Thread: Novice Medic vs Master Dancer (TIPS)
So, I'm out in Wayfar last night, and as usual, I'm the only entertainer in town. I'm a master dancer... and I'm a novice medic, healing people with "A" packs.
Now, these wound packs take roughly 2 resources per heal. Healing 400 points of wounds takes around 40 resources... Maybe 100 credits in cost if I buy the stuff from the bazaar.
So, I dance for someone in the cantina, bada-bing, bada-boom, I heal 100 mind wounds and 350 battle fatigue... it takes me about 3 minutes. (Use /diagnose on them to peak). I get tipped 100 credits.
The person heads to the medical center, I follow as there are no other people in the cantina. I heal ~200 points of wounds. It takes me around3 minutes. I get tipped 3000 credits.
After I finish this person, I heal another one sitting in the medical center. The tip was 1000 credits after healing around 120 points of wounds.I follow her to the cantina, and dance, finishing off her mind wounds and BF. No tip.
So I continue this back and forward journey from the medical center to the cantina and back. Almost constantly healing people. The tips for the medical healing were always 5-10 times higher (and I always got tippped for the medical healing).
I was always chatting my customer while dancing. In the medical center I spent most of my time making more stimpack and wound packs for later use.
WHY is the entertainer healing deemed so less important? I can understand a SLIGHTLY higher tip for medic... to cover the cost of the resources. But 10 times? That's insane.
Since you brought an RL comparison in...
TV and Radio don't count. You'd pay to get into a club(cantina) and see the live entertainment there. You'd pay to get into a play or broadway show and see the live entertainment there as well. You'd pay to go to a concert and see that live entertainment. And in some clubs, not only have you paid to get in, but you TIP the entertainment in the club as well. And mind you, I'm not talking about a strip joint. ^.^
Doctor/dancer here.
First incident is mostly due to the fact that you are using comsumable which costs credits to heal their wounds. Everyone knows both professions has its credits costs, but medics do spend a lot more credits per heal than entertainers. Think as this way, you have a a gown, and you have to use its , lets say 1/20, usage points per everytime you heal someone mind/bf. That would probably make them may somewhat a more similar tips they pay to medics. If entertainers healing had some comsumable per heal, probably they would tip higher.
The second incident where you healed the person in the med center than danced at cantina happens mostly because they feel they already payed one flat fee for both type of services.
This is an honest look, being doctor/dancer.
Also I suggest not persuing Doctor/entertainer. You will be broke most of times.

Err I mean pay, not may.

You seem to be suggesting that these careers are pointless in the game. If we can't make a living pursuing them, why do they exist at all?
Apologies for posting to a professional area I do not belong in. I'm a doctor and not a dancer at all.
The doctor's viewpoint: man I would LOVE to see those levels of tips regularly. You can peruse the doctor's area and see the moans about lack of tips, the costs of medicines, etc. I am not sure if this was a specific instance or a common occurance, but if it is, your server tips a lot better than mine does for medical services.
Because I have been burned so often in the med center, using 100's of cr worth of meds and my entire mind, only to get not even a thank-you, I always tip in the cantina. Heck, I even tip when I am there solely to gain xp from stims.
I always enjoy reading the other professional boards. It reminds me that every prof feels persecuted too. Don't get me started on my foray into BE ... lol.
I had a completely opposite experience. Back when I hit Novice Doctor, I decided to pick up novice entertainer and try my hand at musician. I found that, while playing music, I made more in tips then I did as a Novice Doc in the MedCenter.
Now I don't bother with either, cantina or medcenter, since I've gotten to Doc. Tips just don't pay the bills...
