Thread: Flesh wraps NOT needed...

I'm in total agreement with what you're saying Velvet. I'm going to go out on a limb, though, and theorize that TailorElek's concern was not the kids playing the game but his own kids looking over his shoulder as HE plays the game. "Daddy, what's that lady wearing?" His answer - "Not much!" and it bothered him some.

I could be wrong, of course, but that's what I took from it.

I think he over-reacted,but it's a good point to bring up. A significant percentage of the profession plays with the attitude "The more skin, the better!". These folks start out by ditching their newbie clothes and playing in their underwear, then move on to the most revealing clothes they can find as soon as they can find them and afford them. They then wear these clothes all the time, on the theory that it gets the most attention and hence the most tips.

Elek could have been more diplomatic but his point is valid - There are customers out there who prefer some things left to the imagination. We've had plenty of threads here about how lame underwear dancers are. Is it any less lame to wear a revealing suit 24/7 as your only costume just because it lets you look more like you're really "nude"?

I love the fleshwrap. I think it's a great bit of clothing design and when matched well to the skintones and physique of the dancer, it looks snazzy. As I pointed out previously, it's actually no more revealing than most swimsuits. Even so, I'm finding myself getting more and more jaded to the flood of them that are suddenly hitting Bria as the first master tailors are appearing. I'm finding that the reason I liked them so much in beta is that they were RARE. It was "exotic" for lack of a better word. Now, it's becoming increasingly commonplace.

Adara and some of the others have the right idea by using it as just one piece of their dancing "arsenal". When you over-use something, it loses it's appeal. Best to keep it as a showcase item instead of the main attraction, IMO.

In any case, a dancer's job is to entertain with her DANCE, not solely with her outfit. The outfit (whether ball gown, fleshwrap, or shorts/jacket) is there to complement and accent the dance. If your outfit IS the attraction (which is what I think TailorElek was objecting to, despite having pushed some hot buttons doing it) then you're not much of an "entertainer".

*heh* Interesting story, Sinda. I don't see that you did anything to be mortified over, but maybe that's the male psyche instead the female. I'd have probably laughed and done some questioning to find out how the kid liked the game.

Kids are curious about games like this and most cantinas have very little activity that really needs to be hidden from them. Swearing? They've heard it. Overt sex? Despite the complaints, it's not the norm. Most cantinas would be reasonably safe to bring a kid to, and I'll wager that they had the place scouted out beforehand as to what was going on inside. Conversations from inside can be easily heard outside. You weren't doing anything untoward and the mother took steps to make sure that you didn't accidentally start anything untoward. No harm, no foul.

Heck, at age eight, I'd imagine most "prurient" aspects of the cantina would fly right past him and he'd be most interested in the musicians anyway.

As others have posted, you can't be responsible for other folk's kids. If they let a pre-teen (or a teen for that matter) into the game on his own then it's not your fault if he gets more than they bargained for. Just keep in mind when deciding where to take things - Just as that beautiful swimsuit model in the fleshwrap might actually be a beer-guzzling trucker with a beard named Steve, that dashing smuggler in the rugged jacket might actually be a 10-year-old tee-ball player named Ricky. Number one rule is that nobody is what they seem. Act accordingly.

Agreed, Subcriminal.

Maybe we can move past the whole "It's not my job to censor myself to protect your kids" thing. It's really peripheral to the topic of clothing and how to best utilize them. I suspect that TailorElek would haveposted the same evenif his kids weren't watching. That was just a handy way to lend weight to his argument.

Let's try a different tack:

SWG dance costumes (or women's clothing in general) are designed with a certain "sex appeal". At least two pieces have the word "revealing" in the nameand mostof them "uncover" various portions of the wearer's anatomy.

Given this, how do you use clothing in your dance routines? Do you change randomly or do you have a clothing routine that goes with your dance routine? Do you attempt to judge the tastes of your audience? If so, how do you decide who to accomodate? How do you decide when to wear something revealing, something elegant, or something casual? If you don't bother, if you just wear one thing and don't worry about it, have you considered putting a bit more work into your presentation?

Wear ONE thing? *gasp* Who does that?

I change my outfit almost every time I take a break. Sometimes I change it sooner, if I'm changing dances.

