Thread: Why do so many CH's scoff at BE pets?

The BE's on Starsider are price gouging badly. I have trouble finding a good BE pet over 25cl for under 100k.

Greenstok,

Happy to be a resource on the Kettemoor server.

I think that Gemini actually gets to part of the source of the issue. If you're in a profession that at the beginning can command rancors as a novice, and now need to go to another profession for custom pets, that's painful. The fact that, in large part, BEs benefited from some of the de-clawing of CH makes the bio-engineers a natural target for attack.

Some BEs don't help by being jerks. My biggest problem is time--it takes a LONG time to build a good custom pet, especially if the client asks for specific special attacks, damage, attack speed, CL, etc.

I don't think that BEs have done a good job of making CHs aware of what it takes to make a clone. Thus, when a CH asks for a very specific pet ("CL 23, armor, 60% kinetic resists, 300+damage, strong poison and strong disease specials"), this is a pretty massive undertaking. Some BEs will turn this kind of business away. Don't see it as a rejection; it's a fun factor/business decision. It takes a lot of time and money (and equipment decay) to build a pet like that. BEs are the only crafting profession that have to engage incredibly powerful, dangerous creatures for their resources (DNA). One critical fail at the end starts the whole process over. Drop by the BE board and check out the threads to see what is involved.

As far as price gouging goes, if you feel like someone is charging too much, DON'T BUY IT! Spend some time on some other planets where BEs might be more reasonable. If you're willing to be patient, you can usually save some big creds. Also, in a free market economy, if someone is willing to buy something, someone will be willing to sell it. There were a ton of CHs (and non-CHs) who were offering huge credits for bugged BE pets before the fix. They knew it was a bug and were willing to pay a premium for the creature anyway. That type of temptation is hard for some to resist.

Some of the BE attitude might be RP based as well. How friendly, warm and fuzzy are most mad scientists? A lot of BEs characters are highly educated lab rats, so if they come off as condescending, much of that mightbe in-character. The bottom line is are they willing to work with you? Are they giving you a fair price? If so, chances are any "attitude" is likely in-character. If a BE really doesn't want to interact with you, they'll just /ignore you (and hurt themselves in the process--BEs can't do anything without CHs, Tailors, and Chefs).

If you're on Kettemoor and fancy a trip out to Relic Beach (3k south of Coronet), drop by my shop, Advanced Xenogenetics, and look around. Send me a /t in-game to discuss or ask questions. Like I've said before, there are certain realities that we cannot change right now--BEs and CHs are better off working together than at odds.

I have nothing against BE's, except those that troll the CH forum with nerfs and the condensending idiot that feels he must show the lack of intelligence of every poster. If this is role playing he can do it in game, if he has combat skills. Nothing like reading 8 messages from the pompus arse that have nothing to do with the topic. Talk about some one with an a self image problem. Some how, I doubt he does it in game. lol If he does, come meet my Master Gunfighter/MCH on Chillestra. I promise, no pets.

You guys also have a problem. Ch's are quitting in droves. I lost 4 die hard CH friends in the last week. Yes, I know it means nothing but two were beta players and the other two were from release. I am from release and am about ready to just quit. Do a find on your server and you will see what I am talking about. I suggest you pickup CH as a secondary profession or you are going to have problems. I have been helping BE's since release. I hoped one day they would get the attention they deserve. They did and I am happy. I have 7 BE pets, two I keep for sentimental reasons. The BE was so proud when she made them long before you were fixed. The others are good pets that were made by people I helped. I paid little or nothing for them. Actually, negotiated in reverse on some and snuck in sales on a vendor of a freinds for others.

That being said, I am not a BE basher. I am a MCH that will no longer tame BE pets or deeds. It is not out of spite. It is a useless time sink for me. I do not need the xp, get grief when I try to explain that even if I could I would not name your pet F---Yo---Mamma, end up giving CH 101 lessons, and am expected to do it for free. Most of us are at the point where we just use our other combat skill and do not even call our pets. They are that useless, even my great BE pets. Why bother with the healing time sink, the running problem, the poofing problem when you need them and all that camping and scouting stuff. I am also a Master Gunfighter and Novice medic. I now solo better without my pets. I can do the same missions without all the time sinks.

