hey beery, rewatch the stars wars 4, 5, 6. dancers were treated like second class citizens. honestly, if you feel this strongly about not getting a thanks, then maybe you should just drop the dancing/entertainer profession because it seems to me you are just a little bit high strung and a little too emotional for this class. "hey beery, rewatch the stars wars 4, 5, 6. dancers were treated like second class citizens."

The dancers portrayed in Star Wars were mostly Jabba'sslaves - of course they were treated as second-class citizens, We aren't slaves.

I think it's a bit sad that the only argument you can come up with is an ad hominem attack. If you honestlythink that wanting to be acknowledged in some small way for providing a service is evidence of too much emotionality and a highly-strung personality, you have serious psychological or emotionalissues. I'm not sure what planet you're from, but we humans tend to enjoy getting positive feedback for a job well done.

Well I got so angry about the lack of respect that I haven't danced since I posted the original message in this threadyesterday. I still go to cantinas to chat, to help entertainers level up, and to help medics and doctors get XP for their careers, but I'm fed up of healing the "L33t DuDeZ"people who refuse to even acknowledge my existence, so I'm just not going to dance for those people anymore. It's not like I need the XP, andI may as well take scouting missions to make $$rather than the sick joke entertainer missions.

Today I sat idly byin a cantina and watched a novice entertainer heal 2 wounded PvP-ers. Their heals must have taken 3 or 4 times as long as they would have if I had danced for them. After they'd finished they never even thanked the dancer for the heals she gave - they just walked out. This attitude is what sickens me. Not only do they treat the entertainers like dirt, but they haven't even bothered to work out the simple fact that they get healed faster by a Master, so they didn't even bother to ask if I would dance for them.

All-in-all, I feel that in its current state, dancing as a career is pointless. There is no respect for it, there's no money in it, and those who need the cantinas most have such disrespect for the entertainerprofessions that theycan't even be bothered to figure out how they can get the best use out of them.

I have a skill - if I'm not gonna be paid for it I should at least bethanked for it. If I'm not, then why the heck should I let the ingrates benefit from it?

Beery -- what server are you on and what venue/town?

It seems like you are surrounded by people several orders of magnitude more rude than anything I have encountered. Sure I have seen some twerps but overall most of the players at least say thank you to me.

If I'm the only one there, I don't dance. Requires them asking me to do something for them. Those who show no appreciated get added to my /permadenyservice list. (a macro so i can hit it everytime i log in thus making it a permanent list).

Common courtesy is not to be forgotten. I'm happy with a /tip or /thank but do one or the other. No appreciation = no service

Well i will be honest here. I xall Mos Espa home on the Tarquinas server and I will be honest when I say that business is dead there lately. So i have been forced to go to the theed cantina just to be able to level. However, most dancers there go AFK because of the lack of social interaction in that cantina. i mean the place is crowded and whenever you try and say hi to another player they dont even acknowledge you!

How is this supposed to make dancers care enough to actually stay at the keyboard when no one that plays anything else gives a poop? So, I just set my macro up and go talk to my friends through tells and when i get VERY bored, usually 3 hours later lol, I go hunting to make my money and buy more outfits. Though for the life of me i dont know why. It's like no one gives a crap about us dancers so as far as they are concerned we can all dance nekkid and they wouldnt even notice. but i love to dance and when my dancer friends and I get together and make band flourishes i have a trip so i stay on and dance. When i need my socializing fix i go back home to espa and socialize there in that cantina if there is someone there. if not we all go hang out at the Golden Dragon on tattoine and just talk and jjoke around and go on tusken raids. I am the heavy socializer type so that is why i dance, it's just a shame that no other "class" thinks of us as nicely as we do about them sometimes.

EGAD!!! I fell again!

I understand.

However, asking them to tip, acknowledge, or RP with you amounts (I have been told on another thread) to be a "roleplay nazi." Of course, the people who do this (don't bother to interact) are the first to whine and complain if the dancers are not there.

To be fair I'm not sure I want them to RP with me. Most of them can't do it very well and it probably isn't worth it. But the idea that even ASKING for it is out of bounds, and makes me a "nazi", while them asking me to dance for them is not only OK, but something I am expected to do... seems a little off.

*grin* If you're the only dancer. Have a seat, wait for people to come in... Let them ask for a dancer (ask... not demand). Or tease them, "I'll bet you'd like me to dance for you"...

Have fun with it. Play around... change your title to novice entertainer for a bit, then dance exotic4

Ok I seem to be having a problem. What exactly are the customers expecting for their tips? Had something come up today. Had the same customer come in about 12 times. We had talked about cloths because I used his clothing vendor...nice clothes btw but soz I wandered. Bought a lovely gown which i had on when he came in the first time. Got kind of worried when he tipped me really well everytime he came. Thought maybe he was being generous so i would send customers his way. Later was chatting to ppl I have known for awhile. He sent me a private message ' so i guess healers get all your attention not the big tippers'. He then went afk by me. Think in all the tips added up to 5k. I am going to return it all to him tomorrow when I get on as just had a weird feeling. If they tip big does that mean they own us? Have known these other players for weeks and him only two days. Arg I dont understand the mans mind I guess. Any hints..ideas appreciated.

The vast majority of people don't realise what they're tipping for. Here are the reasons most people seem to give for tipping:

1. If the entertainerspeaks to me.

2. If they smile.

3. If they flirt.

4. If they're not AFK.

5. If they put on a good show (meaning if they've choreographed a macro to enhance the viewing experience).

6. If they're wearing sexy clothes.

7. If they perform a special show for me.

The sad thing is, none of those are reasons to tip. A tip should be given for service (meaning a heal). The heavier the damage and thefaster the heal, the bigger the tip should be - better service should equal more money. Anything extra to the heal (the smile, the wink, flirting, the conversation, the art of the show, the attractiveness of the clothing) is a free gift, given at the entertainer's discretion. No one should expect these optional extras, and certainly no one should withhold a tip if the entertainer fails to provide any, or all ofthese courtesies.

The only times I think it's not right to tip for the serviceare:

1. if the entertainer is rude. There is no excuse for rudeness.

2.if the person is not actuallypresent to give the service (i.e. if they're AFK). In this case the player isn't really giving the service - the service is being provided by the game system.

Some people also seem to believe that if they tip, they deserve some kind of special favour in return. Guess what - the favour they're tipping for is the heal - nothing more, nothing less. Tipping does not entitle the tip-giver to any form of temporary enslavement of the tip-receiver. People need to understand this.

Hmmm... and you say youre a dnacer? As a rl dancer (choreographer), you should either deal with it, or find another profession.
