Dancer Archive
Thread: Okay folks, feedback time for you all on this list here.
The list looks pretty good to me, and of course there is the AFK thing.
While I like the collision detection to keep us from dancing inside of tables, I can see how colliding with another player making us stop can get annoying. (Colliding with another DANCER would keep the newbie dancers from dancing right on top of me all the time. ...they walk over, stand where I am- letterally on top of me, then start dancing, it annoys the heck out of me.) But Colliding with another player would be frusterating, especially in places without stages, or stages with only one entrance.
This being that players tend to run all over the place, and through people- since it's really hard to fine tune where you are walking without overcorrection. Then their pets trample all over you too. If I had to stop dancing every time someone ran through the Cantina on Lock to go see Han, or the tavern in Anchorhead while people duel in the building, then I'd be annoyed. It would stop me in the middle of a buff and everything.
Otherwise, it's fine. It'sa good idea, I can just see how it can be a pain.
I love the Deny service additions. Usually I don't use it but it makes sense to give it some more options since we have it.

It is a good list. Thank you for your efforts on our behalf.
However, I would like to see additional rewards for dancers who are at the keyboard be in the top five.
The developers have already implemented pop-ups for resource samplers, they can reuse that code with (hopefully) only a little effort.
This will not stop AFK macro dancers (just like the resource sampling pop-ups do not stop AFK macro samplers) but it will provide an additional incentive for dancers to be at the keyboard, and an additonal reward for dancers who already are regularly at the keyboard.
I realize that there is a downside to this in that it will disrupt timing for some people.
Well I for one will never tire of the AFK argument.
I can see the point AFK'rs make, and if they can gain xp at home or in a camp I have no real problem with that.
I just dont see how it's right to join a big group, go AFK and sleep while earning XP. Certainly other players benefit, but no way should an AFK'er be tipable, and I think they should auto-eject from groups too.
Frankly, I cant express my anti-AFK feeling stronglyenough. It's just very sad it exists as an option at all.
As to the 'distant' planets, let players contract services. I'm honestly sick of going to expensive to travel to planets only to find an AFK musician/dancer there all night. Customers watch/listen to them so they feel no obligation to pay me any mind at all....it's just depressing..
That said, Raven has my full support.

and raven, i LOVE LOVE LOVE your idea about granting faction points for dancing in faction locations/for your faction members. my only caveat is, how do we prevent afkers from exploiting this?
Ooh, a good point. There have to be safeguards against AFK dancers getting faction points.
Imagine the new Imperial. He picks up Novice Entertainer and AFK dances. He gets enough faction points to buy an AT-ST.
It's one thing for people to sneer at AFK Dancers for getting free XP. But that XP only helps you advance in the class, which only gives extra healing and more mind buffs. Aside from that, there is no other in-game benefit. But yeah, imagine an AFKer using those skills to work his way to some faction perks. "I earned this stormtrooper armor just by dancing."
Before faction points can be implemented, work will likely need to be done to make those missions more interactive.
I don' t like the stop dancing idea... it would be nice to not dance through a table but if I stopped dancing when someone ran into me it would really be annoying. Extremly annoying. I know there are people that would run into you just to stop you from dancing.
As for afk I agree it's not a top 5 issue. I still make enough money. I still get xp.(although I am having trouble right now getting that last 200k healing xp and that is mainly because people kick afkers out of the group so when someone watches them to get healed... well the rest of the "group" then loses out) Sure some people really really really hate AFKing. I don't really really hate it. It can be annoying at times. But shoot... someone shows up I say hi they come on over and watch/tip me. It tends to work most of the time. ![]()
I really like the list, and would REALLY like to see some faction perks and some better ways to track mind buffing. Any Doctor that buffs a person knows immediately what amount of enhancement a person got and it doesn't take telling someone to "umm, watch me for the next uhhh, 10 minutes I think, and then ummm I think it will be long enough." And then I shouldn't have to pray that it lasts for 2 hours or they die before the buff falls off in half an hour.
Thirdly, I would love to be able to track denial of service. I don't use it much, but when I do, I would like there to be an option to do faction/groups/etc.
As for AFK entertainers, I could care less. Other than cluttering up the landscape, the tip beggers and naked-in-your-face losers bother me much more. An AFK entertainer has never taken anything from me and never will.

