Thread: I AFK Macro Dance Here Is Why
To the Person who told me to pay for people to releive me on Lok... Hey.. that is a good idea. I think I will do just that. Seriously.
I don't know who gave the one star and my "Hey ... thanks for the Star." was not directed at any one in particluar.
To the person who said Moiene and Kor Vall are on differnt Planets ... Opps ... My bad. I ran missions on both and got them mixed up... but the missions i was thinking of are on Naboo... From Moine (sp) to Theed 13875 to the NW. Whether I got the names wrong or not, the point is the same. You can make as much money as you want running Delivery missions on Naboo .... In the case i mentioned it was the Theed to Moeine (sp) run.
As far as the argument about "why should anyone tip someone who is there when they can get healed by an afk for free..."
Well, do you denyservice? if not, how do you make people pay?
IF a Live chatting person is more desireable than an AFK person then it should not matter if there is an AFK dancer. Unless of course you are going to start denying service to people who do not pay. Then, Yes. An afk person is having an effect on your income.
Again. I was PAID to come to Lok and I continue to be paid to perform.
I Only Macro AFK when I go to bed and when I am at work. I Log on after the servers come up in the morning... so If you are on Intrepid and in Nym Stronghold and you see a fat male twilek dancer there send him an email telling him you are ging to perform for "X" amount of time... I would love to get some combat exp without letting all the people who want mind healing down.
In the evening I will be there dancing and chatting away. Besides, My wife is bugging me to come back to Tatooine. I have a bunch of friends in the cantina there who miss me.

Honestly, if you've read the forums here to any extent, you'd see all kinds of examples of how people treat us with little respect because of all the AFK entertainers. Here's a few of my favorite quotes...
"No, I do not and will not ever tip an enterrainer. Some are crafty and turn off auto AFK. If they are the only ones in the bar I watch/listen to them then leave. To me, they are NPC's that have no need for money."
"A doctor has to take personalized and individual action to heal me. A dancer just has to sit there and leave a macro running. I tip people doing real work, not losers who walk away from their PCs. Enjoy your continued living in cardboard boxes out-back of your favorite dive. Let me know when you get a real job."
So yes, if I'm standing next to an AFK entertainer, I'll probably get more tips. But I believe every entertainer is getting fewer tips across the board because of the general feeling of disgust and even hatred people are feeling towards our profession.
Every day I see people, good entertainers, here and in game, giving up the cantina scene and giving up the profession, and this is one of the primary reasons they clearly list as to why. Given that undeniable proof, you will never ever convince me that this profession is better off with AFK dancing than without.
Again, do whatever you want, just don't expect the respect of your peers when you AFK entertain.

Sorry. One additional comment.
For all of you in the cantina chatting away. Take a look at who is doing most of the chatting. You will see, it is the other entertainers and the medics (God love em :smileywink
. Maybe a few Tailors plying their wares.
Maybe One or two "clients." People see Mind wounds as a burden. Look on the other boards once in a while. You see many threads saying that medics should be able to heal mind wounds in battle and that entertainers should be removed as a class.
Here is the typical scenero: Melee comes in, sits down, watches a person perform,.... then goes to make himself someting to eat in real life.
OK I know im going to get flooded with a tonne of .... OH YEAH .. well you're just a crummy entertainer .. I have a bunch of people that come in and .........." well so do I. I am talking about the average person coming into the cantina to get healed.
Tell me I'm wrong.
It's yet another reason why we're looked down upon, and there have been lots of suggestions on how to make cantinas more interesting and rewarding for non-entertainers.
We have more issues than AFKers, you just touched on another one.

