As I posted in another thread... I don't think the new flourishes are an improvement. Yes, Poplock is better. The rest, ugh. As bad or worse. Different and/or Mo-capped they may be, but they look more like epileptic fits or crude beginner disco moves than real dance moves to me. *shrug* it's getting easier and easier to just not even bother dancing.

as far as i know these are all done by motion capturing of a real dancer. because they were removing all hand-animated flourishes, so technically these are real dance moves.

Footloose.... I especially love the flourish that looks like your fanning away a fart.

lol ok, glad to know I wasn't the only one who saw that flourish and thought that *giggles*

As for the rest of them....several ofthe basic and rhythmic flourishesdo seem to simulate flailing more than before....and as was said elsewhere in the thread, some of the lyrical flourishes are very nice (and feminine hehe) but far too fast. The new song makes me think of the gunsmoke theme...or maybe rawhide O_o It would be fun to be in a huge "line dance"group with the new dance, I'm from Texas and some of those moves seem quite familiar

As a whole I was totally heartbroken when I saw the flows. The only really nice animations coming out of the new release are the new emotes, its interesting in that these nice animations are for everyone where as the others are for the dancers. This coupled with the new "dance" has about done me in.

Please accept my apologies for sounding bitter but I REALLY love this game and this profession and its tearing me apart to see whats happening to it.

I felt just the same, I must admit. I was very disappointed after being all excited about hearing rumours. I tried out all the dances to check all the flourishes and what I saw broke my heart. Yes, the change to poplock is nice, but the other dances have not changed for the better. Not even lyrical. I may need to get used to them yet, I tried them out for an hour or two and then left with a sick feeling in my stomach. I'm not saying that its not great that we got some attention, but I for one am not happy about the changes - dancing is all about aesthetics, and these additions are - in my opinion - simply not aesthetic.

I am really happy for you guys on your new flourishes, it's about time you guys got something tossed your way. I saw the video, I think they were well done...

Wow, thanks for the link to the new flourishes. I tried to get into the Test Center, but for some reason it keeps telling me my files are corrupted and I can't get further. Even after repairing them from the CDs. The Basic and Rythmic flourishes are interesting. The Footloose ones are... unique. Not that I was ever a huge fan of the origional Footloose,I always felt like I was at a grape stomp. But I really like the new ones for Poplock! Finally ones that give us that true 'robot' dance. I love using that one, especially when I am a solo dancer and the cantina happens to be mostly male. It's one of our more 'masculine' dances I think. And the last four to Lyrical are nice as well. I'll probably never really use them, but they are nice to have. I'm glad to see that Dancers are finally getting some fixes to the dances we've had since release.

Personally, I think these are great quality anims! I noticed the speed issue at first too that RM mentioned, but if you saw the mo-cap Dancer doing these irl on the video, she really was like super speedy! That girl's not natural!

My only beef with these (as with all of our flos past and present) is that they are long running and often repetitive. If these were broken down into smaller anims, we could actually choreograph our own routines finally! This is what we need. We need building blocks to make our own dances, not canned long running anims that have to work against our healing mechanics to be made into something unique.

I posted about this in a reply on the "other" forums... I'll go find that and repost it here so you guys can all see what I said.

Awesome! I'd love to see some things that would allow for more creativity. As it is...the dances are nearly all the same. You feel like you'll never see something new. With Musician, I can see alot of room to play. It took me a while to get the hang of it, but I'm finally learning to mix sounds and instruments to make even a duet with my droid sound pleasing A little more flexibility with the Dance profession might get me really excited about it again. Currently, I feel like it's more suited as a social outlet than an artistic one. (Hence, my recent focus on the DE profession. All I need are some Memory and GP Modules and I can start making a million unique droids.) A bit more to play with and I might go back to spending time in cantinas...in an effort to actually impress somebody.

Found it! Editing out other people's names.

The animation fixes are much better quality than the ones they are replacing, however, we will still have all the same problems we do with our current Flos:

1. You have to use your highest base dance to gain max Dance XP. This is not in line with Musician's Music XP gain since they can play either their highest song OR use their highest instrument. Both Professions would be improved by allowing us to gain XP based on our Knowledge Bonus, not on the art we choose to express ourselves with. This should be changed.

2. These flourishes are too long and have too many repeating elements as do many of our current live Dancer Flourishes. We need to be able to customize our routines and Long Flourishes undermine a unique look. We need to be able to pick and choose parts of a flourish we want to use with a start anim param and end anim param: /basic flo 1 3 4, this would mean "call flourish one from basic starting 3 seconds into the animation and ending on the fourth second of the animation.

3. We should be given short flourishes like turns, jumps, and leaps that can be used as a Choreographer's toolbox, like Crafters have with their gazillion schematics and options on their schematics (color, stats, so on).

4. We should be able to call any Flourish from any Base Dance by naming the Base Dance: /footloose flo 6 - this should have no impact on XP gain, it's just a way to express ourselves as Dancers

5. We should have a group command for start/stop/change Dance, like the Musicians had added for Music way back in the day.

6. Base dances with turns warp the Dancer around coming out of a Flourish animation. This looks ugly and is hard to avoid. Idle Dance loops should restart after finishing each flourish so the transition is smooth and pretty.

7. The Base Dances Lyrical and Formal have not been fixed with these fixes, even though Lyrical has had fix flos added. These are not usable in their current state because anyone watching the Dancer performing them sees the Dancer warp-walking instead of Dancing. There is obviously a problem making the server think it needs to fix the Dancer's position due to the way these Dances are moving us in the world. Please fix this with these fixes.

8. The Exotics still don't have their Flourish Fixes. Five unique anims are not enough to share across three upper level Dance Versions.

It's a big deal thatEditedName1 hates these new Anims and EditedName2 loves them. Being a Dancer in this game should offer you the chance to be a Master of Animations and Emotes for Self Expression and Entertainment for others... just as ID gives you Mastery over a Character's looks beyond Creation and Tailor gives you Mastery over Clothing Appearance beyond what the game hands us.

These art tools we have been given are great! They add a whole new world to the gaming experience for both the people in these professions and the people who choose to interact with them.

Dancer needs this opportunity as well. We could do great things with these art tools in the game world, you just need to hand them over.

and then...

La la la, I can't hear you! *plugs ears*

For real though... where am I allowed to ask for this then? *sniff* That's not even half of what we need, that's like bare minimum!

ID gives you a little taste of Char Modeling. Tailor gives you a little taste of Texturing. Dance should give you a little taste of Animating... and right now it just doesn't.

If this is our time for "Art Fixes", they should be done right.

I'm so glad we can all talk about these now! How do you all think we should handle this on our issues list?

Most likely this will be a Dancer Revamp item. I think it's very important that we have this issue up to date when they go to look at our file.

WOW! LLOLL!

I think they are really awesome!

The butt fanning one is definetly a tad distasteful, but most of the other ones are really awesome, imo!

/congrat Dancers
