Thread: Animal Armor/PvP/Mounted weapons.

most of the problems with mounts could be sorted out by adding a wide variety of saddles, and by making mounts more specialized, i.e. the kaadu is the fastest, the brack is the best tank, the bol has the best attack, the dewback has the best gallop, the cu pa the best terrain mods etc etc.


by a variety of saddles i mean things like:

a racing saddle that increases the normal speed 20% and the gallop speed/duration 40%

a scout saddle that adds the riders terrain neg mods to the pets

a ranger saddle that allows maskscent/camoflague to be applied whilst in the saddle

a combat harness that allows the pet to fight while you ride it, but you cant

a survey saddle that allows artisans to survey whilst mounted

a mulit-passenger saddle that allows you to have a group member riding pillion (probably a pain to code which is why we dont see it in the 2 seater speeders.)

saddlebags that can hold 5, 10 or 20 items depending on the mount species (yes it would mean that CH's could 'potentialy' be able to carry a LOT more items than any other prof, but only if we sacrificed a number of the very limited spaces in our datapads! 2 rancors or 40 extra items of junk, hmm let me think....)

a marksman saddle and aBrawler saddle that allows specials from the marksman/brawler tree to be used at +30% the normal HAM cost

Rifle, Pistol, Carbine, Swordsman and Fencer saddles that allow the appropriate specials to be used but at +50% the normal ham costs (you'll notice i didnt include TK and Pikeman saddles, this is because i think pikemen should be able to use specials whilst mounted anyway and because im gonna need a lot of convicing on how a TK can do flying/spin kicks whilst sat on a mount!)

heavy weapons saddle for commandos and BH's that allow them to use their specials at +50% HAM costs. this saddle could also open the way for specialist mounted weapons for the commandos or possibly even the squadleaders to use.

Ialso thought of one more saddle, but dont know what to call it, it just has a few slots that allow armour or clothing attachments to be placed into it before the saddle is placed on the mount and then bestows those benefits to the mount (but not the rider)


some of the more basic saddles could be made as part of the tailor tree, with the more advanced ones be limited use schematics dropped by NPC's or given as quest rewards. once a special saddle has been attached to a pet its there permanently and cant be removed. oh and as were in the realms of fantasy it would be either a special saddle or pet armour but not both.

Man alot of these ideas in this thread are really good but what exacty do you think is going to happen once this stuff is in game? like torton PSG's and moutable weapons, we will of course become the next FOTM profession and will be further nerfed. The fact remains that pets can never and I mean never be a threat in PVP if we are going to be allowed to be effective in PVE. If im not mistaken the big reason everyone hated CH's for being to powerfull was because we were a threat in PVP (same thing applies to CM's). Your basically asking for another Nerf with alot of this stuff.


If I am wrong in any of my information I sincerly apologize this is not meant to flame any of my fellow CH brethern but it does need to be said.


Lets look at the nerf from another prespective.


First lets take a look at things they did right


1. they spread out the CL mods over the entire skill tree

2. Fixed bug that lets a novice control a rancor

3. Ch's are no longer to have out 3 faction pets like AT-ST's (which was a mistake to include in the first place IMHO yesI am an imp and I love it)

4. Including the 75% pvp reduction to pets attack but not defense (I know many will disagree with this but hear me out)


Ok so about the 4th item this was put in place to stop our PvP power obviously and if they had stopped here and left it at that id say roughly 75% of the flack we took would have gone away. Yes you would still have some hardcore CH haters just like we have those hardcore Jedi haters now. but these 4 things in themselves would have solved alot of problem if they had just stopped their.


Ok so thats4 things so far that the devs have done right


lets look at what was done wrong



1. Nerfing our pets Attack Power

2. Nerfing our pets Armor

3. Nerfing our pets HAM


4. Nerfing our pets Attack Power

5. Nerfing our pets Armor

6. Nerfing our pets HAM


7. Nerfing our pets Attack Power

8. Nerfing our pets Armor

9. Nerfing our pets HAM

10. Reapeat 1-9 as needed to get the point accross


As all of us know the devs too things way to far with this step and now that have single players soloing Krayts and killing rancors literally by the dozens.