Pickles and Chessack.
I agree with what you are saying. And, yes, I have read the board about the afk problem.
What I am saying is this. Come to Lok and I will gladly leave.
There have been no entertainers on any regular basis on Lok or Dathomir since the game started.
Also, If you do come to Lok. You shold not need any experience because there are not too many people there. But, I have been getting a Lot of tips (2k for an entire evening is a Lot to me) and that makes me feel more appriciated than I have ever felt as an entertainer. During the evenings when I am there chatting with the people that come in, I get "Thank You For Coming here...." And THAT is the reason I stay.
For Once, as an Entertainer, I feel really appriciated.
Oh It seems I have left the impression that I have been doing this since day one ... well ... I HAVE ONLY BEEN THERE FOR TWO DAYS ... Today being the second. And, I will leave soon because I DO NOT LIKE AFK DANCING.
I will go back and dance AFK during the night and monring when at work. Ican make the plane fare in about 10 min if i catch the shuttles right. So, If you want the gig during the peak hours,,,, the dance floor is all yours.
Here is a point for you guys to chew on. Dancing flourishes and effect do not, I repeat DO NOT require any skill to perform or learn. thats right it is an easy profession to advance in all you have to do is invest your time. thats it. The social aspect serves to make friends, generate tips, or find out information in the game. I don't care if you rid yourself of all afk'ers your not going to change the views of others about dancing being an easy profession to advance because it is.
If you want to change how people view the dancing profession you will need to change how experience is awarded, Like perhaps half of your experience having to come from battle camps or something.
flame away.
This "but an AFK macro dancer is better than no dancer at all" argument is getting very worn. What is ignored is the fact that the large number of LAMERs now in the entertainment field has actually driven away many of the better dancers and built up a large reservoir of resentment among the general player community. We don't enjoy going to public cantinas anymore because most of the people there aren't really people, they're bots. I could talk to my refrigerator and get better conversation.
I don't want to make moral judgements on how someone else wishes to play. But I do NOT think that dancing AFK should get you one single shred of XP nor one credit of tips. If you're really there for the benefit of others, let's see how many still do it after SOE finally listens to the rest of us and nerfs AFK xp.
I fully expect that tired old justification to wither away.

Have you seen the HAM bars on most of the pure entertainers? They probably have 50 hit points, since all their HAM went to their Action bars so they can perform longer. Entertainers are NOT supposed to be a combat-related class in any sense -- their purpose is to give purpose to the towns and catinas in the game, where some kind of social center can evolve. We don't want this to end up like EQ, where nobody ever went to the taverns except to buy muffins and milk.
Some of us (myself included) have diversified and branched into combat skills. I can bring my Dance abilities to camp and help my group there, and that's just a plus for us. But it's not and should not be a requirement.
If we want to change how people view the entertainment professions, it's really not that hard. We already give buffs (Master Musicians to focus/willpower, Master Dancers to mind) that is a pretty sizable buff (+50%). The problem is that anyone who /watches or /listens can get it but it takes 10-15 minutes for the buff to get maximum effect, and then only lasts another 30 minutes. If we had that same buff available by targeting and typing a /command, and a duration competitive with doctor buffs, THEN I think you would see a change in perception of entertainers. Because we would actually offer something other players valued.
Sinda.
I would still be there if your conditions were in place. I must say, the "Thank you so much for being here..." comments has made me feel really good about being an entertainer.
I am loosing a tonne of healing experience by not being in the mass Entertainer Groups that grind experience.
And I Chat A lot. My game name is Stuffed Pizza. During the evening, Go to Bestine or Anchorhead on Intrepid and you will see me falling on my butt and chatting away. (Not at night or during the work day .... I have a gig on Lok).
But. If I got No tips... No Exp... No anything. I will still go and dance if I am asked and I feel appricated by my patrons.

so there.

It would still be an easy profession, and people will still view it as a no skill class. As far as adding value we already have value in healing Mind wounds and bf, just because Sony adds an extra ability I don't think it will change anyones view of dancers or musicians. Put them to use in the battle fields at camps, groups paying for their skills (tip problem solved) AFK macro's solved, bordom situation solved.
Now it would be a viable class and respected.
as far as respect goes, don't you think dancers barely dressed performing lap dances adds to the bad treatment of our profession??? Hell your getting all those 1 900 number goons crawling to us bacause 15 bucks a month is cheap compaired to paying the phone bill and they have two hands free.

How do you define easy? From my perspective, it's infinitely more difficult to achieve ANY success as a dancer than as a combat related class. I do both.
Skill really has no meaning at all unless you look at it with regards to success and how you define it. I mean, we're all just sitting at a keyboard pressing buttons, which takes zero skill in and of itself.
In general you are right, there is a perception problem with entertainers, but for anyone who says it's easy to be a dancer...it's easy to dance and press buttons to flourish. If that is what you think this profession is about and how we measure success, you missed the point.
I suppose you think an architect is a no-skill class too? I mean there's no skill really in clicking keys to combine items over and over again...
That's a very combat-centric view.

I agree with Nobus.
Medics are on the battle field doing double duty... they fight and watch the entire battle to see who needs healing.
We are in acantina, safe and sound, dancing.

I have only a bit more to go to fill up the novice Carbineer box. And two boxes to go to get CH.
But, I consider myself a dancer. It is the thing I love the most. Well, my Ranger was a lot of fun. But the Lowca server is Soooo bad.
I really enjoy chatting.
Also, I have made a really cool dance macro with a sword and the formal dance. It looks like a kung Fu exercise (kata).
But. As Long As People are Saying "Thank you.... " I will continue to AFK on LOK. (Unless I am convinced to go to a more difficult planet)