Also, I'm not so sure if the new player cantinas will put an end to AFK taining, it might in player cities but you'd still need to have always someone in or near the player cantinas / theatres who has ban rights or can militia kick them out from these buildings ? What if the AFK tainer is a resident of the player city ? I guess we will just have to see.
Okay.. its Monday and I'm back to the boards and got a chance to read all your replies. So, let me say a few things about the list and your feelings. As I expected there are several of you that want AFK macroing on the top 5 of the list, and many that don't want it on the list period.. thats fine, let me state one thing first off. I will never take AFK macroing off the list until its not longer a big issue, which I still think it is.
Also, there's good reason I've put it where at on the list. Its an important issue I feel, but I think you guys are wrong that Player Cities won't solve anything. I've been spending the last week or two in player cities on T.C. I have my own Theater outside Theed if you want to stop by sometime in New Unity. ![]()
Anyway, I'll get to the point. I don't think many of you understand the way player cities are going to affect this game. There will be no reason at all to be spending time in one of the old NPC cities.. zilch, zero, NONE. And if you insist on staying in one then thats just plain ignorant. Once the player cities are fully developed on your server, and by fully developed I mean upgraded with all the neat things they can get, there is nothing you can't have in a player city you can't get in an NPC one. Not only that, player cities will really be able to have more.
Not only that, but their easy to get to, you can take a shuttle from anywhere right to them once they have their own shuttle port! Even from another planet once they get the starport feature upgrade. I don't think you understand what this is going to mean to the game. It may take a little while but players are going to start moving out of the NPC cities almost completely for the most part. If your an entertainer and your in and NPC city then your a fool, plain and simple. (unless you have a good RP reason of course) But RP reasons aside theres no good reason to be in one.
Need reasons to head to the player city Cantina's? You want advantages over the current NPC city ones? Easy, let me give you a list. Big fat numero uno. The end to harrassement. Yeah, thats right, you can ban peoples buts from the Player cantina's and from the player cities entirely that are causing trouble and even kill them flat out. A feature that will be used frequently in any decently run player town.
Oh, you say player run cantina's in houses can do that now so whats the big deal? How about the fact you can't take a shuttle to the players house, how about the fact theres no trainers around the players house, how about the fact thats theres no mission terminals around the players house and that some player towns will have bonuses to healing? The fact is player cities will draw loads more people then a player run cantina does now.
But you need big groups to get exp fast right? Yeah, and player cities are going to make it faster then ever in most cases. I know for a fact that almost every server has at least one big entertainer PA, and most of them are going to be starting their own city. A city dedicated to entertaining... can we say any smart person trying to get exp will be flocking to these? Don't like Macrotainers? Well think about it, how many of these cities do you think are going to support AFK entertainers?
If you don't like AFK tainers, find a city that doesn't allow them and I'm sure theres going to be other like minded entertainers heading there as well. Now I could be wrong and maybe player cities won't have the effect I think they will, but given enough time for players to adjust to it, I really believe they will. This is why I dropped AFK entertaining off my top 5 list.
So please everyone, bare with me on this one. I don't like them personally either but I think they may stop being such a big issue soon. I think we should at least wait and see how things change and how their affected, the major problems with them might just work themselves out for us. That being said I still have it on my list asan issue and the Devs are still going to be doing something about them eventually because they don't like the AFKtainers either. So really why put that so high on our list when we could be pushing other things that can help us all?
Anyway, thats my feelings on the subject and explanation as to why I did the list the way I did. It was a hard decision to put it on top 5 or not.. so many other issues you people feel are important. In the end I let it slide to number 6 for now. So after reading all this jabbering I just posted you still want me to put AFKtaining on the top 5 list let me know. Understand however that there would have to be a big enough request for me to do something about it with a much smaller number against it for me to make the change.
Bleh, a few spelling mistakes on my last post, sorry about that, its Monday and I forgot to check it. ![]()
Since that last post was almost entirely about Player City's and AFK tainers I decided to put the rest of my responses into another post.
As far as the collision thing with other players. Yeah, definitely can see the problem but figured I'd see what you all thought. Another interesting point in this idea however comes with the player city Cantina's. The harassement issue shouldn't exist there and you won't have people watching you crowding your space like you do now. Especially not with pets. So what do you all think considering that?
On the faction point thing. Hey don't give me credit for thinking of this stuff. 95% of all the issues and ideas on these threads comes from you people. So thanks yourselves and each other for the great ideas, not me!
Also on the faction point thing, yeah, definitely see the point that needs to be a way to make it AFK proof.
Know I'm missing something... let me go back and look.
If the only reason you dropped it to #6 was because of player cities, you're doing us a disservice. If you dropped it to #6 because enough people have given you pause by arguing for it, fine. If it's #6 because not enough people list it in their top five problems, that's ok. But I'm sorry, test server is a unique environment, and you cannot judge the effect on the live servers until it goes there. Even if you could, until the solution has been proven to work to the community's satisfaction, it's irresponsible to remove it from the top five. It gives the wrong message to the developers, who may suddenly think that the dancer community doesn't view that as a real issue anymore, so why work on it?
Maybe player cities are the solution. I really hope you're right and the next time we put together a top five list AFK'ing is not even close. Maybe the devs see it as the solution and decide to wait and see how player cities affect it, which is fine. But at least they'd know that we still consider it a top priority.
You're our correspondent. You're our voice to the developers. Please speak for us.

Of course I'm still open to moving it back up, its all up to you people really. I just do the best I can with the feedback and information you all give to me. Sometimes I have to make judgement calls when things are close or not entirely clear but hopefully you all have faith in me that I'll make the best one and hopefully I won't let you down. ![]()
