Thread: Well the big day HAS come and we'll see whether I keep playing or just give up.

Since I've been unable to play for over 2 weeks now because of the crashes a few seconds or minutes after I log in I've waited patiently for some resolution from SOE.

They neither fixed the problem nor even ackowledged that it was happening. Other than generalized form letters saying to check my drivers and be sure they were up to date I've gotten no response whatsoever on the problem. We decided to wait for this patch to see if it corrects the problem to at least a manageable level. I can handle crashes every 20-30 mins but when I spend more time in the loading process than I do in game that's not manageable.

After the patch goes through and we can log back on I'll do one of two things.

1. Play

2. Drop in here to say goodbye.

Wish me luck!

Flawed,

Maybe you should check your system. I've played for over 8 hours straight with no issues. I mean sometimes it is on ourside.

Hon I was in the computer business from 1975 when the first apple came out until just a couple years ago when I sold my computer business. I WROTE some of the drivers in common use today.

I've have replaced and swapped out Every component of my system except the MB and CPU. I have spent hours with a protocol analyzer hooked up to the network trying to find a variance between the packets from my system and from His system which works fine. I've sunk over 30 hours of hardcore work into diagnosing any possible problem on this end.

If it requires THAT much work to play I'll pass. At this point the balls in their court.

No joy.

Logged to Ahazi and within 30 secs crashed like normal.

Our subscription runs till early October. I'll keep trying it every few days. but at this point I don't really have any serious belief or hope that its going to be fixed.

I may drop in here occasionally but doubt I'll be posting much since with the new update I'm completely out of touch with the new things going on so nothing I have to say would be of much import.

Best of luck to everyone and I really enjoyed playing with all of you, more than I can express.

Sounds like you've tried just about everything. One thing I don't recall from the previous posts on this subject (so I'll apologize if it's on your list of attempted fixes)- Have you tried swapping your RAM out? If you've got two simms, reverse them. Alternatively, if your husband's computer uses the same kind of RAM, try swapping his RAM for yours. If his computer starts crashing (or yours just stops crashing) then you can reasonably assume you've got a bad stick.

For that matter, if your computers are reasonably similar, you could get wacky and swap the hard drives. If your OS runs fine in your husband's case then you know you've got a hardware problem. If it continues to crash then you know you've got a software problem. Odds are they're different enough that this wouldn't really work but it would be interesting to see the results.

Anyway, sorry to hear you're having so much trouble.

One other suggestion (you've likely tried this but without clairvoyance it seems prudent to suggest it, heh) -

There are graphics options on the startup launcher that are different from the options on the options screen in-game. Even if you didn't change these options, it's always possible that the patch itself somehow modified them. Bring up the launchers on both computers, login, then choose options. Compare the values on all of the tabs on both machines. Most likely, they're the same but it only takes a couple of minutes to verify.

How about you post your full system specs here and we all take a look at it? Maybe something will jump out at one of us that you have not though of yet. Sometimes it takes a person not immersed in a problem to see a solution.

Just a thought.

Flawed -

I don't know if this is related, but one of my friends on Chilastra had a very similar problem. She could not log in with her dancer and stay connected for more than a few seconds before crashing.

She managed to log in on other servers just fine, leading us to think it may have been a corrupted character.

It took SOE about 2 weeks to get to the bottom of it. They told her they had about 1,000 other players with the same problem, so they were eager to find a fix.

They ultimately got it working, but I have no idea how. So my guess is either you have a corruption issue (possibly even on the server side, knowing Oracle) or you might have gotten bit by the W32.blaster.worm virus?

It is possible you've been infected by some sort of virus, worm, or other nasty. There's a particularly bad one, as noted above, that affects all OS with the Win NT core files (Win NT, Win 2k, Win XP) and causes repeated crashes when you're connected to the internet.

Flawed,

I'm not doubting your ability as a technician, but have you tried the obvious and reinstalled the client?