These are my personal feelings about this so feel free to agree, flame, or ignore as you see fit.

are you suggesting joker that we stop giving sugestions and stop trying to enrich the game and our professions even when they ask for ideas and what we would like??


what is it you would like people to do nothing???


they ask and we give. it doesnt matter if its done tomorrow or next year or if ever. its the practice of trying to enrich the game and exersising our minds and freedom of speech that make the forums what they are. if we get 1 thing done out of a hundred we have contributed.


and for all the people lately who believe people on the forums ak too much of the devs and ive seenit by several people on several thread. wether for fixes or new ideas i have this to say.


SWG was once just a website with no code yet written for an actual game it was an idea then.

it was some of the same people you see today here in these updated forums who helped lucas arts with ideas, concepts, and what they would love to have in a mutlti player game. these are the people who helped build the game you have today they should be thanked not put down and shunned. they are also the people who have been disapointed the most at what the game has become and many have left. why? because theyr voices have been silenced my marketers who just want the almighty dollar. Some are still here and many have come to fill the gaps with idea's gae fix solutions, and yes complaining when it needs to be heard, when the game direction strays from its original plan. people may not be heard all the time but on those rare days when someone actually listens, constructive ideas and critisisms do us all justice. We post we hope we wait we help we work for a better game.


perhapsthe people who say the devs dont need our ideas or complains. that our ideas are too complicated and our fixes will never happen maybe youbelieve silence is golden

you may be right. I dont know, but then in this i say. your silence is practicing what you preach.

I agree with you, its true that in pvp whatever profession has what anyone thinks is an advantage or just plain been killed by the same type of character a few times results in a cry for a nerf.


as a rifleman I just recently posted on a thread in which a player wanted ion guns nerfed because he says he got sniped shot in his mind pools and keeps dying in pvp. needless to say his newness showed and the rifleman responded accordingly lol.


I am sorry if what I said seemed harsh. I just started a thread and dont need any reply's to it but it sums up some of what ive seen and heard lately. and I didnt mean to single you out I have saw your past post's and believe we are kindred spirits in much we say.


I just dont want to see people discouraged in trying to build a better game for us all :-)

Ok you want to kno what content I really want to see added once we are fixed?

The ability for a MCH to mount bombs craftedby a WSonto a flying pet and sent into the battle to rain death and destruction from above. What would even be better is if you could ride it while bmombing stuff. That would be freaking sweet. Oh yea we have to be able to drop different types of bombs to. Like napalm and biological bombs that do stats like fire and poison.

On this topic there is another thread that I would point to for some points of refreance. i'm not saying all the ideas in the thread are perfect but some disscussion has been taking place on things simular to this. It's the thread in my sig.

I can see that this issue touches on many aspects of the CH game. More than I had originally thought. The best way to proceed would be to break these things down into their categories. These break downs are as follows:


Mount Equipment


Mounted Combat Skills


Mounted Combat Bonus


Mounted Specialized.


Break down one is Mount Equipment:


Goal: Make mounts more useful by giving them wearbles, which allows for cretin added purpose.


Concept: Letting crafters such as Taylor, BE, Armorsmith, create items the mounts can wear such as Armor, saddlebags, medical bags, survival bags. Each item would grant the user of the mount or in some cases the group an extra bonus or skill.


Armor – gives mount extra resistance to damage, or if mounted gives rider and mount an added bonus. Armor could also be made to increase mount attacks by a precentage, or if mounted increases the riders attacks by a small precentage. Thisprecentage would go up the further up the CH skill tree you go.


Saddle Bags – Extra Inventory Slots


Medical Bags – A wearable with droid components in it which (would take driod batteries) and would act the same for a doctor or medic as being in a camp. Must be novice doctor, novice combat medic, to call a medical mount.


Survival Bags – For Novice Rangers or Master Scouts, these bags would give a bonus to harvesting, or masking sent, and allow for a better heal rate to camps when the mount is in camp with the master.


Mount Equipment can be added or removed in the data pad or use the drag and drop when mount is called. If you remove equipment from a mount it is gone and you must replace it, much like when you dress a NPC vendor, you can not call a mount that is wearing something which you are not the proper profession for, but you can remove what that mount is wearing or store it in you data pad.



Break down two is Mounted Combat Skills:


Goal: To give Creature Handlers a way to be an effective and unique role in GCW, PvP, instances.


