Dancer Archive
Thread: This is what really pisses me off about dancing...
My group has begun hunting on Dantooni. Real good place. All Level 35 to 45 mobs (and up I suppose).
Anyway. There is only a small cantina/locker. I play a ranger and my wife is a dancer. I was setting up a macro for her and had the opportunity to interact with about four people from the TAG guild.
Not being a dancer, I did not dance but was testing out the flourishes and action cost and rest intervals and what not.
One asked me if i was going to dance. I said "um ... this is my wife's character and she don't like me talking to people because she thinks ill flirt and that makes her feel creepy" being a man playing as a woman creeps her out... what ever.
So, I said "oh. sorry." and I explained what I was doing.
They were a fantastic group. I danced and they healed me and I told them not to tip me because I was not a dancer but they insisted. (small tips 250). Apparently it is a guild policy to tip medics and dancers. My Respect for TAG has gone through the roof.
I must admit, the social interaction was great. Even though they knew it was my wifes character they roleplayed it well.
I asked them what they thought about AFK dancers. They said they enjoy it a lot more when the dancers interact but since it is an out of the way planet, they appriciate having Anyone there. Any Port in a storm, I guess.
It was a lot of fun.
P.S. My macro ran ALL NIGHT and made about 50k dance exp... and a lot of healing exp.
Try not to get weirded out about it too much unless they want sexual favors.
"Hmmm... and you say youre a dnacer? As a rl dancer (choreographer), you should either deal with it, or find another profession."
I'm not sure who you're talking to here, or what point you're addressing.
Hi Beery,
I don't post very often, but I feel compelled to say that there are certainly some of us non-dancers out there who appreciate your efforts to socialize.
Last weekend a number of us in my SWG gaming group got together in RL for a BBQ. One of the things that we discussed was the major decline in quality among the dancers that we have been seeing lately. Lots of AFK dancers in their underwear dancing in the middle of the furniture and ignoring anything you say to (or about) them. We agreed that it must be because all of the really good dancers, the ones who talk to you and wear clothes, have gotten fed up and moved on to another profession. Many of the comments that I have seen above seem to bear out this observation.
Then on Monday night, I was very pleasantly surprised to encounter a dancer and musician in the Deric Cantina (on Corbantis) who addressed me by name when I came in, and asked me how I was doing. I was so impressed I sent /tells to my friends and told them to stop by and check it out. I had a very nice conversation, did some /tenddamage and left them each 1000cr tips (which was a quarter of my total credits at the time).
Based solely on these two entertainers, I have decided to move my permanent base to Talus for the foreseeable future, and at least one of my friends has too. For the past few weeks, going to the Cantina has been an absolute chore. But now I am starting to look forward to it again.
Anyway, I'm sorry that you had a bad experience. I do have to say that Tatooine seems to be the epicenter of all things powergamer. So it doesn't surprise me that the sort that frequents their cantinas would be uninterested in chatting with the entertainers. Perhaps a different location might help?
You need to stop assuming people are just like you.
Lets get some things out of the way....
Not everyone thanks people
Some assume that you enjoy it
Some assume that its your job
Second of all, some peopledon't like socializing. Not everyone is outgoing as you are.
Well...thats all i can think of now...but if I think of anything else ill be back.
And I gave you two stars. All this is is a chance or you to vent your anger and flame.
Not all master dancers have given up and taken up new professions, some of us have opened private cantinas and have many wonderful performers that work with us. You will not find panty dancers, or AFK dancers there, they are simply not welcome and if they do not dress when told to they are removed, hastily. Our level of customer interation varies by customer, we have regulars that are chatted with, new people are greeted, welcomed to the cantina and invited to make themselves at home. Oftimes I enquire as to how the nights hunting is, I gauge how much interaction they want by their response to this.
A customer made the comment to me last night that he felt i had working with me half of all the good entertainers on the server. I'm sure there are many more good entertainers out there than he or i could ever know, but when i have customers that will take a death on Dathomir so they can come to my place for healing I think i'm doing something right.

So THAT'S why it is!!! Funny, I had just about come to the same conclusion myself. Every single time I go to Tatooine, there's always some jerk who starts licking me, orwho thinks it's funny to pretend to be mypimp, or who simply runs into the cantina, goes AFK, then 3 minutes later runs out again without even a 'thank you'.
I love Tatooine - it has the best scenery and towns, but the people who inhabit it act worse than animals.
I think it's just a matter of finding the right cantina community on your server for your play style. I've tried a number of cities on Tempest and have found wildly varying atmospheres in each. Coronet has lots of LAMErs and is usually so crowded it's hard to have much of a conversation with customers and bandmates alike. But my favorite tailor is there so I tend to visit a lot for shopping, training, and experience when I'm particularly eager to get past a certain level.
My favorite city by far is Mos Espa, and it's what I've started to consider my home. It's not too crowded, but busy enough that most times of day I can usually find at least one or two other entertainers in the cantina. Sometimes we go for periods without customers, but never for too long. I've encountered only a few LAMErs, fewer tip spammers, and lots of friendly medics-in-training there. The customers for the most part are very friendly and seem happy to interact if I make the first move. The faction name-calling is not too bad, and I haven't encountered any creepy dancer-stalker types there yet (knock on wood). I've made a lot of friends among the entertainers and regular customers and the tips are decent. Maybe not high dollar amounts, but most people at least have the decency to smile back at me and offer a word of thanks before they leave, if not some healing or a few credits.
I don't think the problem is necessarily with the profession or with the gaming community as a whole, it's just a matter of finding a place where you fit in and enjoy the company of the other people who call that city home. Drop by the Mos Espa cantina sometime, Beery, and see if you have a better experience than what you've found elsewhere.
