oke, they shouldn't strap everyone back to novice. and about those holocrons. only uber idiots believe that they'll get their force slot just by getting master entertainer etc... I mean you REALLY HAVE TO BE a retarted morron to believe that. I mean those guys think that when they get master entainer or dancer, that they'll get an e mail from the dev. saying " congratulations, you"re now a jedi". I've said this on an other topic to. only dumb asses believe that. so go ahead, waste your time and money being afk all the time. they'll will only get screwed anyway.

and the people that just go for entertainer or any other prof. because a holocron said so. while they have NO RESPECT for the prof. well those people don't even deserve to get their force slot. because they are just arrogant pricks.

A lot of people seem to think that if they can just do this one more thing (master what the holocron tells them) they will be a Jedi.

My personal feeling is that while this may be one step on the needed journey, it's not the only step and it's not the last one. I wonder how these people will react when they hit Master Dancer (Musician, etc), and... nothing happens. Are they going to keep dancing?

Oh, and if they don't, and then surrender the profession (or keep it but don't use it), what does that mean for their force slot? Does anyone know? (No.) From a certain perspective... this should be interesting to watch. And probably really funny.

I live in sweden and when I get online there's not alot of people in the cantina, so if I find an AFK dancer to help me heal my wounds I don't give a crap if they are AFK or not. I still tip them because they provide a service few others do when I am online.

I can understand it's quite annoying when zombie dancers take up the dancefloor but there's nothing anyone can do about it. People have to accept it or move to another cantina, AFKers pay $15 just like everyone else to play the game so AFK or not is pretty much up to the player to decide.

Hi,

I don't mind AFKers either. If they get on my nerves, I leave and do other things.

I usually have some smalltalk with my customers. We discuss about anything we want being careful about each other's feelings. I hear various rumors and learn few things. You would be surprised what you can learn in one sitting at a cantina.

The advent of AFKing communities, I moved out of Coronetto roam the Rims. There I get to meet various travelers who rely on me to soothe their soul and their loneliness far away from anything resemblingtheurbanhabitat. (Not to mention these men and women are more interesting to talk to compared to the city-folks.)

Why should *I*, who am at the keyboard, interacting with people, having fun and looking as good as I can in a sea of macro-zombies need to move to accomodate them? *I* am the one doing the work to look good, they're sleeping or otherwise occupied... they are sitting their with their stupid begging spam asking for tips or heals and wasting space that *I* could use to try and make the droid-dance look semi-good (flourish like crazy... and pray for healers)...

Yes, the AFK-macrotainers annoy me, they annoy me ALOT. If you cannot be bothered to be at the keyboard, then don't clutter up center stage and crowd out those of us who care enough to try and *master* the profession in truth and not just in skill boxes.

I'm not exactly Sigrun, but I suppose I can chime in 2cr worth...

Why should your $15 a month give you any greater right to tell them how to spend their $15 a month, just because you choose to be at the keys for a portion of the time your character is in the game? Why should they have to move to accomodate you? The questions cut both ways.

Do you log out when you have to make a potty run? When you go grab lunch? Do you stop entertaining and go to an out-of-the-way place in the cantina so you're not bothering at-keys entertainers when you do those things?

If not, aren't youpart of the problem as well?

Or would you also like to set a time limit on AFK? Like just long enough for you to eat supper... which might not be long enough for Sultrina (random name I saw here) eat supper? What's fair? Who's to be the judge?

Well, now isn't that a good question? Who's to be the judge?

Seems to me, SOE wrote the game. SOE wrote the terms of service for the game. SOE sets all the rules. It stands to reason that SOE gets to be the judge over what happens in their game, right?

What does SOE have to say about AFK entertainer macros? This is an honest question that I don't know the answer to. Can anyone provide relevant quotes direct from SOE about their official stance on AFK entertainment?

Now there is another judge.Lots of them actually... you and me and everyone else subscribing to this game. But you know what? We don't get to be judge for the whole game. We only get to be judge for our own personal involvement in it. Because that's the only piece we pay for - our own little piece of it.

If we judge what we see in the game as desirable, we'll continue playing and paying. And if we judge it to be undesirable, I would think we'd stop playing and paying.

Anyway, the questions above about direct SOEquotes I think have relevance. Maybe when I have more time I'll try to look something up.

I don't log out for bathroom breaks but I do have my toon walk over to an empty chair and sit down, and I warn the rest of the group I am going AFK for a few. when I grab lunch or any other meal, yes, definitely I log out. Why would I need to stay logged in when I am not playing the game?