Concept: As a CH approaches master they will be granted special abilities and moves to use in combat while mounted on a creature. The CH must be mounted and suffers a delay when trying to dismount in combat. For starters there could be armor for mounts that you buy, once the armor is onthe mount it becomes a combat mount, only able to fight when mounted. OR you can have BE/Wild pets that are stronger therefor only able to be in combat when mounted. It can be a numbers thing(behind the scenes) that the mount gets attack bouns, and use some more specials. The specials can come form the pet HAM or your HAM like the NEW HAM system has it layed out, not the old way. When the pet gets incaped, so are you, if the pet gets DB, so are you. You wouldn't be able to dismount in combat, there would be a dealy in the dismount command to avoid exploits, hopefull only a delay on combat mounts not normal mounts, Gallop delay removed or reduced, no galloping while in combat. Mounted Combat skill would be for MCH. I know that certin actions can not be done in combat on a mount but it seems the more you give up the stronger you can be in combat. For instance if you are unable to heal yourself while mounted in combat, that's a disadvantage that can mean you can have a bit more attacking power.



Break Down Three is Mounted Combat bonus/ mounted non-Ch skills:


Goal: To give primarily non-Ch a reason to use mounts more often, and rewarding the in a small way for doing so.


Concept: For each combat profession there could be a small pool of special moves that can be done from atop a mount. For instance if each combat profession had 3 moves. Each move should have purpose and not be too similar to another professions skills. As an example, if pistols get a mounted furry shot for better-crowed control, then swordsmen could have mounted passing swing for a good action attack. If each combat profession had 3 moves, it could allow them to attack a pool that they normally couldn’t, add a state change that they normally didn’t have ect. Also allowing more things to be done from atop a mount, such as survey, talk to NPC’s



Break Down Four is Mounted Specialized:


Goal: To give people a better love for their mounts by allowing them to customize them a bit more.


Concept: BE crafted dye packs to change color of mounts skin, allow ID to add spots or small markings to mounts and creatures.(This would also go well for creatures, not just mounts.)Also by keeping and using the same pets in combat that pet could over a long period of time, depending on what the mount is fed and how often it’s used, would get a bonus to it’s speed or defense, or it may become better at using it’s special moves landing them more often, or it may become faster, or get stronger mind. This would allow people that use a mount or pet for a long time to continue the creature training in more of an end game type of way. The most valuable and trusted creatures would be those, which a person has kept and used time and time again.






I ripped out sections of another thread so that they could be looked at in this thread as well. Sorry if it's not the format that you wanted PM9. For the "break down 2" many points have been debated out in the therad in my sig. Other ideas here are still in the brain storm pahse. I'd be happy to make threads on each break down but I don't want to bog the fourms down with more threads no one cares about. So once I see that others are latching on to a particular comment then I think it would be more proper to start a thread.


Also we need some type of system where if an idea or concept gets brought up enoufh that it becomes a sticky post. For instance how may times has the idea for a corr., been reposted by someone as a new idea even though PM9 and others have been talking about it for months. I don't think it's too much to ask for one thread devoted to the most popular of ideas that stays on topic. Well may be it is too much to ask but how about a Concept thread that is "locked" that only one person can update with a format like:

raynedog, very interesting ideas. I especially like the elite type of mounts. A mount with a medical bag for master medics, Docs, and CM's. Scout and Rangers get a survival bag, and even the novice could have just a plain saddle bag for storage. Great ideas. I like the rest as well. Please keep these types of ideas coming.

FYI: I believe P9M is in the process of putting together version 3 of the "corral" thread. Robo is working on the armor thread. Some of what you mentioned should be inserted there. Great job.

This is correct Pluto is working on Version 3 of the corral and I am working on Version 2 of this thread. I'm busy durring the weekdays school and after school activitys but I'm starting this Friday. So this friday I am gonna print everything in this thread and do a nice workup wile consulting with PLuto on soe finer points. But very nice raynedog I liked it. Hopefully I will have Version 2 finished by sometime next week. But I dont wnat to get into the dev sydrom just want ot say I'll try my best.

Robo said he'd have those docs done sometime next week, here it is 2 days closer to next week and notthing why do you hate us Robo? J/k....just having some fun with ya robo.


I would like to take the ideas from my post and get them togther for a more fleshed out look at the ideas but where can you post something like that without it getting burried 7 pages by tomarrow?