Generally, I have many articles of clothing, each of which is set into one of two categories- formal or casual. Formal clothing (pleated skirts, formal shirts, gowns) is worn when I'm dancing formal or flowing dances, like, well, Formal. Or Rhythmic. Casual clothing (jackets, shortsleeve shirts, and yes, bustiers) gets worn when dancing casual dances, like Footloose. When I take a break to rest, I'll switch things around within category until I find a combination I like. Then, if I need to, I'll image design my hair, lip, and eyeshadow colors to either compliment or contrast my chosen outfit. Then I get back out there!

Variety is the spice of life, so spice things up!

Umm.... Ok so you have small children. You think they wont see anything more revealing when you are at a pool or beach irl? Please, I hate those excuses for things being inappropriate in game. If you dont want your kids to see it, DONT LET THEM PLAY

Bleh. As for tipping. I dont ask for tips anyways. They are always welcome, but I dont ask. Also I dont wear the fleshwrap because I want to turn the guys on. I wear it because I think it looks cute.

No sympathy for whiners!

On some bodies the leotard polygons aren't positioned right and the flesh on the body of the model actually protrudes through the leotard (esp in the area around the female's gazongas). Some dancers feel embarassed if the leotard doesn't cover the naughty bits correctly, even if it's just a bugged poly mesh placement. The problem isn't all that obvious but I think it's more apparent on large-busted ladies.

I wear mine anyway, I have a Lekku headdress that actually does decent job covering up where these problem areas (unless you look real close) because it drapes my lekku over the problem area.

As far as costume variety, I don't have many since a lot of my money has been going into supplies for crafing. I'm grinding my way up to novice tailor and I need a lot of raw materials.

I have two outfits that I can mix and match, hopefully more in the near future. In my case the skimpy clothing does much more than to catch attention, they actually give me a good boost to my healing ability. I bought a +3 mind-wound healing skill enhancer not too long ago and am looking for more. All of my good dancing clothing can hold up to 4 skill enhancers. I'm presently looking for more enhancers but can't seem to find them easily on the market. Either way, even the skimpiest outfit can hold a more noble purpose.

I LOVE my fleshwrap. It was a gift from a guild mate, very expensive, and matches my eyes perfectly! However, if I knew how to get one of those gorgeous red velvet and lace gowns I see the NPC entertainers wear, I would dance in that too. Some dance forms just "fit" a revealing costume more. I hate waching people dance in their tighty-whitey underwear - looks so sloppy and ala Risky Bussiness to me. I also love that transparent, flare-legged cat-suit that I have seen many entertainers wear. I'd love one of those too, but I am just starting out and am not making quite enough money dancing yet to afford a whole new wardrobe.\

If you see me dancing and don't like whatI am wearing, give me something equally beautiful, glamorous, and flattering to my features, and I might change....butby the sounds of your attitude, I would rather not see you in any cantina where I am performing at all.

I can bet that when you get Master Tailor you will have no aversion to SELLING the Flesh Wrap as it is one of the highest items you can make. How very hypocrytical. Thank god you aren't on my server not a singeld dancer would bother coming to you for your attitude towards art and the human body. These are AVATARS not real life humans.

AyaPRX : The red gown the entertainers wear is the intricate dress. You can actually find them on the baazar (on starsider anyway) and in a whole lot of different colors. I have two.

Well Tailor if you really want to be on the high moral ground here then if you aren't going to tip, then please don't benefit from our skills by watching. Don't ya just love it when someone comes in and gripes about what you're wearing, won't tip, but WILL benefit themselves at your expense? Give it a rest.

Sorry, there's one thing in this thread that I read and got me really concerned- the exotic leotard is bugged?? That's my favorite piece of clothing! What's bugged about it?

Worried,

One of the most important things for a parent is to raise their children correctly.

To teach them the difference between right and wrong. To teach them that lying is wrong. That breaking promises is wrong.

Parents:

You accepted an agreement stating you have to be 18 or older to play the game!!!!

You accept that agreement EVERY TIME you play!!!!

How can a parent repeatedly lie like that and then claim that other people need to adjust their playstyles to avoid harming their precious?

Let me guess, these parents also take their kids to bars and demand that the other patrons not use profanity? Maybe afterwards they take their kids to strip clubs and demand that the strippers keep their clothes on?

If your hypocrisy is going to endanger your child's emotional development, you are to blame! Stop trying to pass the buck for your own irresponsibility.
