I saw people doing it while I was leveling dancer. I had no idea what was going on at first, but I was grateful for the healing xp.

All I'm saying is that Sony gave us the command /activateclone for a reason, and I have yet to understand exactly what the intent of the commandmay be. I know what it does, but whatutility was it inteded to give us as players?Because they just as well could have left it out. If we understand what the intent of the command was, then we can understand what is a proper and improper use of it may be.

Originally it was designed as a suicide command, which is very useful. Sometimes people get stuck and would rather suicide than wait for a GM to help. At first, I believe it worked properly. It would kill you and you'd wake up at the cloning center with the proper wounds.

At some point it was broken and now it 'kills you' so you get the wounds, but you don't get the trip to the cloning center.

It probably wasn't deemed very critical to fix given that not many people want to rack up wounds, but once people discovered the benefit it could give to entertainers and healers, the exploit was born.

Use it at your own risk. It's an exploit, and they know about it. They would have every right to ban people who take advantage of it, should they choose to.

Oh, I see Pickles. It makes sense now what the deal is with it. I never personally had to use it.

The government lets us have guns...shooting people must be legal!

If the ONLY thing 'wrong' with it is that it isn't sending you to the clone center then how much of an exploit is it, really? Put yourself on Endor, Research outpost. The clone center is like 25 meters from the cantina. You could commit suicide "legitimately" (i.e. not as an exploit), and walk back into the cantina in 10 seconds, get healed, do it again... lather/rinse/repeat. If they do not want people using it in this fashion they need to re-code it.

There are two very simple fixes for this. (1) Only allow it to work if you are more than 2000 or so meters from a clone center. This fixes the "I am stuck in the wilderness and don't want to wait" problem while ensuring that you can't die-clone-die-clone every 10 seconds. Or (2) only allow people to use it once an hour or something.

See Chessack, the exploit part of this is that you're doing it over and over for the sole purpose of helping an entertainer get Ent xp. I'm sure the entertainers appreciate it, but it may still get you banned.

And as for them not wanting people to use it so they better re-code it.... Um, they are. Read the patch notes for the next Publish

Well, there's also the issue of now there's an additional penalty to dying in the form of insurance and wear and tear on equipment. But even that can be circumvented by throwing stuff in the bank first.

Even if you put a time limit on it, it's really not much different than attacking an NPC in that area and dying that way over and over again. Really nothing they can do about that.

I think, however, if they implemented it properly such that it gave wounds, put you in the cloning center and treated it like a real death with wear and tear and such, people wouldn't be so inclined to do it.

Even before this command was discovered, people could have killed themselves over and over again in order to provide healing to entertainers, but I don't recall them doing so. Why, I cannot say, maybe it was just too inconvenient.

Before the insurance thing came back into the picture, I remember that one of my good friends was going Combat Medic. She asked over the guild chat if anyone wanted to come duel her, so she could get some healing xp. It turned into a duel/db session with several of the guild members. I was nearby, so I headed into the cantina and started racking up the Entertainer Healing XP. It was a fun event actually, and we had people helping both the CM out and the Dancer. Gah, this would have been way back in September too. I know that it was very uncommon thing too because people normally just didn't want to die.

The reason people use /activateclone, rather than running around getting killed manually, is because /activateclone can be afk-macroed.

Well, it is clearly a bug. (If you don't believe that, then why are they fixing it?) And by definition, exploiting is using a bug to your advantage. Even the ID thing was an exploit, by definition. Not one they cared much more about than fixing it, but it was.

Game breaking though? Personally, people getting into the geo caves wasn't gamebreaking to me. And I'm sure their guild mates were grateful for the cool weapons, right? It's a case of people using bugs to gain advancement over others. Yet somehow breaking into the geo caves is not OK, but creating artificial wounds faster than any legitimate tactic (Yes, it is faster by an order of magnitute) is? It kind of puts people who try and maintain a moral stance at an extreme disadvantage.

Though.. All that aside, not all bugs are what they seem. Something that on the surface could look harmless, could in other circumstances fall squarely within even the most stringent definition of an exploit as "something that gives a player a COMBAT advantage over another player they didn't earn". (Though most the people who scream exploit ignore the last 3 words.) Jut because you don't see it hurting someone, it doesn't mean it isn't.

Edit: Erm... Okay, so I got backwards which exploit was considered OK and which wasn't in the first posting..
