Thread: activate clone
When we were testing this on Test Center, I know a few people managed to get stuck incapacitated until a dev freed them. And trying to explain how it happened to a CSR would probably be rather uncomfortable
Well, to answer a question or two
/activateclone, as I understand it, is only supposed to work when you are stuck dead or trapped in a wall or something. Using it in either or those situations *does* send you to the cloning center. This was added back in beta. The idea was you could use this command to kill yourself and send you to the cloning center, thus freeing yourself from the perma-trapped state.
The exploit is there is a way to do /activateclone without being incapped or already dead. Because you aren't in either of those states, the game doesn't know what to do, so it just clones you right there where you are standing. You have to do some very specific stuff to make this work, and its just exploiting an unknown bug in the command.
The fix on test center that will be put live just makes sure that you can only use activateclone in the states you were originally intended to use it(i.e. as an all else fails if /eject or /unstick does free you from a location you are stuck at or if you are stuck dead).
Hope that clears up why this is an exploit of a command, its because its using a bug in the command over and over again...the command normally does send you to the cloning center when used as its supposed to be.