I would suggest you guys pick up at least Novice CH for the future because I suspect I am not alone. Read the CH forum. Alot of us veterans are just giving it up. TH's attitude, the emphasis on PVP versus content, and the simple fact that from day to day you can expect at least one stealth nerf a week and a major nerf with any patch or hotfix. We are sick of it. The solo players are taking up TKA or quitting. The group players are taking up TKA and other professions. Yes, there are eager Novices out there but it will not not be long until CH is thought of the same as Commando was before it was fixed. Do not waste your time. The only difference is Commando was broken and this was done intentionally to the CH.

Well, I wish you guys all the luck in the world. I am trying to decide by this weekend to either quit or role play another class. What goes good with a Craggy Old Prospecting Hermit that talks to himself, helps every Novice he sees with money advice and resources, mutters to his pets, lives in acastle in the middle of nowhere ontop of a mountain on Dant? It will just not be the same without theDevil Guginaws flapping on patrol around the castle, FrakenKitty (pink Jax) and FrankenPuppy (Uber Huurton.) as companions as I clean up the spawns nearby and talk with visitors. I am afraid, my friends, I am not alone.

I have3 razor cats made by a master BE, and they will rip any pet we can tame in the wild to shreds.

1 is level 66, the twins are both level 34, i use the twins as my mains now, as nothing even comes close to them when doing PVE, i dont do PVP, but they have no weaknesses, and their resists go from 20, up to 98, of course kinetic is 60, and they have light armour.

I will buy from BE all the time now, unless we actually get some wild animals out there that can compete against a BE pet. ( not talking about extinct ones) as I have a king merekand a FG who was my main until i got the BE pets.

Mrhawat, I hope you feel better after that rant. If you were referring to me as the person that came here to prove every one wrong, let me come clean.

I am a CH, I have been a CH longer than most, not as long as some. It was my goal to become a CH when I started the game and I have no intention of changing. I read the boards because I am interested. That is good enough for me.

I see a fair number of MCH's beating up on BE's. They might have a legitimate gripe. How would I know, I am not on any of their servers. So I issued a challenge, give me your name and server so I can research this... And yes, you are correct, I would like the charge to be wrong and that is my goal is to prove it wrong. If I can not prove it wrong, I will expend effort to see that things change on his server... why? because I don't like insults to the BE's to be true. If it is, I want to change it.

Am I a bad person? Is this a bad thing?

No, I was not referring to you. I recognize you are genuinly trying to help work as a go between for both the CH and BE for the benefit of both. I appreciate that, I really do. I follow you comments and suggestions in both forums. I was referring to Kharissa or how every he spells his name.

No, I feel worse. I am normally a calm rational person. I seldom get upset. When you reach the age of 5 decades you should know better. :-) I guess this game has finally gotten to my last nerve. I canceled my second account and feel a little better now. I will feel alot better this weekend after I have given my stuff away and said my goodbyes and cancel my final account and uninstall the game.

So, if you though I was referring to you, I was not and apologize for the missunderstanding.

Been thinking more on this. The CH community as a whole I believe is 1) under a siege mentality - what bad is going to happen next (and paranoid about it) 2) So angry at events that we will lash out quickly. It's been 8 days since the last patch, and we have had not even a whisper of feedback about our complaints of what we hope are "bugs" with the patch. Our correspondant is having trouble communicating with us, and perhaps the Devs as well. I submit to you that it is not hard to incure the anger of a CH of late, whether deserved or not. I've been a master architect for a long time, and have never had even close to the issues and problems that the CH side has.

Add to this TH's recent derogatory comments to the profession (and continued silence on our concerns) = more anger. I think that many CHs are not much in the forgiving mood as of late.

