it was, rather than my usual 20.
i want a macro that will do 2 or 3 sets, then summon itself back up, as well as a /stopmacro <name> command, so i can keep getting the XP and putting on a show, then stop it and sit down when i need to rest.
i hate having to worry about not getting xp, because even Dance 4 right now is a horrible amount of xp to get. 45k is **edit** hard to get when you only get around 20 points a tick at max. id rather keep my eye on the chat with patrons and the band, as well as watch my action pool so i can break the macro and sit as soon as it runs out.
im all for GMs watching for unattended macroing, and dealing with it appropriatly, as that would perfectly disrupt the "sleepdancers".
