Thread: this has probly been said a million times but we need more dances for males
I can agree with the basic premise that it might be nice with more male dances. But, I guess my question is, what kind of masculine dance would you like? I personally can't think of anything off the top of my head that qualifies as a distinctly "male" dance.
Having said that, I am a male dancer and I actually enjoy doing all of the dances that some people think are feminine. Poplock is probably my least favorite dance, actually. I dunno, I think my male Twi'lek looks pretty hot doing some of those dances...and in a very masculine way.

I laugh at the "ballet was origionaly made for men" arguement because ballet has evolved a great deal even in the past 100 years.
I've seen people dancing ballet in the cantinas, and I can tell you right now that many of the techniques in thoses dances are done by woman and not men irl. In real ballet, men and woman dance very differently. Thee basic idea is the same, grace, turn out, extension, posing. However, there are many moves that men do and woman dont and visa versa.

Thank you, that was my only point and you said it much better than I did.
Drygo - Male dancing examples from current rl can be seen in hip hop andlatin clubs in the west. I tend to stick to punk/industrial/old wave clubs now, but male dancing tends to be more powerful (and maybe less fluid?) than female dancing even there. I haven't had a dance theory class in ages, but I think if you had to look at one common separator throughout all styles of dance, men are commonly more anchored and solid (with bursts of power) and women are more ornamental and flowy... er, or something.
- In house pumping techno gay clubs the cutie shirtless gym bunnies grinding on each other still look very much male, not like women at all.
- We don't have separate animations for males and females... there are styles and moves that will look the same whether a male or female is doing them, most of ours look like female moves though.
I don't think dancing is a sex or sexually orientated thing, but I do think that women's bodies tend to move like a female and male's like a male. ![]()
I can agree, in this day and age in the Western world males generally tend to be a bit insecure about their masculinity, from peer pressure. I enjoy all the dances as a male dancer IG, with lyrical by far my favorite. Popular is also one I enjoy..poplock scares me... =P
I do dance exotic regularly, and I enjoy it, because I have fun when I'm playing. When people say "ur gay omg!" I just /wink and /lick and they generally leave. If they /duel me I just /denyservice to them. I can care less what others think of me because it doesn't matter. Only the opinions who I care about, and know they are being openly honest do I heed their critique. Dancing isn't so much about style or gender, it's about the old saying: "dance like nobody's watching."
Dance to the rhythm of your heart, sing to the melody of your soul!
I've also heard that they recently (a month or two ago) motion-captured male dancers and are going to revamp all the dances sometime, notably the high-end dances for males and females. This is just word of mouth from a decently reliable source though, so take it as it's worth.

I think it looks awesome when the men do the exotics. I guess some people don't like it, but I personally do. Especially if they are Zabrak... and shirtless...![]()
