Dancer Archive
Thread: this has probly been said a million times but we need more dances for males
Then just do poplock, and go back and find those millions of other posts talking about it. Formal and Lyrical are styles of ballet, which was originally performed by MALES.
Maybe you should just get secure in your masculinity and suck it up? They really aren't that bad. If we get more dances "for males," people will want more dances "for females," in which point the males will cry and demand more dances and it's an endless cycle. If you don't like the dances, I suggest jumping to Musician.

Other than the robot dance, males look ridiculous dancing. Even my wife laughed at me when I was doing entertainer dancing.

NERF THE WOMEN!!!!
We don't know about the new anims, maybe they will be more, uh, butch.
I'm a little surprised by this response, I know we've all been screaming for male dancer specific love for a while. Oh, and the ballet being male comments... yes, it was started as a male dance, but this is not the same kind of ballet we know now. It was a lot closer to court dancing I think. Male dancers are so worshipped in modern ballet now because they are not only so powerful and awesome to watch, but also because they are a rarity. Choreography has spent most of it's time on female roles for centuries now, male parts are reserved for special ballet "high lights".
Way too wordy but, stop trying to pass off ballet as a _male_ thing, it hasn't been since way back when _everything_ was male only.
It's seen only as a female thing because that's how people choose to see it, and because that's how it's been pushed, but it's not true. Maybe men just need to step up and start getting more secure in themselves and their masculinity.
....as if THAT will ever happen. Men still do Ballet. They do modern Ballet, to boot.
So stop trying to push that ballet isn't male thing, yourself, because males still do it, rare or not, and it's not completely all that rare. Maybe in America it is. But America never has been that smart of a country, and I live here.
Gymnastics could be considered a female-only sport, does that make male gymnasts any more or less special or rare or less masculine?
So thank you, Ballet still IS a "male" thing as much as it is a "female" thing. It just takes a male braver than your average Joe. And maybe that's what puts them aside from the rest, they're braver, more secure in themselves, and more willing to go out and do what idiots have decided to term "female only" or "not straight" or "not masculine" and go into a field that may be looked at or considered as "female only."
It's sexist for anyone to think one field, dance, etc should be done by only one or the other when in reality it can be done by either and be just as beautiful. I think I look good doing the so-called "female" or "feminin" dances. I've seen many guys look good doing them. I've seen guys who enjoy doing them, too. And like whoa, not all of them were gay or remotely so.
So you'll pardon me if I'm sick of hearing people b and moan about the dances. They can always be a musician instead. If there are more so-called "butch" dances coming, fine. As long as they don't touch the current ones, I'm happy. I don't want to see a "butch" version of each dance that guys are "forced" to do, while women have their own way of doing it, because I don't think that's how it should be. And if there is an influx of seperate dances, which are more "butch," then people won't be happy because we'll start seeing people wanting even more dances that are more "female," in which case we'll get those and then the guys who wanted more "butch" dances will turn and cry for more.
Let what comes come. At least it'll be something more than what we've gotten, if we ever get it.
Oh, and mind you...just because they have a male model doesn't mean the dances will be more butch, let's not raise false hopes. It can simply mean they want to mo-cap the new dances on the male form, see how they look with the male form, etc. Probably not any different than was done with the original dances.
