Bleh.. ignore the spelling on my last post lol
An edit button would be lovely right about now ![]()
Oh and Flawed.. we are on the same server.. I would love to see this guide. Maybe we could swap ideas ![]()
Character name is Rhapsody
Naboo - Theed
Flawed,
What days/times do you usually dance? I'd love to come watch and learn, and if I can get a character created on Eclipse, I will ![]()
Micara
Chilastra
Actually, Anubis, all true artistic forms of dance and martial arts center on using the body as the medium to express a concept. Martial Arts these days, however, are less and less "art" and more and more "martial" in nature, but some of the oldest martial arts were also about expression, at least as much as artistic dancing is.
In any case, I'd like to see you create this guide, Diamond. I did tahitian/hawaiian/polynesian dancing for a while myself, as well as a bit of Latin dancing, so I know a *little* bit about the art of erotic dancing, although neither of those are quite bellydancing ![]()
News flash, all dancing is sexual in nature. Some more so than others...
I would LOVEto see the kind of script that you run FD! At the very least it would give alot of us some ideas and understanding into creating our own unique dance routines.
Baladi is often refered to as Erotic Dance because of its very nature. It was created as a celebration of Life and the power a woman has to grant life to a child. The moves of a "belly dancer" are specifically designed to draw attention to the mid-drift area of a woman. It is about child birth.. not a fling in the sack for 20 bucks you moron!
Hear hear! That's what I was trying to get at, though not nearly as effectively as you did, Caari.
In fact, dance has always been about self-expression since the first day hunters re-enacted their hunt around the camp fire. Dance is used to tell stories, evoke emotion, and express art. Simply because a few regressive, socially-inhibited rubes don't know their ancient or medieval history doesn't make the art form any less of an art form.
And I love the idea of sword dancing! Why not let females do it as well, and just have slight variations in the flourishes depending on genders? Are we wishing for too much?
A weaponsmith friend of mine has been asking me to swing one of his big 2h axes around while I dance. While it might intimidate potential tippers, I'm leaning toward trying it just for the looks
There IS some sword dance of a limited style. Try Poplock with a sword and use flourishes 1-4 with it. Some of the moves provide some nice sword movement and can be impressive. Limited? Yes. But the suggestion is there at least.
And I agree that male dancing is really lacking and limited. But then we had GUYS doing the design. Laugh. So WE got he short end of the stick as far as dancing to watch.
I become VERY testy with guys who get crude and explict. Licks get my sword in response with 'Honey you'll be kind of Useless after you LOOSE that tongue.' and a Laugh.
Ones that get VERY crude with talk about their SIZE and such get publically humiliated. 'Hey eiloo can I borrow your tweezers. XXX wants to show me something.' or 'Sorry hon. Size DOES matter and you just DON'T measure up.'
Sometimes I have to get MORE direct and say to another Dancer something like " Hey eiloo ever notice how the guys with the LEAST to offer always brag the loudest?'
I don't HESITATE to publically humiliate someone who becomes crude, unruly and rude with me. Rather than get Angry at them I try to make people LAUGH at them. That is usually the strongest deterrant.
I don't hesitate to become MEAN if necessary. 'Hon does your mother KNOW you're sitting there making rude sexual comments to adult Women? She'd prolly take your computer away if she caught you.' I'll drop out of character if necessary and talk DIRECTLY to the person at the keyboard.
The GOAL is to get the message out to OTHERS that I will NOT tolerate such behavior. It doesn't take long for word to get around.

Hmm...actually, no. All martial arts developed as fighting techniques (remember, they may becalled "martial arts" in English, but not so in their native language. In Japanese, for example, they are "bujutsu", which translates as "fighting tecnique"). With the passage of time, they become stylized. Aspects of "zen" or "tao" get assigned to them, which were not there originally.
Recent trends have been to strip off the artifice and pomposity and return the martial arts to their true nature.

Reachwind,
I pity you. You're missing out on so much of life. Dancing because music moves you, dancing from happiness, dancing with energy. Your comment reminds me of my parents, who think of dancing as a mating ritual. Haven't you ever heard a song so good, so uplifting, that you just get up and dance?
I can't believe that people dancing at punk shows are being in any way "sexual".
I can't believe that people dancing to goa under the morning sun are being in any way "sexual".
I can't believe that people dancing to They Might Be Giants are being in any way "sexual".
Don't get me wrong, there's nothing wrong with sexuality in dancing. But regarding all dancing as sexual seems like such a waste. Like a man saying "All relationships with women are sexual, some more than others".

for every 1 person that will use this dance elegantly 15 will prance around in their underwear.
So sad, but so very very true.

All the lower level dances are just plain icky to watch, but I was watching Emmett dancing Lyrical in an Infiltrator Suit last night and it was certainly a feast for the eyes. Yum.I haven't seen a male Exotic dancer yet, I'm not holding out much hope that it will look as good, but a girl's gotta have dreams...