Nothing wrong with BE pets as long as they are realistic... I have several myself a kimogilla a couple of woolamanders, a arcane spider, paid dearly for them all and because they are only atainable through BE's I have no problems with that....

What I do have problems with are the unsavory practices of selling the bugged cl 1(0) pets to non-chers that have an excess of 10K ham not only is it setting up the CH profession for further changes but it is making the expierence a little less fun to see mr SuperJediFly with a kimo of CL1 with 14K ham......

You know for the longest time I was very Anti-BE pets.

Reason are:
It took away from the pride of taming something nice. (egotistical reason)
Our wild got nerfed hard. (lose of armor lowered resists)
Our cash crop was gone. Before I complain about BE making loads of money, I will ask how many CH's sold mounts at 500K, some of them did and I know it. For the record, I told everyone I would not sell and if they tipped I kept it. It is the same I do with taming deeds currently or training mounts.
With wild pets taking a big hit. The new agro policy on CH. The CH still had missions. But they became increasingly harder to do. In the course of doing the hologrind I have managed to keep MCH. Why because I like it and rifle is so much easier to get back than MCH. The point here is that as MChef can make money but crafting is not my thing. I am much more complex than a button pushing money trying to get something right for a banana. If you like doing that more power to you.

My antimosity towards BE (as well as many others I suspect) is that I really hate player driven economies. As a broke hologrinder, MCH my reliance on BE pets does not fit a 100K to 1M budget. The fact I have any BE pets is merely because they were gifts from a lovely woman.

Another thread asks why CH's are not buying taming clothes now that they are 25K and quite possibly under? The answer when the milk was rare the shirts were 1-3M on valcyn. If we see you as greedy then that may be wrong in certain light. Even when I had 2M available it was through two boxing and putting both incomes together. For me right now the game itself is little about gaming, it has been reduced to a chat system with avatars. Occasionally, I will do a mission, support friends in PvP, or sight see. Most other times I run around in circles in my city waiting for someone to talk to. Why you will not see me at your should anytime soon is that our profession is so broken I have little need for new pets. Collecting a menagerie of pets is something that was fun in the wild. But to further your weaponsmith analogy a little more, once I buy an Uber Graul I do not need to buy a Blurgg because it looks different. Just like a pistoleer will not buy 8 FWG. He looks for the best stat and uses it until it is expired. If you think I am supposed to fascinated with you for having all the same skins of pets I can tame in the wild, then maybe just maybe thats where the BE is wrong. Just because I can hold 20 different pets does not mean im going to drool and wait in line to buy 20 BE pets. The tame is fun, the buying is not.

I am a MCH that likes to solo a lot. It's hard enought to get to the rare babies without others mucking up the situation. I've had members of the group hit the lair just as I'm trying to tame...so I solo alot. I have a couple of high bio-pets to help me find and tame the rare babies. There is nothing in the game any where close to taming some mean little baby with mom, dad, cousins, uncles and aunts all around you. My record is 27 attempts (and 4 argo attacks) for a widow baby.

So, in short, I have some high level bios that help me do what I really like to do....solo and tame.

Mrhawat, I can relate to the 5 decades. Everyone in this game has done wrong in this game at one time or another. I would prefer you to simmer for a few days, then decide. I have done that a few times.

I wanted to report an update on Starsider. I recieved this reply:

"never knew i could charge that much"

I thought that was weak, so I replied:

"All I need is one BE to say they will supply pets under CL 40, ar1, 60 kinetic for 100k or under. Frag, is that you?"

I am waiting for a reply.

My commitment is, if I can not receive this commitment, I will start a BE there and do it myself.

I love BE pets. Most of mine are that type, and I love them. I love them so much I even sometimes buy crappy "test" ones with some messed up ham arangement, just to try them or look at the model. I buy pets just for the look. Thing like Woolamanders and other strangities. I am still looking for the Giant Vermok(sp?).. aka the giant King Kong looking pet.

Also, I never scoff at prices. I have paid upwards of 500k for a pet and didnt even flinch. I think that BE's needed some help and got it, and I am glad that they did.
