Overuse of ellipses is probably the worst habit I have when posting in the forums and chatting in-game. I bet it gets pretty annoying to people, but I like them.

I have so many pet peeves about the way people type (and talk for that matter)now that I think about it. Just a couple more off the top of my head:

"one hundred one" means 101
"one hundred and one" means 100.1

Correct: Hi there, Sally!
Incorrect: Hi there Sally!

The overuse of "that." Read through any number of posts out here and you'll find that at least 75% of time "that" can be eliminated. (Look, I've used it five times in this short post. It's one of the most often used, but unnecessary words out there.)

Ok, I could list off a thousand nitpicks about the mutilation of English out here and words I hate, but then everyone would line up tokill me, so I'll shut up now.

Yay! Someone else that loves making fun of other people's grammar. (That might sound like an insult, but I am completely serious.) If anyone is interested in a great book for being picky about grammar (any of you who read novels with a pencil to mark errors), try Eats, Shoots and Leaves, by Lynne Truss. Any book with an entire chapter dedicated to the comma is "deliciously evil"!

Here's an example of 1337 done up as a RP, I can't read his posts, because it gives me headaches just reading them.

I could have written that story in five minutes, but it would have taken me five hours to translate it into that abomination of the language. I pray it was written as a joke and the poster doesn't actually write that way.

He does, all the time.

Is anyone else tired of hearing these words uttered by entertainers?

I am actually more tired of hearing:

"big bank tips go in my bio"

"please tip and heal me"

"can i get an invite to an entertianer group" (while already in a entertianer group of course)

And I also think that 'leet is a wonderful manifestation of English that keeps our language evolving and plural but not for a RP game perhaps

... except b33r and pi3 --I can allow those

I admit that I am also guilty of Spazzy girl talk, which I really see no problem with. Though I have to conceede that hon really bothered me in the beginning too. I guess I just picked it up while hanging out in the cantinas. I see it kinda like a picked up accent. For example, I just moved back to my home state of Arizona after spending 3 years in Texas where my husband was stationed. Now I don't actually have a Texan accent, but I do find myself saying "y'all" all too often. And now my husband insists on adding an r to wash (ie I'm gonna go out and warsh the car) which is another Texan thing. Sometimes you just can't help picking up things like that.

On a side note, sorry for every time I've ever called you hon, Drygo. If I ever do it again you have permission to smack me upside the head.

I'm actually more tired of entertainers not responding at all.

Hey everyone. Is there a group going?

*lots of macroed text spamming in spatial but no reply*

I walk around and ask again. If there is an entertainer group, can I have an invite?

*more repeats of macro spamming*

Who's the leader?

*more text spamming*

Tho there is one thing I try to break, it's a habit and I annoy myself with it. It's lol. I mean I can just as easily type haha, or use a smiley, instead I say lol and many others do so too. It's eevul I say, and should be bannished.

I really try to avoid using IRC lingo, but having done this for so many years it's not easy to break this habit when talking in SWG *grins*

(I do use hehe and aww often, giggle hardly ever. I use lol and other lame abbrevations instead)

Many things in nature "de-evolve" only to fill a different niche and then have definite positive evolutionary steps in return... sort of a one step back - two steps forward thing.

Not too many words bother me but IRL abreviations do. I don't agree that leet is an evolution of English simply because half of it is made from numbers not letters, they simply aren't words.

English is a language that never met a word it didn't like and I'm fine with that. As a southerner I use ma'am a lot when speaking to the ladies and its funny to see the reactions. The younger players are often confused or made to feel old by it which isn't the intent, most mature ladies simply appreciate the courtesy.

The biggest thing I hate in today's online chat is a significant lack of courtesy. The abbreviations are just rude to me, plain and simple. It shows a lack of consideration for making sure your intended audience can understand you. Being a bit older member of the community it also worries me that a whole generation is learning poor communication skills because they don't know how to write their thoughts down in chunks larger than 5 mangled words.

I'm guilty of using 'hon' but I reserve itfor friends who I actually like. Not every random person I come across. I do not like the use of 'hun'. 'Hun' is a member ofan ancient culture of nomads from the Steppes of Russia. It is not a term of endearment.

I also pride myself on using full words, although I often leave out apostrophe's. There are different levels of grammar for different environments. If I am in spatial in the cantina I try to be as proper as I can be. If I am trading tells with a friend I don't care as much about it.

Some of the shortcuts don't even make sense to me. How much more time does it take to type 'you' instead of 'u', 'thanks' instead of 'thx', or 'please' instead of 'pls'?
