Thread: what will you be playing instead?
The sad thing is, the entertainer gameplay (such as it is) was the only thing that was keeping me in SWG. The combat side of the game dried up a long time ago for me. I think I've done every planetary and Imperial quest there is. Mastered numerous professions. Tried (and got quickly bored with) JTL. The only thing I still had and enjoyed was being a dancer.
Since I feel like they're screwing us over as dancers, I've cancelled. However, my sub doesn't run out until May 4. I suppose it's possible they may do something in the next two months that will convince me to reactivate. I'm not holding my breath though.
Otherwise I'm playing WoW a lot, and have been since the weekend it was released. I have a level 57 priest. I just love that game. The content, the immersiveness, the seamless world environment - I just love it. I feel like I can achieve there without being a power gamer and I'm having a blast.
I also started playing CoH again this weekend. I had been in the beta and then played for a month or so after it went live, then dropped it just because I had too many other things going on. I started again and was reminded how much fun it is, though in a completely different way. I couldn't ever see having CoH as my only MMORPG, but it's nice for an action-oriented break now and then.
I've also experimented a little bit with Second Life. Weird game, that one. Not really a game at all. The things I like about SL - you can customize your avatar all you want and change at any time, lots of different clothes to get or design yourself, lots of social activities like games and dance clubs. Unfortunately since there's no story-driven content it can get kind of boring and is basically a glorified chat room. Plus I've found that about 80% of all the player-made content is basically porn, so that's a bit of a drag.
I disagree with your assesment of our viability in the community being destroyed. The area of the game we (the ATK entertainers) currently have value is not being affected. They are giving us MORE tools not less to be good performers. All they are cutting out is the game mechanic that has burdened us and forced the players not interested in the performance aspects of our profession to meddle with it. The changes that are coming are going to be good for us, our importance will stay the same but the value of our game mechanic will decrease which will give the profession back to the people that truly enjoy it rather than those who feel they need it to be competitive. The combat player will come around looking for BF healing, but gone will be the pressure they put on us to enhance them for battle. They won't have to feel like we are keeping them out of the war any longer when we choose to perform rather than buff them in the shortest time possible.
I am going to play SW:G until I either can't connect to it because I have no money/ISP or they shut the game down. I love community and the star wars universe. This game offers me the unique chance to create and play characters in the star wars universe at the same time as interact in an online community that shares a lot of my passions and fantasies about living in the SW world.

That is fair enough, and actually I agree with you on this, because for me it was only ever about performing and well, entertaining, never about being a support profession. However, in that case they should also remove our skill point requirements, just to put us on an even footing with everyone else when it comes to being viable and able to earn your upkeep.
Count me among those glad to see the star system gone. A headache is all it was. I realize its purpose was to call intention to those posts that were helpful and/or well done, but as is the case when you get people who play a game and are out to "pwn" each other or invest real life feelings, tempers get in the way and the system gets abused. We're better off without it.
As for where I will be when the CURB hits...that's easy. Right here.
I play Dathora.
She is an entertainer.
She's not a buff-bot, she's not around to be used strictly for her healing properties. She is an entertainer, and provides me with a very fun and very wonderful opportunity to experience the social aspects the game I truly do love.
I, personally, see the coming CURB as a blessing to the entertainment community. With many people seeing our healing and buffing abilities as "obsolete" it is my hope that the number of bots will dwindle and we will be able to reclaim the professions we adore for their true purpose: entertainment.
I won't stand here and tell those who wanna leave not to though, that is their choice. If you truly are miserable in this game, then fine, nothing anyone says will truly convince you otherwise. We may placate you, but in the end, you will still leave. I will be sad to see people go, I love this community and its people. I can't wait to see the cantinas full of live entertainers again who are therebecause they want to be, notfora mindless grind.
Granted, I think we will always have AFK grinders, even those who want to be dancers and musicians but don't want to sit ATK the whole time. It is THAT reason I think AFK still is a problem that needs to be addressed, but I really do forsee the CURB as being a benefit in that it will induce the lessening of thebuffbot plague.
That said...yeah...I'll be here. I'm not goin anywhere!

Im looking forward to Middle Earth Online, tho thats still a long way off.
heh heh if you think the Star Wars purists are bad, imagine what the Tolkien purists will be like...
"But why can't I play an Entwife? They're in the books!!"
"Dwarfs just do NOT exist in this timeline, they're all underground!"
"There is no way an Eldar could be a rogue! They're sooo pure of intent! The only way an Eldar could be a rogue is if he's a goblin!"
Mark my words... thecomplaining will be 20 times worse!
But games that off the top of my head sounded sort of interesting was Matrix,(although I haven't honestly read anything at all about the game I just think it sounded like a cool idea) Middle Earth, D&D, there was one that was like all cars or something that sounded interesting and few other off the wall little ones but I would have to look to see what they were called.
