I like "hun" or "hon" and it's better than what I usually get called....

Ma'am is a great word though. Being addressed with courtesy as opposed to "Hey you" is wonderful.
I believe M'lady was used in Attack of the Clones in reference to Queen Amidala

Ahh but she's a queen, or a former queen then. You don't call a tavern dancer m'lady, just like you wouldn't call a queen hon.

should "hehe" be spelled "hee hee"? if so, that might be more tolerable.

I use "hehe" all the time, but never thought of it as cutesy. I use it when I find something slightly funny. It ranks just below chuckle. Now, "hee hee" or "tee hee" I'd consider cutesy, and they'd become annoying pretty quickly to me.

Cute just really isn't in my nature. Most who know me would probably think I'd been possessed by demons if I even attempted cuteness. I'm much more likely to spill out a nice hearty HAHA! than a hehe.
Hun & gunna (going to) are my two pet peeves. My dislike of them comes from knowing someone formany yearswho hasrather made a career of cutsey and she rarely utters a sentence without using (misusing) one of those two aberrations.
I'm degreed in English and my career requires a lot of writing, when I am wanting to make a point or be taken seriously I gravitate away from "casual" words and phrases. When writing letters (I have a thing for nice paper and pens), e-mails or posts to friends in a more casual manner, I use a lot of ellipses to demonstrate thought pauses. I know this annoys a lot of people. I've also received comments that these add to the effect of the reader "hearing" my voice in the words or I'm told that I "write the same way I speak".
Leet speak is a funny thing and I've actually become rather proficient at it after working at a job wherethe skill was almost pre-requisite. One of my characters in SWG speaks only in Leet. Her state of mind is a bit different from most with whom she shares the language, however.I've played her in 4 games now and she's really quite fun. In SWG, she has been awarded the "interesting personage" (roleplay) badge.
I've recently been told that if I'd just be a little more cutesy in my posts that I would be less likely to come off as intending toinsult people (language filter wouldn't let me use the term I'd prefer to use). That's just sad.

Personally I don't see "Hun" or "Hon" as being cutesy but it's all in the ears of the beholder. I typically use it with women I know and tend to use "man" or something like that in a very casual friendly manner with the guys.
verbal and visual clueson the net are lost in communication which also hurts in conveying meaning. You can say the "best things" in a condescending manner with the right visual and verbal methods.
"You Rock!!" I think you're great
"You Rock!!" Hey loser tip me next time I buff you

I don't know what it would be termed under (possibly leet speak stuffies?) but it really chaps my hide when people use one letter or a number in place of a whole word.
Example: I will c u later. Did u shout 4 a grp?
I mean really. How hard is it to type out "see" instead of c? Just annoys me to no end.
As to the endearments, I am pretty stingy I guess with the "honey, love, baby, and sweetness" stuffies. I only say those things to people that Iam close to in RL (whether they just beonline friends or my beloved...they still have toknow me to have me refer to them in that way). That is just my personal preference though, it really doesn't bother me when others use them.

I'm a fast typist, and I'm so not used to using words like c for see and 4 for "for." It actually slows me down. And, it also slows me down when I'm reading. But, I guess when one has gotten used to it, it seems faster.
For me, though, it just causes extra mental strain.

Pet peeve: "Tee Hee" it sounds little girlish and effects me like fingernails being scraped over a chalkboard. "Hehe" doesn't bother me at all.
I was a user of the endearment "Hun", but after reading this thread I see the light and have changed my ways! Okay, Luv?
