So I'm in the cantina in Mos Entha as I write. I'm the sole entertainer in the place. I'm a master dancer, so I don't need to perform forthe XP, and I didn't get a mission to complete here (I don't need the money). So I have no reason for being here except to help folks heal. So far three customers have come in. I've greeted them each by name, and then they've sat completely silently, taken my healing services, and just left without even saying a 'thank you'.

Why should I perform forpeople and do them the service of healing their mind wounds (a service I do VERY well, sice I'm a master dancer)if I get not even the smallest hint of thanks from them? Hell, I don't care if they tip me or not, but when I'm the only entertainer here, you'd think they'd have the common decency to give me a smile, or some sign that they are glad for the service I'm providing them.

This doesn't bother me as much. Some people don't want social interaction in the Cantina, and that's fine- it's their playstyle, and I'm not going to force them to do something they don't want to do.

The people that bother me are the ones that DEMAND I dance for them (when I'm sitting and chatting with friends) and then leave without so much as a thank you. THAT I consider rude.

If they don't want social interaction, I think they should tip me then. I don't demand social interaction - just some way of knowing that they appreciate that I'm here, doing them a service. Heck, they could just wave goodbye if they hadn't any money. That would be enough. But I think thatto just sit there, take the heal, and leave is just disrespectful.

I agree with you Beery. Yes there are other worse ways for people to act.. but this is one that woudl bother me too. I am only a dancer part time.. its something I do when I am out hunting on Lok to help my team heal in the camps (and its pretty fun doing the robot dance ).

Its too bad there isnt a /flip emote yet I sure do hope they give us something. Then at least you could muster some social interraction when the person asks what they did wrong. ok maybe not the best way to approach it.. but maybe the hint could get across then.

Honestly, when that happens to me, I think that they just don't know how to act because I think they are expecting to see a bunch of AFK robot performers in there. They probably see you, hit watch and go take a bathroom break and then leave.

Hehe, that doesn't make me feel any better. So you're saying that for those people, I'm just a good excuse to go take a leak. That's great - just what I signed on for - I DON'T think.

Seriously though, I don't mind if they want to use that time to take a bathroom break. What I mind is that after they come back from their break, they don't even acknowledge my existence. No 'thanks for the heal'. Nothing. They just steal the heal and wander off. It's completely rude. In my opinion Ishouldn't be treated worse than a dog after I've done these people a valuable service. A little courtesy is surelynot toomuch to ask.

While I am still low enough on novice dancer I dance for the experience.........my main reason for picking dancer was the socializiing. I would never expect someone to socialize but it is soooo boring to just quietly dance to room of ppl with no words being said. I am there to perform a service and so far when someone has requested for me to dance for them it has always been politely..never has someone demanded it of me. Saddens me that ppl that just hunt, trap etc miss out on the main idea of this genre type game. Working together and building a community is the whole idea.

I love the town Mos Entha but had to leave as customers were so few and far between. I want master dancer and would take a year in such a quiet town. I return often tho as the locals are lovely ppl. Currently dancing in another town for the exp but plan on returning soon to Mos Entha for a visit

If you want entertainers to stay in your town..come watch so they get exp...stretch yourself to engage in jokes or convo..that is what we want for the most part. I have not traveled to increase tips as have always been tipped nicely regardless of size of town.

Well they're spoiling the game for all the folks who are playing responsibly. I want to provide the service, but not if I'm gonna be shunned for it. If I stop dancing, everyone will suffer, not just those who show disrespect for the dancing profession. That's not fair.

Then they chose the wrong game. If they don't want socialization they shouldn't buy games thatare built around it. This illustrates the main problem with SWG: while the game purports to be onein which social interaction is a necessary part, the gamemechanics don't do enough toencourage players to socialize.

I think you are preaching to the choir here, Beery. Most entertainers, those dedicated to the class anyway, are socializing, RPing types. I guess I should stop saying that since the last time I did someone called me a "Roleplay Nazi" for daring to say it, but given the posts on this forum, and the people I interact with in the game at least on Naritus, it is a fact. People who aren't into social/RP stuff either won't pick the class in the first place, or will become bored to death inside of a week and either AFKM to master and then go do something else, or else drop the profession entirely and go do something else. Either way, the sorts of people who read this forum (i.e. the dedicated dancers) are mostly people who already like/want social gaming, so we already agree with you about that.

What the non-socializer types don't seem to realize is that they may not like socializers, or respect us, or even want us in the game, but they need us. Because no uber-l33t-combat-d00d is going to sit around the med center or cantina for hours healing the others of that ilk. Only a socializer would do this... but we do this for the social aspect, and if that gets deprived from us, then we aren't going to do it either. More than one big-name, articulate, intelligent dancer on this very forum, has hung up her dancing shoes, retired the character (or from the profession) and gone out to kill things, because she isn't getting the social reinforcement she was looking for from the cantina. And when all of those people go away, who is going to be left doing the heals?

(Oh wait, I shouldn't say that, now the combat-wombats will accuse me of "extorting RP" form them, by suggesting that it might be in their interests to spend a few minutes giving their entertainers something fun to do while they heal.)

They're just using you to get what they want, healing. You don't HAVE to dance for them, you know.

There's a whole chunk of the population for which cantina and med center healing are not part of the game -- they are an interruption (and an annoying one at that) in the game. They want you to heal them fast so they can "get back to playing the game." Many have expressed their wish for something along the lines of a "Potion of Extra Healing" that will just heal them up full out in the field so they never come back to town.

People such as this are not going to socialize. They hate being in the cantina and Lora is right, as far as they are concerned you are just a healing bot. They're not really taking it out on you personally... they just are not in the game for any reasons other than being "out in the field" and ... doing whatever it is they do out there (killing, looting, trapping, surveying...etc).

On another thread, on the general forum, someone complained about the lack of entertainers in many public cantinas now except for Theed and Coronet. I got on there and said, as an entertainer, there are 3 likely reasons for this. (1) Nobody tips, so people looking for money are out running destroy or deliver missions or whatever to cover their expenses, which means they are not in the cantina. (2) Dancers are treated like 2nd class citizens and disrespected, and people don't like being treatd like that, so it makes them not want to be in the cantina. (3) Most dancers and musicians are, it seems to me from personal experience here and in game, social/RPish kinds of folk who are looking for social interaction and if they aren't getting that in the cantina (because everyone else is just there to heal and zoom off) they again they have no reason to be in the cantina. I suggested that people might want to address these three concerns by (1) tipping when they receive healing, (2) acting polite and respectful, and (3) maybe saying a line or two of dialog just to throw the socialization-starved dancer a bone. I was heavily flamed for my troubles.

Let 'em sit there with BF then, for all I care.

My character is a dancer so she won't stop dancing, but she just might take it into her head that she can dance just as easily on the lawn out back behind the cantina where (ooops!) no healing can take place...

I'm a novice dancer on Talus, and I must admit, when I heard ofdancer being a job, I figured I wouldn't waste my time learning that skill. But when put in a bad situation ( I had massive battle fatiuge and the cantina was empty ) i had no choice but to become a dancer to heal my own fatiuge ( it's not as fast as watching someone else dance, but it does work). Well while I was dancing, I had my first customer, so I decided to give him a show worth his time. He enjoyed my show, and although he didn't tip me money, he tipped me in heals for action and mind. I must admit it did make me feel good that I was able to heal someone as well as entertain them, so I'm making dancer as a side profession to my starting. But I do agree that someone acknowledging you for your service is important in our profession.
