Thread: A Reason to Perform, Not to Buff

jedi whined and now they got their way.
You claim "jedi whined"
I look at it this way. The PLAYERS stated what they wished. I have had many many tells today saying how happy they are. Many were asking me if I would be willing to travel to their town (crafting place) once this is in game. Yes I will. and I will also stick around to see how their sabor turns out. THen talk for awhile entertain and just might make a few more friends in the process..
. once again, we've been turned into buff dispensing machines to everyone and they are going to hate us for it.
I do not know how you are turned into anything let alone how one added profession changes anything, I assume you must mean ALL the new buffs are doing this to you. Also you do not need to ever buff if you so wish.. I also disagree anyone will hate anyone unless someone shows a great hatred of other players (jedi) then yes they may just treat these entertainers the same as they are treated.
They are going to hate us because they won't be able to do anything without them and they will be forced to interact with us for them. I was enjoying being a dancer and musician, and I loved the passiveness of the Inspiration buff. I didn't have to deal with rude or obnoxious people everyday, making my ingame time fun.
That is gone now, no longer will i be able to dance or play music freely in a public location without someone demanding me to buff them. Not asking, demanding. How does that make it fun for me? It doesn't. I don't want to be dancing away and someone comes in demanding a buff. I know not everyone is rude, but the rude ones are the ones that make the impressions more than the non-rude ones.
Pre CU I enjoyed when the combat professions asked me if I had time for a buff (Yes they asked very very few demanded) They made the time spent in the cantinas enjoyable and also padded my bank account very well. If I did not wish to buff anyone I woudl explain that I really did not have the time. 99% of all the people I buffed were kind, enjoyable and very friendly. I had Master dance/music on 7 servers and all were the same. I really have no idea where this 'hate' comes from. I have not seen it.
I'm retiring from entertainment, not because I don't enjoy it but becauseI don't enjoy being made a public slave. I probably won't lose what I worked for since I have a combat toon already, so looks like Meliya will just be aPilot only.
I am returning, I have been retired for awhile now. I think this change will be great fun and will increase the places I am asked to go. If one happens to have some amazing results I may find a nice reward in my bank account also. OMG the thought of a non-pitty tip!!! I can't wait for these new buffs that help the large player base (jedi)

The only place I will be found performing (if ever) will be secure and private locations. If I decide to buff, only a select few will benefit from them.
When entertainers feel the only safe place to entertain is in private locations, then we have a problem. You aren't the only person I've heard this from. In fact, some of the entertainers in my entertainerguild have expressed similar feelings as yourself when it comes to public dancing.
The problem is that there are not manysafeguards in place.Ifyou are dancing and someone decides to start a quarrel with you or harass you, there isn't very much you can doto prevent them from continuing. Maybe /addignore... which doesn't reallystop them at all because they will still probably keep talking about you or simply move on to harass another entertainer. I think a "Report Harassment" from the holocron (Ctrl+H) is a better solution. Don't justhint that you willreport them(I've done this before and it doesn't solve anything)...actually report them.
If nobody reports a jerk, then they will simply continue being a jerk without a second thought. That is why I think /addignore is simply ignoring the problem instead of dealing with it.I hatethat players should have to deal with any type of in-game abuse, but it exists and the tools should be used if they are there to prevent it from happening again as much as possible.

The biggest problem is that /addignore is mostly useless. It stops them sending you text, but it doesn't stop them from griefing you in other ways. The latest favorite of Zabba and a few other people on Naritus is to have Jedi duels at live entertainer performances. They know this lags and upsets the entertainers and they do it on purpose.
Our solution has, sadly, been to switch to using private locales, where we can at least eject them if they do this. And that is a shame.

I've managed to fail at one more thing, this time making my point clear. So rather than defend my thoughts and opinions and have this turn into a flamefest on me, I concede defeat to you all. I am apparently in the minority of players that do not wish to be buffers or healers, and therefore my opinions and experiences are null and void. I thought the forums were a place to express our thoughts, feelings, opinions, ideas, and problems. I guess I was mistaken in this.
I don't hate Jedi, whatI hate are the jedi that think everyone is beneath them and act that way towards everyone. I have Jedi friends, and they are some of the nicest and greatest Jedi I have ever met. Sadly, they have to share the profession with the jedi that think they are godly. And before you judge me again, I have received as much animosity and hate from both jedi and non-jedi, including entertainers.
I'm happy for you all that like these new buffs. We needed content and we got it. It's too bad those that don't like these buffshave to be silenced and flamed. I wasn't planning on losing my entertainer skills, I was hoping to come back and rejoin the entertainer ranks at some point. I wanted to see how things were going to pan out, but it appears I nor my voice are welcome. Why be a part of a community that despises a disenting voice.
Good-bye to you all and may you live long andfruitful lives. May you find happieness in all you do.
I honestly didn't try to flame you at all. I just wanted to dance with you