My $15 may not be worth more than an AFKers but it ought not to be worth less than theirs either. If what they are doing makes it impossible for me to do what I want to do, aren't they basically being given precedence? That's the advice everyone has, "Don't like AFK, go somewhere else." That means I am being forced out of a venue (and, since AFKers are springing up everywhere, potentially ALL public venues) in favor of AFKers.

No, I don't think I am entitled to MORE than they are for $15, but I don't think I should get LESS. You say, "Let them play the game the way they want." (ie. AFK). Well how about letting ME play the game the way I want? (i.e. without a sea of zombies cluttering up the dance floor).

See, this is a multiplayer game. Anything you do has an effect on one or more other people. If they want to AFK over in a way that does not interfere with my game-play, then fine. But they don't do that. Meaning I now have to alter MY preferred game play method, because of THEM. So now my $15 counts for less than theirs.

So yeah, it cuts both ways. I shouldn't get to deprive them of their "fun" (if you can call AFKing that). Why should they get to deprive me of mine?

When I have to put up with people in the middle of the dance floor afk and shouting for tips and crap like that, and *I* have to reposition myself to the side of the cantina then they are interfering with *my* (and other at keyboard entertainers) gameplay.

As for bio-breaks and snack runs, I sit myself in an empty chair, usually in one of the side rooms and tell the group that I am going afk for a couple of minutes and the reason. For lunch or dinner, I also log off, or disband myself from the group and sit in one of the room on the side.

What would be fair is to disable the ability to turn off the auto afk and then boot them after about 10 min no matter if they are doing something or not, this will make the macrotainers dwindle away or actually spend time at the keyboard.

So yeah, I think that if they interfere with my fun and gameplay then I have a right to complain about it and to voice my (and alot of other entertainers) opinion.

... but it's OK for them to stand in the middle of the dance floor and do that if they're watching the monitor? What's the difference? Just the (AFK) over their head, right? Why do those 5 characters incite so much more violent a reaction? They're behaving just as badly, aren't they?

Well, Sigrun, if they're at the keyboard you can ask them to move. I've done this several times when people run on top of me to dance. You'd be surprised, most people actually are nice and will politely move. When someone has been afk for a few hours and have migrated all over the place, you can't ask them to move. It's frustrating when you have a large group of people giving a performance to have someone messing things up in the middle. Anyway, I think this has been beaten to death. Some don't like afk some do, get over it. Accept and respect others opinions.

Exactly, Mihnea. I do. I respect other's opinions that they dislike AFK. Heck, I dislike AFK... for the most part. But I also respect the opinions of the AFK crowd, provided they do it with some reasonable level of etiquette.

Should those who are completely intolerant of any AFK not also heed your sage advice?

I don't know about everyone else, but it's not ANY AFK that bothers me. It's the rude, obnoxious, in-your-face ones that bother me. The ones who do it discreetly, I can't ever know about, because, just that, they are being discreet. It's the obnoxious ones I have to see and deal with. Those are the ones I gripe about.

I don't think dancers have a bad rap on Lowca. We have our share of AFKers, sure, but on any given evening a pretty good proportion of thedancersin Anchorhead or Theed (where I typically dance) are at their keyboards and talking to folks. And in any case, Idon't think the AFK "problem" is really much of a problem, as far as the attitudes of the non-entertainers go. Most of them really don't care whether the dancer who heals them is at the keyboard or not, although most I run into are also surprised and ready to enjoy themselves when they run into a dancer who obviously isn't AFK. Those who actively prefer AFK entertainers are probably so anti-roleplay that they're not worth worrying about anyway. The AFK problem is much more of a concern to entertainers, in my experience.

One thing we've done on Lowcato raise the profile of entertainers is to start a PA that's mostly about entertaining--BABE. It was founded by a group of master dancers and entertainers (and me, their clothes pusher, er, fashion consultant) and we do all sorts of things--provide entertainment at parties (we did a Halloween party and a bachelor's party last weekend), tour on weekend afternoons, hold a weekly party at our PA house. We do synchronized dance routines, wear uniforms much of the time, etc., etc. We're widely known on the server and generally pretty well thought of. In an informal survey on the Lowca board, a lot of folks rated us in the top three PAs on the server, largely because we have a reputation as a bunch of fun people who play the game in an unusual way and add interest to the community.

So anyway, I don't think dancers really have a bad rap in every instance, and if they do, it's in the power of the dancers to change it if they band together and work a bit at it.
