unfortunetly it is a sad new face to our profession. I was on yavin the other day and there was a novice entertain yelling that he would play for you if you had the cash... I walked into the tavern to heal my bf and he asked me. i was like why would i pay you. His answer was that i would pay more in travel expense to go get healed then to just pay him.
I normally dont wear my title.. so i flashed it on and he was like well then you should know how hard it is and help me out.
I was like sorry..no cash.. i am a poor dancer
I think this rather "strange" comment from your patron, Lovette, has nothing to really do with what is goingright with our profession, and everything with what is wrong with our profession. And what is wrong is this: We have entertainment across the servers that is so lousy that nobody in their right mind would watch or listen to them that they have to PAY an audience to be heard.
Because I tell you dears, there are two markets operating within the player economy right now that are desperate for employment:
1) Audiences -- If you don't mind being bored for a few hours, or don't mind putting your character development on hold for awhile, there are some unique and rare opportunities available to you from very bad entertainers to pull up a chair and listen to them. Sure, it may sound lousy, and you'd probibly have to be diseased and look like a fool in front of all the people onyour server for awhile, but I hear the pay is decent. If this sounds like your thing dears, a good friend of mine on my server, Lovette, found a guy once that says he can make 50,000 credits andcan care less if your 20 man band is all playing a different song, or if your toon is just macroing away in Lala Land. Of course, she had the good sense to tell him to take a leap, but I hear that there are entertainers that are so desperate for people to pay attention to them that they'll pay big credits. In fact, this guy could care less what you look or sound like, and will pretend to like you all nite if you want. Of course, you'll have to pay him to do it, but at least you won't have to worry about people who actually do sound good and are responsive to your patrons, who actually work hard and know that it takes real effort to get people watching you from stealing your clients. So if you are willing to put up with this and swallow your dignity, you can join the ranks of tumblers for medics who'd rather heal you than heal the injured, merchants who have entry fees on houses with nothing in them and vendors with nothing to sell, and a whole host of other characters who do humiliating and very boring things for very silly, impatient, and lazy people; who really don't want to be dancers, medics, or merchants at all.
2) Dancers -- If you want an exiting, challenging, in-game career that will give you respect and fun, you should consider being a dancer. In fact, there is a shortage of quality dancers throughout the servers, as evidenced by the numerous posts about horrendous experiences from patrons visiting the public cantinas of Corellia and Theed. Quality dancers can make upwards of 10k credits a customer simply by helping players enjoy their cantina stay, while gaining the respect and admiration of many rich Mon-Calamari weaponsmiths and high-ranking officers in the Rebel and Imperial military, who want more than the same boringcantina experiencethey see from entertainers who systematically ignore them by not playing. The job offers flexible hours, fame, riches, and networking opportunities. What will be required of you? Dedication, hard work, politeness, patience, being attentive to your patrons, being creative using your own sterling personality,an attempt to be in character and immersive in the game world, an effort to call your patrons out by name, an effort learn your dances and effects, an effort to learn the art of using macros that neither substitute nor impede your ability to be entertaining, and an effort to constantly improve your craft at delivering quality service throughout the galaxy. So if this sounds like something you'd like to do, and you are willing toput in a little effortto do it, see your local entertainment trainer today. The galaxy needs you.

Bad...butI can up the ante on this one. I got a tip from an entertainer after she healed me because she felt sorry I was a Driod Engineer. She wanted DE to stick around because she thought droids were cute. Good heart on her, but still humiliating non-the-less.
*laugh* Oh my, that's terrible.
You know a profession is suffering from an image problem when an Entertainer feels the need to give its members a pity tip.
I use that tactic to humiliate the 1-credit tippers. I haven't seen any lately, but there were those who hated Entertainers so much that they showed this hatred by saying, "Here's the tip you deserve," followed by a credit.
I usually responded with, "Oh, my, I wouldn't think of accepting a tip that is clearly a large portion of your wealth. You need to save up for a good gun. You will have to take a lot of those kreetle missions. Start at your level of expertise. You need this money more than I do." Then I tip him back.
I usually receive swearing after that. *grin*
I miss those one-credit tippers, actually.
Jeez, now I don't feel so bad about dealing with the idiots who go nuts when they don't get the EXACT slice they want on something.
I gotta mention, I always look for the live entertainers in a cantina. I usually look for the novices, and heal them as I watch or listen. I tip based on how much mind/BF healing I need, but it's always at least 500c (even if it's 1 BF or something). I mean, a pure entertainer can't go do rancor hunts for 18k, now can they? It'd be like waving a dogtreat in front of a hungry, cranky Doberman. You folks make your living off of your audience, you deserve to be shown some respect for it. God knows I'd be screwed if you weren't around (almost to Master Rifleman, I eat my own brains on a regular basis).
I just can't understand how someone can demand money for YOU fixing THEM. Or, even worse, 1 credit tip. That's just asinine. You should be able to reverse your heals, and let them go right back to how they were before they started listening/watching. (never happen, too easy to grief someone, but still....)