I didn't know about the Jedi change? Is that for like crafting their sabers or something? I'll have to read more into this. But you still have passive buffs and can stick with those if you chose to. Its your character, your time. Play the way you want to.
I don't think the problem here is with "playing the way we want to." Everybody has that option. In a sense, the Ad-Spammer in Theed plays the way he or she wants to as well. If we choose to never buff anyone at all, and never be available for buffing, we could base our game around doing 1000 credit missions in Nashal, perpetually, for all the time we play. But I don't know how many of us would be satisfied with that.
Goldy_Lhim wrote:
Why do you allow them to treat you like that?
Because we don't want to spend our day as a dancer doing 1000 credit missions at Nashal.
Goldy_Lhim wrote:
My /addignore works just fine. A /report here and there is also a good tool.
How is asking for a buff grounds for an /addignore, or a /report? It isn't. They want us to click through the /inspire, and the menu. That's the only thing that is important to them. But I do not know why these things have much to do with being a dancer. The only reason they have anything to do with dancing, is that the developers forced the association.
But I'd bet you that if I didn't need to dance to give it, and patrons didn't have to sustain a /watch to get it, customers would pay me just as much--if not more--to just give it to them, without having to watch a performance at all.

No one treats me like some sort of buff drone or they'll be looking elsewhere for a buff. No one "demands" anything from my game time without my consent. They cannot make you buff them. Let the rude ones find their inspiration elsewhere.
What is stopping them from doing that, Goldy? The fact thatwe won't buff them? What makes your buff, or my buff,so much better than a guild alt? Which is why if they can't get you to act like their buff drone, they'll just buy a buff drone, and /addignore we who make demands of them.
Nobody ever said we have to buff. Frankly, nobody ever said we have to even be dancing in a venue, either. But if we are not there to buff them, why are we there? For our own amusement? Well, we could do that and earn 2000 credits every ten minutes, or so. How long can that last for us?
We could do it to amuse others. Frankly though, as Chessak said, everybody is too busy amusing themselves in POIs. The things that they do there promise so much more action packed, danger filled, and rewarding than any daily business we could do.
So when players come to the cantina (or more likely, ask us to go to them), they will be looking for an enhancement.
They are not looking for self-respecting dancers likeyou and I,to say no to them.
After all, it is so easy to buy and level up a self-disrespecting dancer for guild use, it would probably be better in the long run for them to do that, instead.
So yes, Goldy. They will be getting their inspirations elsewhere. How does that help you, I, or the profession have fun?

The choice is yours to be a dancer or a public slave. You have taken this change and chosen to mark yourself as a public slave. Perhaps things are different on your server but a @sshat is an @sshat and still gets zero time of day from me. You don't have to inspire everyone. You get to chose.
What about our server's choice? They get to choose too. Do you think they choose to deal with someone who is demanding? Or someone that will type /inspire, and the menu box, no questions asked? And it wouldn't be so bad if we had more choices to play as dancers. But the truth of the matter is, we need them far more than they need us. They know we can't keep on saying "no" to them, because the only alternative is to play in the cantina for nobody for 2000 credits every ten minutes.
As a dancer, I do not want more of a reason for patrons not to come to me. I want more reasons for them to come to me, over their purchased alt. I don't see how asserting my rights not to be used helps me. After all, both you, and I, always had it in the form of /stopdance since launch.

Best of luck to you and I hope you reconsider
No dear, best of luck to you.![]()
When the only thinga dancercan doto earn a tip is reduced tothe ability to type in a "/" command, and hit a box,we are going to need all the luckwe can get to be a better dancer, and keep our dignity at the same time.
That sounds great when dancers can find a lot of other dancers.
But what if my dance team isn't on? Like at 10 AM on a weekday? What can we busy ourselves with as dancers when no other dancersare around?
Ms. Goshi, thedancers hereare going to understand the problem sooner or later. My guess is, sooner.
The developers, the other players, and even we ourselves have always approached the problems of entertainment as a matter of, "what role are we to fulfillfor other players."
But it has never dawned upon us that the question is not, "what role are we to fulfill for other players," as much as, "what role are we to fulfill in the SWG galaxy, regardless of other players."
If we should be buffing, then what should we be doing if nobody needs a buff?
If we should be planning events, then what should we be doing in the time between events, or when nobody goes to our events?
If we log on at 10 AM, what should we be doing as dancers, regardless of who is on, what they need, or what we can do outside of our profession skills?
Nothing but /logoff, apparently.

goodness i didn't know I was trying to solve all your weekday woes all at once.
Well Goldy, being a dancer is easy when there are people who want to see us around.
The problem is, what is the point of being a dancer, when nobody is around?
