Thread: Novice Medic vs Master Dancer (TIPS)
Because clothing, in it's current non-decaying state, means nothing.
If you had to buy a particular article of clothing simply to perform a specific dance then you only had to make the one-time purchase, as opposed to the continual credit drain other crafting/healing profession endure.
"Because clothing, in it's current non-decaying state, means nothing. "
Are you saying that instruments, in their current non-decaying state, mean more? I agree that clothing needs to decay, but the fact that clothing is currentlybugged is not a valid reason for arguing against a positive change. Even with non-decaying clothing, this proposal would still make dancing a profession which would at leastdemand some kind of monetaryoutlay. At present it doesn't, and that's why dancing is regarded by some as a no-risk profession.
Wether that purchase be made by a Musician of instruments, or a Dancer of clothing. It's still the same one-time purchase.
btw Beery, on a side not, Is this a personal thing, or do you really just dislike what I say?
I have experienced this exact same scenario many times. there are several things which could be done to fix this problem to give value to entertainers. The problem is that within the mechanics of the game entertainers have almost no value. Improve the mechanic and we will hve value.
1. Increase the rates that battle fatigue and mind wounds occur.
2. Lower the healing rate of battle fatigue in cantinas.
3. Lower the healing rates of all entertainers. At the current settings I am only half way up the healing tree in dancing and I heal all but the worst cases in a couple of minutes. This will also help can all of the players who buy novice entertainer because they healdisproportionately when compared toa master elite.
"Wether that purchase be made by a Musician of instruments, or a Dancer of clothing. It's still the same one-time purchase."
The fact that one-time purchases are less costly over time is completely irrelevant to the point I was making. If you want to complain that clothing and instruments should decay, I'm with you, but this ain't the thread in whichto do it. Your point is tangential at best, and distracting at worst.
I then said that it probably wouldn't work, you asked for an explanation, I gave one, and now you're calling me for being off-tangent?
Right.

I would have no problem with what you say if you had phrased it in a way that was constructive. But you chose to simply contradict my idea without giving any alternative. Added to that, you're arguing against an idea that wouldd make entertainment healing cost the entertainer something by saying that it's not a 'real' cost. Erm... are you saying that you'd prefer entertainers to have NO outlay at all??? That's what it sounds like you're arguing for. I'm suggesting that clothing, jewelry, etc.should decay, and that aclothing or jewelry purchase should be a prerequisite for certain healing strengths. You are arguing that it's a bad idea because clothing doesn't decay. You're arguing from an illogical standpoint. You want dancers to have an outlay, but you don't seem to want to accept any ideas that would make that happen. It seems to me that you aren't willing to accept any solution to the problem. Why is that?

Hey that gives me an idea - what if dancers had to buy certain dancing clothes in order to do certain dances? That would put paid to the idea that we don't have to buy anything in order to ply our trade.
I would prefer not to go that route because I do not want to be forced to wear standard outfits. I like to be able to change my clothes as the mood hits me. And dance a dance as a mood hits me.

nah, entertainers just need toeschew cantinas that are packed with other entertainers and stay in the sametown so that the locals get to know them
I have a mule char on a second account that is a musican/doctor and her musician tips are more than enough to cover things
also note: my interaction with other players rarely exceeds a /wel while targeting them, a simple compliment or inquerry as to their well being, and a /wave when they leave. so you do not need to flirt or whore yourself to get tips

I agree with you. How about jewelry then? Usually it's hard to see, and it doesn't affect your choice of clothes.
I also vary my jewelry
since tailoring is my second profession.
I am not sure if there is an item I would like to have to buy in order to perform. Nor am I that sure that people would tip because we have to buy an item to perform.
