From the sounds of your problems, in my humble opinion it sounds like your video card may not have Texture and Lighting capabilities. And some (even though the new "drivers" say the work) won't work. What kind of video card are you currently running for SWG? When I first started playing SWG I had a Radeon 7000 which does not have T&L and I was forced to upgrade (thank god) to a GeForce5. Also, my performance was lacking until I upgraded to the recommended 512 (and I'd recommend 1G). Anyhow, check your video card not just the driver itself.

Folks I appreciate all the suggestions but I've tried all of those and a lot more. Like rolling back every hardware driver through the 3 or 4 previous versions and trying all possible combinations of driver versions with different hardware.

Same with all possible combinations of variations in graphics settings in the game using all hardware sets and driver variations on 3 different video cards and 4 different network cards. As well as 5 different ram configurations.

I've mapped all possible variables that can be changed in my system and EXCEPT for replacing the motherboard and CPU I've tried them. Took OVER 20 hrs of work to map all the combos and then test them all. Got through all those setting and try working out the possible combinations. You'll find its a LOT. Laugh!

Plus reinstalled XP starting from clean copy and working back up through SP1 with and W/O all MS updates and with the last 4 versions of Directx. As well as duplicating the combination matrices from above at each step of the rebuild of the OS.

And reinstalled the client under a number of varying optional configuration on System drive, IDE drives using Fat and NTFS partition plus on scsi drives using both partition type and discrete as well as spanned partitions.

Having to go out and spend a couple hundred dollars on a new MB and CPU to play a game is not a reasonable option. And quite honestly I have NO FAITH whatsoever that replacing the MB and CPU will fix the problem. I'm pretty well convinced it is a problem on the database end over which I have no control.

And I see no real effort on SOE's part of fix the problem. Far as I'm concerned at this point, the onus is in their court not mine. I've made MORE than a reasonable effort to make the software work.

I SOLD my computer busines so I would NOT have to do this kind of stuff anymore. LOL

Well, that pretty much answers all my questions. I'm sorry to see you go. Discounting the hijacking, I was enjoying the erotic thread...

No joy.

Logged to Ahazi and within 30 secs crashed like normal.

Our subscription runs till early October. I'll keep trying it every few days. but at this point I don't really have any serious belief or hope that its going to be fixed.

I may drop in here occasionally but doubt I'll be posting much since with the new update I'm completely out of touch with the new things going on so nothing I have to say would be of much import.

Best of luck to everyone and I really enjoyed playing with all of you, more than I can express.

Never had any problems with crashing myself, unless the server goes down I never get booted. Sorry to hear your having trouble. What message does it give you when you get booted? Or does it give any? Only person I know of thats had trouble with getting booted was due to a virus.

hmmm. heres what i run swg on and get no problems and slight lag. but of course gfx are turned down alot (and the game still looks good).

1ghz celeron

384 mb pc-133 ram

ati radeon 9000pro 64mb

786/128 adsl

with everything updated and the gfx set low i have ran swg for 36 straight hours used a talking macro to test it out in a remote area.

only thing i can think of about your pc is your cpu could be overheating from all that rebooting and shuting down you did while testing. try replacing your heat sink/fan combo or cooling system. overheating is a comman problem thats often overlooked. i got a nice volcano 9 on my celeron and temp never goes over 91f.

Sorry, forgot to mention in the previous list I run my system in a 7 fan, dual power supply server case I ended up with when I sold my computer business. It also has a liquid cooling system for the cpu. The cpu temp stays basically at room temp which here is around mid 70's.

And I had NO problem with the game at all due to crashes until 2-3- weeks ago. I was running fine and had played all morning and afternoon. I stopped for dinner. When I came back there was a client patch. When I logged back on I crashed within 3-4 minutes. Been that way ever since that patch. Nothing had changed in my machine for several weeks before that. Before that patch, no problem. After that patch haven't been able to play for than a minute or two.

I mentioned my friend who had not been able to stay connected -- she tried posting on the Tech Support board to no avail. But she did have some success calling the Sony Tech Support line. Have you called them?

I know it can be frustrating - I manage an inbound call center myself, and we hear it all -- but maybe with a little bit of perseverance you can get a tech on the line who actually knows what they're talking about and help you get it resolved?

At this point I'm just afraid for all of the good players I see leaving SWG. It's a bug-fest right now and has more than its share of problems, but in my long years of MMRPG experience I also think I see enough potential here (no small part of which is the role of entertainers) that I'm hoping it survives long enough to get right. That survival depends on keeping good players like Flawed in the game.

Well, as a last ditch experiment - What about what Sinda mentioned earlier? What happens when you make a new character on a different server?

I, too, am playing SWG on a totally bizarre and unsupported system set-up that is nothing at all like the Recommended System Requirements as stated on the game box. Does anyone know why I might be having difficulties? It must be a problem on Sony's end, because I've tried nothing and I'm all out of ideas.

Aye.

Post your full system specs here. Yes we all understand you are an expert and have done everything you can think of, but sometimes when you are immersed in a problem you can't see the forest for the trees.

Let some of us who are totally unfamiliar with your problem but equally well versed in situations like this take a look at things and see if we can think outside the box perhaps better than someone who has been living hip-deep in the problem for a fortnight.

What's the worst that can happen? We'll be unable to think of anything.

I spent an hour on the phone to finally get through to tech Support. Their suggestion? make sure my graphics drivers were up to date. Once I started telling em the things they I had tried they said 'Well sounds like you need to get a new machine.'

LOL!!!

Bleh...

You could still post your specs here. Some of us may have more of a clue than those guys apparently do.
