Thread: *very* concerned over group size
Smaller group size was definitely not instituted inconsideration for our wellbeing. But we can certainly use it to our advantage. Frankly, it would be nice to be in a group and hear the words, "Sorry, but I don't group with people going afk" and "I'm dropping group to go afk now", once again.

I mean...this is twofold. First of all, the live entertainers will be much more likely, in a small group of 8, to stick to their guns and not allow afk'ers in there. I mean, quitefrankly, it'll be very easy to simply say that your group has no room or you're saving space for live players. And, sure, l33t dancers and musicians will flame you. But, who cares, you'll never have to deal with them. Put 'em on /ignore. You won't need them anymore if you are levelling. It will be harder for the afk'ers to find a group to level with for the dancing and musician xp. Similarly, they won't get much healing xp because the live group is the only one that will be watched.
Yeah, it won't get rid of them, and there are workarounds. But, I think in a non-intended way, ATK dancers who are levelling or just dancing for the fun of it will be at an advantage here.

I agree Esh. There's actually an upside to this. LOL
I look at it this way. If the group size stays at 8, I think live players will have an advantage. And, if the devs realize this and decide, in their support of afk, to increase the group size, we win. hahaha. Brilliant!
And, of course, I had no delusions that group size was decreased for us. Hell hasn't frozen over yet.

That would be cool too. I just wasn't thinking of the possibilities until Trellgar's post made it click in my head. I'm kind of liking the idea of the smaller group size now. Because whether it stays small or we can make them bigger in the future, I'm now seeing a win/win situation here.

Being involved in CCs so much, Iwholeheartedly agreethat we certainly need some type of consideration for group size in noncom situations. However, there has to be a stipulation coded into it that the group leader must remain live or we are back to square one again with bots and macrotainers.
I'm thinking this might make a good performance skill. No xp gain for performance group members..but only the one calling a /bandflo gets the xp for it anyway so it isn't like we'd be losing anything with that stipulation.

Perhaps (And this is prolly just hopeing too much) they will scale the Xp bonus so that a group of 8 people will give the same xp bounses as a group of 20 perforemer did pre CU.
If say for example that pre CU the xp bonus for a full group was 100% increase for 20 People thats 5% xp increase per person..after the CU it would be a 12.5% xp incease per person...
the spots will be in demand...
if you are leader of a group and its short one or two, as stated can turn away those
who are known to join then afk... you know who they are, you live in the cantina right?
What if you inherit a full group, then find two live people walk in, they want a group, you
have three afk spots... gee... if you boot them, what will they do, report you for making
room for atk performers? (I'd love to see the response on that one)
The ATK groups will get watched more, guaranteed...why? Easy, we know who you are, we know you are
always there, so any group YOU are in, we will watch, means the mostly afk groups get less and less
xp over time... when you walk in, other entertainers know you are popular, liked etc, they want YOU
in their group, to benefit from YOUR clientelle. In a 20 person group, I'll bet the afk people
benefit far more from you than you from them.
Now I hear cries of what about the poor newbies.. well... we all start somewhere. Most of you
can likely peg from day one who will be afk all the time, who is a grinder and who truly loves
their profession. Guess who will get invited into the 8 person groups more often...gee, the newb
who loves the profession, who wins... not the afk'er.
Sure, for the combat professions an 8 person group is less firepower etc... but for entertainers...
I truly think that this was not thought out with you in mind, but it can work a million times
better to hurt the afk bots than anything they could have brought in on purpose.
but then, what do I know? lol, I am just a poor rifleman with lots of dancer friends

Probably if you froze it and glazed it, you could.

Ewww, Drygo!!
Ravanne_Esi wrote:Give it up. you can't polish a turd. This stinks and is a terrible thing for bands and RP events. There is almost no reason for entertainers anymore let alone any reason for groups of them other than for RP and events, with the elimination of mind wounds, reduction in BF accumulation and even a novice entertainer being able to give the same level buff as a triple master the only thing left to us is RP and events and they make even that almost impossible.Message Edited by Ravanne_Esi on 04-17-2005 06:46 PM
You are right, you cant polish one..
But I am truly tired of people picking them up to throw. If I quit this game, it wont be because the "devs dont listen to me"
or "I hate the EQ2 interface" or anything else. I am an adult, I know the world is not fair, I know that it does not revolve
around me, I am a parent, and I know that no matter how much whining, bitching and complaining my kid does, he WILL clean his
room. On occasion life sucks, and you either buck up and stop your whining so you can do the things you want, or you belly up
to the bar and pay the piper.
If I leave its because I cant stand the people I play with, but then, after the cu, maybe the new crop after all the tantrums and
door slammers leaves, will realize that hey, its a game... and you dont HAVE to pay, no one forces you, unlike my son who has
no choice in the matter, because hey, I AM god, and control the xbox.
You want SOE to listen, be adult, talk with your money. I for one have spent time on TC, did a rifleman to see how bad off I
will be, then did a dancer/tk, a little slower for taking things down, but the dancing didnt change. The reason to be there
didnt change. People came in I... *GASP* talked to them. Full inspiration buff was 1.5 minutes as single master no enhancements,
average time people stayed to chat, about 1/2 hour.
Before you get your shirt all in a knot thinking oh woe is me, how bad this is for us, think on this. Entertainer has NEVER
been a big money profession, what about the docs whose entire and total REASON for being, IE the buffs, is gone. Docs have
never been a social class, any medic can treat wounds, always been able to. Entertainer is still a social class... we still have
a job to do. you want to feel usless? your call, but I would grind doc, put the cash out on resources, sell a few good price
buffs then wait for the cu to tell you that you are essentially retired.no more big money...none, zero...
If the sky is falling, I would rather watch it with an idea of promise, than run around saying it is coming down in a panic. But,
feel free to whine and complain still, I know my son always tries it, never gets him anywhere... but maybe you'll get lucky.
