First case soundsinteresting if your into RP anyway

Second case i feel sorry for you

Ive had some cases like number two actually i think, which made me use ignore and report quite quickly (im generally thick skinned but some people just go too far to be reasoned with)

If you are comfortable enough to hit on them, I've seen that to be an effective method as well. However if you are the non confrontational type, /addignore. My best advice is to seek out fellow entertainers, very view that I have run into have anything against male dancers. If they do start that way, they change before long or learn to hide it very well. You're fellow entertainers will stick up for you and make situations like this alot more bearable.

Not always.

So here's a fun thing you can watch for. Do the entertainer quests, be it dance or music, and when you do the 'get x amount of people to watch/listen to you', don't go begging for people to do so, but dance in the cantina, and pay attention to the names that come across.
I had taken the first of these, and was playing music in the cantina (I don't want to beg just cause it annoys me to do so (not it annoys the people, it annoys me to spend my time begging), and someone wanted buffs, and was happy to take my 10% dancer buff rather than from one of the dancers around me becaue he knew me from before and had been happy with my service. So, I switch to dancing for him, and I'm in my penance hawtpants and warm hat, and some guy comes in the door, and I see the 'you're being watched by xxxx - you have 6 more people to go' message, despite the fact that there were several female dancers around in the cantina. So, ok, this guy didn't have a problem with male dancers, maybe he liked them, *but* if you should get that message from someone who then makes comments to you deriding your male dancing, you can ask them snidely "well why are you specifically watching me then?" .
Dunno how often it would happen, but could be a fun coincidence.

Last night, since I had completed the audition, I went to Coronet Cantina on a whim to see if I could get ten honest to god combatants to watch me.

I waved and greeted people. That I could tell, not a single other entertainer in the joint was ATK. No one answered me when I spoke. I was the only master in the room that I could see, outside of the buffbot parked to the side. A steady stream of people did flow through.

I was there for an hour, not one person watched. Fortunately, I'm really not in a hurry to get the new dance.

I haven't had time to try the quest yet...but on a side note...devs...any way of making this a permanent feature? IE, allowing us to know who is watching us with a system message? I'd personally like to be able to thank or possibly have a conversation with those who decide to watch me.

I also started doing mine out of Coronet...well, I auditioned in Mos Entha and then went to Coronet for advertising. I was there for a good 10 or 15 minutes /greeting, /waving, /grinning, etc at the people who came through, but they all ran past me and went to Briha instead. I finally started /whapping everyone who went past me to it, and I managed to get 10 people to listen to me as well as a few folks whogot their music & dance buffs from me. (I was livid whenpeople would stop and get rid of their BF with me then go over to the buffbot for buffs.) Anyway, it's possible to get folks to try live Entertainment in Coronet, but dang, it's hard...and with the buffbot ignored, it's pretty much dead silent in there except for the folks running over tothe buffbotand spamming for an invite to its group. Coronet's pretty dull nowadays. I'd be happy to coordinate a time to work together on the "quests" though, Javy. Maybe we canbreathe a little life back into that cantina.

I'm sorry to hear that you've already had some of those comments addressed to you. I've not really hung around the NPC cantinas too much so I haven't got my fair share of those comments. I knew that I might be in for some when I started playing, but I figured that since I had already decided to make a dancer that I was secure enough in my own masculinity to not let idiot teenagers whose idea of scintillating wit is a rather ungrammatical "omg your gay" bother me.

Actually, since I started playing I have noticed a change in my attitude. Before I probably would just have ignored them. Now if I ever encounter this behavior I might just try hitting on the person involved instead. You just have to take it in your stride, and remember that while you may be a mature individual, there are plenty of people who are immature (and, sadly, also some older people who should be mature) who play this game. Supposedly SOE cares deeply about issues of harrassment (they say that they do and they'd never lie, right?) so asking them to stop and then issuing a /report might also appeal to you, even though, unfortunately, nothing will probably ever come of it. Even so, I think that you're going to have more of a problem with the lack of good clothing selection than you are with idiots.

I just wish that the art team had gifted men with a little something down below, because I swear that if I hear one more "hello ladies" I'd like something so that I can strip naked, point, and shout "Look! Male!" But I'm getting off-topic.

Personally, when it happened early on I just shrugged it off. Early though, I didn't play Theed or Coronet. I stayed pretty much to myself out on Talus in Dearic. What few patrons I had there were just grateful there was someone in the cantina I think, regardless of gender. And I never had a problem in Theed, for the reason that Tiaga mentoned. Between him, Drygo and I, the 1337s are quite used to seeing males dance. When I work Coronet on occasion, I have had more than a few ask me for a buff. Ern is also very verbal with the ladies both entertainer and non when they come in.

Have I run into a few guys behind female avatars? Sure. My answer is always, "So?" More than once that has lead to an OOC tell conversation with some of these kids about what it means to roleplay. Sometimes they understand, sometimes they don't. Just keep dancing.

Ohhhh....got a new one last night.....

Guy came into the cantina asking for a Musician/Dancer buff....Masters only.....I pay very well.

I said I'd give him a dance buff and he said "I only get buffs from women. I'm not a homophobe in real life but my character is in game.".

I told him that's ok cause I'd rather not look at him while I dance either. Then I said in group...."I'm not a homophobe in real life....I'm just a jacka@@". Thanks to Elwyn for having my back and not giving him a music buff after he said that to me.

Yeah yeah bad I know but I was in a bad mood and it made me feel better.

Found out his "pay very well" was 5k so pffttt. The stupidity of it all was he stood there and kept asking for a buff for at least a good ten minutes since there were no female Master dancers in the cantina.

Lamest excuse for "role playing" to date.

Oddly, I got the following last week while in Theed. Now the odd part is...I was not dancing, but playing my bandfil.

Patron:Hey, umm, do you, you know, like men in 'that way'?

Me: Well, no, acutally, I'm not, are you dissapointed?

Patron: Uh, no...just wondering you're an entertainer and all...

Generally, I've learned "Pay well" means more than 0 credits. That's all it can be taken to mean.

Yeah I don't know I really can't complain about the tips. I'm not sure what's changed in the time I was away other than the Hologrind making way to the FS grind but I'm generally rather happy with the cash.

I know when I stopped I probably averaged about 20% of the people I buffed tipped me at all. I used to get so mad cause I had a female dancer friend and she'd always tell me about the 30k tips she'd make and she didn't flirt just nice like I was and chat and I'd walk away with zilch.

That is entirely different now.....20k tips are a fairly regular thing. He hasn't made loads of cash but he doesn't have much in the way of expenses either.
