Thread: Cover Charge

The cover charge is a totally useless addition. You dont get tips ?, try greeting people, talking to them, flirt a little, make it fun for them to come and see you, I've been 'grinding' dancer for a week, I'm not master dancer yet, I've earnt over 2 million credits in tips, an AV-21,several rare posters and most importantly of all, I've made a lot of friends. Cover charge ?. pffft
Couldn't have said it better myself. On my home server, Esh is filthy rich and disgustingly well known. She got that way by"putting on a show".I never got into buffing because it forced us to break our performances. I see no reason to change what I've already proven to work for me.
I can't say that covercharge is totally useless because it appears to be only a small piece of additions that we'll see more of in the future and I am not sure where the devs are going with this. As it stands right now, it is not a part of my game. If, in the future, I see where it fits in with a bigger picture, I'll re-evaluate.
It’s the “….. not knowing where the Devs are going with this ……” which bothers me.
Is it truly that much to ask that they do give us some kind of overview of their final goal for us? Yes I know we were not part of CU, but hello…. The CU did effect us. Most classes effected by CU got overview of what is expected of them and direction their class “may” go. CH are the Mages, Smugglers are the Enchanters, BH are the Tanks and so on …. But what are we? Wallpaper? $15 a month Screensaver? I’m sorry but silence is starting to get to me.
have been spending that time making fixes to broken quests
per time to code this, but still) .. bla bla bla
Remember dancers. We could have had a game that based our pay on something that made sense, that made what we do at the keys make a difference, and that was more deep and comprehensive than "skill animate and sell /watch."
But we kept on hearing calls for "I want more control."
Apparently /stopdance wasn't enough of a control.
Apparently /deny wasn't either.
And now we have exactly what we want, don't we? We have exactly what I argued so strongly against in the "inspiration buff thread." More control to ensure that nobody can /watch you without coughing up a fee.
Those very same people who argued with me that they needed to ensure a "return on their investment" created the class they apparently want: a merchant class that sells no goods. But by doing so, they basically butchered any real attempt to be anything other than a skill animator in looted clothes.
Do remember, that just as we were given /CoverCharge, so too will we be given an upper level difference in mechanics. It is quite apparent that those million dollar skilltapes will come in handy again.
Sirii, I'm sorry to hear you feel this way. It does still make a difference if you enjoy it. For it's own sake. Even if you dance or play music for no one but yourself -- if you enjoy that -- then it still makes a difference.
Long ago when you used to be on Intrepid, your posts about being an Entertainer were partly what attracted me to entertaining as a profession rather than just something fun to do during idle time between crafting or combat.
Due to hologrinders, afkers, buffbots, FS grinders, too many other tasks in my city and guild keeping me busy... being a casual player and the frustration at how long it was taking to level... it's taken me since launch day to finally get my Gorath char to Master Dancer and Master Musician. It took me 8 months (with tons of help from guildies and friends) to get my Intrepid char to Master Dancer.( I dropped Master temporarily so I could free up points to get Novice Musician +1 to bank the xp needed to get the Western song. And I'm also working on the xp needed to get Theatrical 2.)

I plan on setting it to 1000 credits any time I'm in a public cantina. That's pittance really. Even newbie players start off with several thousand credits now (I'm thinking it's as much as 75k, but I can't remember offhand).
Actually, a brand new toon starts out with 1k. I know, because I just bought the new Total Experience. However, when I've created a character on another server with my old character, I get the $75k. That was part of the christmas gift, so if you ditch your old toon and start a new one, it gets the 75k.
A total brand new newbie gets 1k only.
This only bugs me when friends or obviosly poor new characters come around. I gonna have to make some room free on my toolbar for that... maybe I am gonna say bye-bye to all the colorlight and spotlight effects except the best... the lesser versions aren't so much different just less spectacular.
Another chance given to the system.
Mos Eisley cantina, heavy traffic, usual population of entertainers, no bot, playing StarWars2 on fanfar on a convenient spot in the main room, no title displayed (I have none related to music), /covercharge set to 200, only one other entertainer (a beginner) was using /covercharge in the group, setting it at 500 cr, group of 4 to 6 people, all centered on the main room entry.
After two hours and halfof real fun playing music with two ATK musicians (I did the rythmic line !), I got 800 cr (so, 4 patrons).
it's four times better (in terms of watching patrons) than the single patron paying me 1000 cr with a master dancer title displayed. Considering that I was in the entertainer line of skills (longer time needed to apply the inspiration) and nothing could have been a reason to choose me over someone else, I then suppose the fee itself was a major point, not the time needed to apply an inspiration buff.
Seems it matters little for a patron if he has to wait 4 minutes, or 1, to get his buff. What matters is how much he is ready to pay.
I don't know how much the other entertainer (with the 500 cr /covercharge) got, as he went AFK.
At several moments I saw other entertainers not setting /covercharge thanking patrons so I suppose they got free given tips (I didn't ask them, I am not at ease about asking that as it could be considered as a judgement on how they perform)
For now, my grand total with gaining money with /covercharge is 1800 cr for a fair number of hours performing.

(I know I am speaking about music and it could/should be posted on the musician board but indeed, the /covercharge is common to three professions, the inspiration buff is the same and it's a follow up of my previous post)
Your feedback is welcome here, regardless.

All that /covercharge does is making buffbotting easier. Instead of checking emails and logs the botters can nowbe sure that anyone getting a buff from them paid them.
I won't set covercharge.
