Ok.
And yes, the facts remain. SWG is a game with hundreds of thousands of subscribers. If you don't like it, talk with your feet and that will send a clear message if indeed you are in the majority. Just because you are bitter doesn't mean everyone else has to share in it every waking moment or agree with it.
I am in no way defending the Devs, but stating reality. You pay $15/month to play a game where there are no promises for continued development. If you don't like what you see, stop paying the Devs' salaries.
SWG was in development for three years. On release day, there were no mounts, vehicles, Corvette, Geonosian lab, Death Watch Buncker, Village of Aurillia, junk loot quests, and many other things that we have now about a year later. The Devs haven't been standing still.
As I have posted before, I have my own issues with the Devs and I do think they could do better, but I am not going to base my SWG existence around complaining about it. I am going to spend my effort enjoying the game as it is (bugs and all), and provide feedback so that hopefully over time improvements continue to be made.
I am sorry that some are so bitter and upset that I refuse to take part in it. I am a MCH though, and I'd rather spend my time enjoying it instead of complaining all the time. I would also rather participate in a forum where people are at least civil -- it's ok to not agree with each other, but the hatred that has existed in this forum by the vocal minority is counterproductive to the community.
I too may one day in the not so distant future leave SWG. I have seen most/all of the galaxy/content to date and am wondering "ok what else is there to do?" I'm still having fun and am hopeful that JTL will put some additional spark back into things, but I have mixed feelings. Until I decide to talk with my feet, however, I am going to participate in these forums but not bash the Devs with all my energy.

It's easy to think up ideas, comments, and criticisms. Much harderand more time-consuming to actually implement them (far more so than most people think). I guess TH could make a billion posts saying "We'd love to do that, but we just don't have the resources right now." Would that really be an effective use of his time? People hated hearing "Wait for the Combat Revamp"... but that's exactly the kind of posts you're now asking for more of.
There have been Big Things the Devs needed to focus on for the overall health of the game. Some of them expected, and some of them unexpected. This means that CH isn't under the spotlight. Thinking that "constructive feedback failed" just because ithasn't put us under the spotlight yetsuggests unrealistic expectations. The Devs do listen, and shouldn't have to make regular "We hear you but can't do anything about it yet" posts just to reassure you that this is the case.
They ask us for feedback (weekly questions, top issues, etc) and the communityputs a lot of effort into it and comes up with some information for them.
The problem is I think that the comments we get back from the DEVs make some people feel they're effortwas trivialized (wait until revemp) by the answers we get back from them.
Greetings,
I think we're beginning to look into the right direction. SOE is a business first and foremost. Their main motivation is profit. While we are all discussing what should and should not be done, promises that have been made, unfixed bugs, etc. etc. SOE is still getting their $15 a month for each account we have. There is no dip in their revenues, no pain or anguish for them fiscally, which gets more attention than anything else.
Have none of you ever owned a SONY product in your lives? Have any of you ever encountered non-SOE SONY customer service? Let me tell you as one who has, this is SONY's customer service culture.
SONY pays programmers, and yes they could hire a whole lot more to cope with many of these issues. However, when you're more interested in the bottom line than the customer's happiness, it's just not going to happen. Am I seeing a pattern from day one of my Galaxies experience? Sadly, yes.
There are many more parts to this puzzle than the developers alone. Do they not have bosses who tell them what to do? How many of you here have ineffective individuals in this capacity? How many of you exist under micromanagers planning how ought to spend your days. Dilbert exists for a reason. Who says the developers choose what they want to fix and when, let alone with what they can actually get to with the time restraints they have to deal with.
We talk to the correspondents, and they in turn talk to the devs. Whom in turn do they talk to? Are they the end of the line, the all being entities who run the game and business? I don't think so. Their overlings will determine how their time is best spent, have expectations, deadlines, etc. Who is to say they are not taking the brunt of this for someone else? Remember, Vert has lived though just this time and again.
I hate to say it, but the only way this is a two way street is fiscally. You have certain expectations for your money. If this company is not meeting your expectations, why keep paying? Would you endorse any product that was not meeting your requirements unless it were necessary and the only game in town (e.g. utilities)? Pardon the pun.
Am I happy with Galaxies as a Creature Handler? Absolutely not. I agree we are broke, but we are not the only ones. I would like to see many things change in regard to our profession, but those have already been civilly discussed on the boards. I do not have anything more of value to add, so why bother.
However, I have not yet run out of things to experience. So, I will play until then and cancel. If I play to stay and play aside friends, that will be a decision I make and not one that I can blame the developers for. I am not going to just hang around and scream, yell, and stomp my feet for the sake of doing so, hoping it will get the attention from the developers I am fighting for. It does no one any good, especially the forums. In the last near nine-months since the "start" of the revamp, I don't see where the yelling and screaming has gotten us anything. Please feel free to correct me if I am wrong in that regard. Nothing sends a bigger message to the people on the highest tier like dips in revenue. If they fix the game and add more content, I may return. But, I am not going to pay $15/month just stick around vehemently complain. I certainly hope no one in this forum would stoop to such a level.
I am not implying people have no right to voice their disatisfaction. Such is a person's right within the scope of of a privately owned forum. However, because this is not a public forum, things should certainly be civil, require moderation (not in a moderator sense) and needs to be used judiciously. The tone is quite negative in this forum, which does everyone little good. Keep banging your heads against walls, as you have been doing for months now. It will have the same response it has always had and will only lead to the alienating other members. The squeky wheel does not always get the oil.
I know the state of CH is not fair. But remember, life is not fair. If you are unhappy with they way things are, then why not cancel? If you pay for the game for any other reason, that is your decision. It was your choice to sit here and wait. You can tell me you stayed because of the promises made, friends you have, and what not, but you chose to stay, plain and simple. How can you fault the devs for that? You could have just as easily cancelled then and returned later once circumstances made the payment viable to you again. It's still not too late.
All in all, the developers owe us nothing. If you think they do, you're sadly mistaken. They answer to their bosses, just as we all do, regardless of how it affects your (player's) personal life. As I said before, SOE is a business run on a model and driven by revenue. Even if that model does not meet your approval, then there are plenty other games to spend your money on, and it does not have to be a SOE one.
Good Luck to All,
Professions will be more balanced in the combat revamp. It's a total combat revamp.

