I'm still trying to stay upbeat, but I have to wonder - do the devs even play this game? /boggle

But you still can only have 8 people in your group, just the owner can invite 30 people on the ship, but 22 of them are not grouped with the owner then.

It actually stands for Portalized OBject, a term used primarily on the JtL beta boards by the devs. I like party on board though!

From the HOC chat...

"Brannoc - *JavelinCatcher* CU Question: Currently the maximum number of players allowed in a group is 8 on TC-EP3 instead of 20 like we have on Live. Is this intended? If so, why?

Keldarin - We changed the group size to 8 to allow better balancing of the game. We can craft a more fun and tactical experience when we have a reasonable limit to the size of player groups."

Looks like 8-person groups is intended and going to stay.

Yeah, because shafting 2 band members from playing with the rest of the band will be a much more fun experience. Reducing the number of instruments that are playable ina band from 10 to 8 will add a LOT of fun to our game. /rolleyes

I think this is total junk. They made up some fix for those who wish to go up in a POB ship. The "group" needs to be in the same room or nearby, or something. They need to apply this to cantinas. If not for the fact that they're screwing Musicians out of having a full band (why should 2 instruments have to "pretend" to be part of the band?), for the fact that Dancers in a group of 20 all being synchronized is about the coolest thing to see in this game. If that gets dropped to 8 dancers, then they just **edit**ed up a great experience in SWG.

I don't want agroup size nerf from 20 to 8, I want a *gasp* upgrade to a 30 person band or entertainment group. Imagine MORE dancers synch'd up...more band choices, with the same instrument being played in different flourishes to blend together and layer the music...could be very very cool to see and hear.

Make it so, Esh!!!!

Please?

I totally agree, let the combats have their 8 person, richer content groups, give ents larger groups. Just the fact one can not have a full band alone seems justification enough for me. Give ents the ability to have 30 per group, sounds like a good number to me.

Great, not only my combat characters get screwed up, but my entertainer too. This CU is looking worse by the day. I like SWG, I want to keep playing the game I've enjoyed for the last year and a half.

For large cantina parties you can still try to handle things with a chat channel (just like those old huge raids on DAoC, groups are limited to 8 back there too...), but that would be of no help for /bandflos and such :/
Would be nice if they created an EntertainerGroup thingie or something, with none of the combat advantages (no group lvl, no share of _combat_ xp nor _combat_ mission rewards) but enabling the entertainer to do their work. This limitation is crap for performers as much for the grind itself as for events.

I've posted that on another forum already:
I hate SWG chatchannels. They're terrible. I left it, I destroyed it, i deleted all tabs, I did everything i could think of, and it was back 5 minutes later! EVERY time! I simply could not get rid of it for 3 days or longer.

Joining another chatgroup every time i enter a cantina? *shudders in fear*

I hate that bug too, I wish it would stop popping up. Anyway, I get around it by joining the channels I want directly from the modify window to my main "chat" tab now, then it doesn't add a new tab.

Just a thought on group size...

Maybe this is the Devs attempt to deal with the entertainer issues with afkers.

I mean think about it, if you and one other person are atk and the rest afk (common at some times

of the day) in an 8 person group that means that **25%** of the group is ATK!!! In a 20 person

group that same team would result in only 10% ATK. The statistics say thats a 15% bonus in

ATK play!

Okay, then again, maybe not... but you know how some people think lol...

Hehe...looking on the brightside, which is hard to do these days, you may be right. Well, actually, you are right about the outcome, but it was probably not the intention of the devs.

I do think that when push comes to shove, except for the bot situation, a random person coming into the Cantina will start watching if someone addresses them. And, the group that has the last 8 live entertainers on the server will get all of the experience, and the afk'ers won't.

I mean...this is twofold. First of all, the live entertainers will be much more likely, in a small group of 8, to stick to their guns and not allow afk'ers in there. I mean, quitefrankly, it'll be very easy to simply say that your group has no room or you're saving space for live players. And, sure, l33t dancers and musicians will flame you. But, who cares, you'll never have to deal with them. Put 'em on /ignore. You won't need them anymore if you are levelling. It will be harder for the afk'ers to find a group to level with for the dancing and musician xp. Similarly, they won't get much healing xp because the live group is the only one that will be watched.

Yeah, it won't get rid of them, and there are workarounds. But, I think in a non-intended way, ATK dancers who are levelling or just dancing for the fun of it will be at an advantage here.
