The fastest way to earn money is space. Even noob pilots can manage the tier1 spawn in the Tat system. It really doens't take long to earn some money that way. They can keep some components to upgrade their ships and sell the rest. That's what I tell them and I haven't come across one recently that doesn't have JTL.

What by now I find far more annyoing than spam (which I can /addignore - yes it's annoying too) are dancer/musicians who are afk on centerstage (blocking the way for life entertainers), and having at least 3 times more light effects in their macro than flourishes.

This does not make your Performance look any more cool or lifely or exciting. Its simply annyoing if 4 afkers are doing that and lagging the hell out of the place.

As expected, I didn't see anything in the tutorial about spamming for tips (for cute outfits or otherwise). I suggest kicking that girl's feet out from under her next time you run past.

Excellent!! That's exactly what I was hoping. I was going to be crushed if the quest said something about begging for tips.

Yeah me too! Actually, "furious" would probably be a better word, lol!

There was a spammer in the cantina for a long while that told eveyone who didn't have her on ignore that tips were "appericated."My friend and I spent many hours laughing at her openly until one day she caught us and changed her macro to "Tips are very much apreshiated." Which was, of course, even more funny for us. Finally, she sent me a tell and asked me how to spell it. I told her "We would all 'appreciate' itif you don't spam for tips in here." And I'll be damned, it actually worked.

So, I'm standing outside Theed Starport, just playing my mando for kicks...when I hear "Tips help buy me new cute clothes ". I, of course, did a /gag at her.

She's a noob and says that the tutorial told her to beg for credits. I gave her some advice and hopefully she'll take it. Of course, the way so many n00bs have been lately, I doubt it.

Bah. I hate being so cynical.

How do you handle these types of things? Are you just so tire of it you ignore them? Or do you still, after 2 years for some of you, continue to guide and help the new people?

omg did the tutorial really tell her to beg for credits? Time to make a noob somewhere and investigate! Gather up the gang we have a mystery on our hands!

Ha!

I know it doesn't say that, I took screenies... but it also says nothing about talking to patrons or grouping and it says a few other things that are just not quite right.

Allura says "I know a lot of things. You hear quite a bit in cantinas, and this one specifically. I know a little about everything, and everything about entertaining. That is what you need to learn."

"Good. First thing that you need to know is to listen to yourself. Your inner music and inner rhythm will make your art come to life. But no matter how much talent you have, you must practice. Try it now! Sing! Dance!
Whatever your heart desires."

"Very good. I want you to perform for 2 minutes. That will give you and hour of inspiration and a good feel for what it is like."

"Yes! Entertainers inspire people to do better. For awhile after watching a musician or dancer, or performing yourself, you will learn faster, craft better, and gain faction more efficiently."

Entertainers may perform anywhere and gain experience for performing; however, only in cantinas, guildhalls, or camps will the entertaining be effective to other players. Entertainers heal battle fatigue and inspire their audience to greatness. To perform, press the button that says 'Start Dancing' or 'Start Music' and choose the type of dance or music. Gain experience by performing flourishes.

To move a flourish to the Activities Bar, open the Command Browser by pressing B on the keyboard. Left-click on the 'Other' tab and scroll down until you see the buttons marked 'Flourish 1 (Dance & Music)'. Left-click and drag any of the flourishes to the Activities Bar. Now, while you are performing, press the Flourish button to perform a flourish and gain experience.

*dances for 1 min and 50 secs*
*hears terrifying siren*

If you tell her you are finished she says, "Great! Exhilarating, isn't it? I love the feeling of people watching me and enjoying my work. I hope you feel the same."

How many things do we see off here? /eyebrow Allura

I like that line a lot, I think the rest hints at spamming and botting though. *shrug* The Jedi talks about how useful entertaining is too, nothing about real performances or meeting people. The NPC telling you she enjoys being watched and to "sing" along with the focus on usefulness instead of social play in a cantina where you are almost sure to have other players already there spamming their little AFK hearts out just screams "please bot this profession or use it only while you are leveling for extra XP gain" to me.

We have great guides in here that talk about grouped performances, ent guilds, talking to patrons, gathering information, how to make money, how to enhance a performance with costumes, props, songs, and bandflourishes. I think some of that should be mentioned so people will understand that the focus of the prof isn't spamming for tips or being a useful bot. It just misses the mark for sending the right message for the goal of this prof group.

A lot of players new to the game see no difference from the tutorial and a player with the helper tag above their head emailing them a macro to plug in and start using. Fact is that if you go to the new player area on just about any server the first players there to welcome the new players are not always going to be those with social agendas... In fact just about every server I checked the first players a new person met were the types looking ot exploit the new players either by offering to buy their BARCs at a lower than server market value, recruiting them for guilds or trying to get them to join new player cities. These helpful players are full of all kinds of great tips on things like how to spam your services and goods, how to earn credits and experience while AFK to avoid all of that boring grinding, the best places to powergame up to a "real" level. There is really nothing you can do through coding to help that either... Players will almost always skip the tutorial in favor of a shortcut offered by a vet player.

All you can really do to make a positive difference is post guides here on the forum, get them easily readable (our current FAQ for instance is not very good for the at a glance new player) and then make sure you start spending some time in Mos Eisley being a real entertainer and be accessible for question answering and for general tips on what really works well.