If this is true then I think there actually is some hope.
Vert I know that you lurk in this forum a lot, but simply yes or no, will professions be more specialized in the combat revamp?

Pem, nice post and I agree completely. I quit playing back in December but kept paying, hoping my attitude would change. When it didn't, I cancelled both of my accounts. I've been gone for prolly 5-6 months and back a lil over a month now. From my perspective, many things have changed in my absence.
I can tell you guys from experience that there is no better feeling, then reading all the negative posts about what is not fixed, bugged, broken or what not....and knowing that NONE of your dollars are going to support those things. I kept checking the boards on and off during my time away and I would just chuckle at the sad state of affairs....happy that my dollars were going to buy other games.
Wanna know why I'm back? Cuz of the promised revamp from December....yeah, I kinda fell gullible now but I still think they had some sort of plan....maybe not in writing...but that's a different threads discussion. AND, another reasonI came back was because of the Jedi Revamp. Yep, I think this should have been quest driven since launch. I'm still hopeful that now that it's in the game, I may get to play a Jedi....but perhaps not....time will tell.
The final reason I'm back......I actually missed the game. I can't believe it because when I left I was sooo upset I thought I'd never, ever be back. Ialmost threw away every note card, every waypoint, every little piece of info I had on the game. But thankfully, a friend stopped me and said to just put it away for a year. If you still feel the same way, throw it away then....I'm sooo glad I listened.
It's interesting to me that eventhough this game is so messed up that I still want to play. I actually have fun when I'm not reading all the posts about how bad it all is. Welp, I'm off to play again.
If you are upset and really wanna send a clear message, cancel your account. If nothing changes, you can feel good about not contributing. Word of advise tho....save your stuff. You never know what time will do for your attitude.
Aakhperkare wrote:No. You like to spend your time trying to moderate people. All you're doing is complaining about us complaining. Doesn't make much sense, does it.There are those of us that do not agree with you and we refuse to take part in your happy-happy, things are gonna be ok attitude towards things. I think you are being counterproductive for making excuses for these developers. Leave it at that, and be done with it...
Aakhperkare,
I am sorry you are under the impression that I am trying to moderate you. I apologize for giving you that impression.
I am also sorry you feel I am making excuses for the developers. That has never been my intention.
We are both players that are passionate about the game and we don't need to be at each others' throats because we don't agree. Why don't we leave it as you and I will agree to disagree and leave the personal attacks out of it.
SkyPreacher1 wrote:Now all I want is for the game to be roleplaying not just grinding out another profession. I really want some fun quests.
Indeed! I've had quite a bit of fun with some of the Aurilia quests. Some of the quests and the continuing story from the old man through the different village phases show some new thinking aside from the canned delivery, escort, and destroy missions we're so used to. The COA quests were pretty neat as well.
I think a lot of people buy a game like SWG for the story and roleplay, but quickly get caught up in leveling, getting money, "phat lewt", etc. I'm hoping that as we exit the Hologrinding era, see JTL, and get the combat rebalance the Devs will work to inject more to encourage roleplay and story.
Different people are motivated by different things in game I think though. Harcore PvP'ers, for example, aren't all that interested in dancing in the cantina (unless you get them drunk first).
