A creature is NOT a weapon. It is akin to having a second person with you carrying a weapon, ... not being the weapon itself.

Creature Handler is (or at least was told during beta) a combat profession.

If I have no weapon skills, my pet is my weapon. I should not have a 30 second timer on my weapon.

Players never had the ability to call a pet anywhere, anytime. A camp was always required, which still required time in itself to craft.

A creature is not a weapon like a pistol is a weapon to a pistoleer. It's more akin to being another person alongside you carrying a weapon.

As for the reasons ... here's a situation I thought of which would make the ability to call a pet anytime anywhere unfair:

"What if I'm out hunting on Dathomir and I see a Jedi leveling up XP on some rancors. He has a TEF, so he cannot attack me until I attack him first. I race up to him on my speeder, jump off quick and then immediately whip out my AT-ST, immediately give it the command to attack to start the engagement. Do you think it is fair for me to surprise a Jedi with a TEF by pulling out a walking turret that can easily pierce through his composite? It isn't."

Having a 30 second timer would prevent this type of unfair gameplay.

There are many more situations like this which will come to light if a 30 second timer is removed. Why can't people see this?

Calling a camp vs. waiting 30 seconds without one ... the time difference is minimal -- from 6 seconds longer of a wait to not even waiting at all.

DeneziB,

What I think we're trying to say here, is that:

1.) They are giving everyone the ability to call pets/vehicles/droids/etc, anywhere.
2.) Because this is now an innate ability for all players, it is being subjected to a 30 second timer.
3.) Currently, the scout class (a prerequisite for creature handler) has the same ability, timer-free, by crafting a camp. One of the main perks to scout, IMO.
4.) Currently, all classes have this ability, timer-free, in a city or existing camp.
5.) Because of this change, ALL classes are being penalized with a 30 second timer, regardless of where they are. Camp, city, wilderness all equal 30 seconds.
6.) This change impacts creature handlers most directly because it is equivalent to a pistoleer being told they must wait 30 seconds to equip their gun. It is a time-sink.

Therefore, the creature handlers are the most vocal about this particular issue, as it compounds some of our other bugs, like pet auto-store.

I think the easy solution, that seems most balanced, fair, and non-time-sink-ish, is to keep the system the way it is currently:

1.) Pets/vehicles/droids/etc. may be called in a city or camp with no time delay.

And ADD to it:

2.) Pets/vehicles/droids/etc. may be called anywhere OUTSIDE a city or camp, but are subjected to a 30 second penalty timer for non-standard location.

This means if you are in the "city" locations, you don't have to wait for your vehicle to spawn. You don't have to wait for your droid to spawn. You can have access to your goods just like you always have.

But you now have the ability to call without a camp, in case you need it. Jedi no longer have to have scout buddies come pick them up from their hunting spots, crafters no longer have to curse the sky when their vehicle autostores and they're left 4K from nowhere without a speeder. These are all good things.

As it stands now though, all players are LOSING a CURRENT ABILITY. Why you don't seem to see that is beyond me. If I'm in a hurry to get somewhere from town, I don't want to wait 30 seconds for my speeder to materialize because now everybody gets abilities I always had. It's a plain and simple nerf to any current scout, and the player base as a whole.

No, a creature is not your weapon. A creature is your fighting companion akin to having a second person fighting along your side.

Ask them to please put a 30 sec timer on equiping a pistol, carbine, rifle etc.

Also note that people will just leave their vehicles out so they are ready. Come to think of it that is more starwarsy anyway. In the movies when people wanted to get away fast (RTOJ) they hopped on vehicles and ran away they didnt wait even 1 sec for them to be 'generated'

Now i am sure you are trolling. The creature *IS* the Creature handlers weapons. If I chose to be a master artisan again and stay a merchant I would have to give up the marksman pistols tree. If I did that then it would be clear that I have only the creatures to inflict damage ergo they are the equiv of the higher lvl pistols, rifles, carbines (if specials worked).

Futher on your attempt to hide the 30 sec timer behind a long list of time using activities you missed 1 small but important detail. If I buy the camps from the bazaar and have scouting ability (cause I have to to get CH) then there is only the delay to set up a camp, pull pets, vehicle, drive off. So having spent the last several months doing that (pets and vehicles have been autostoring for a while and pets get stuck at a server boundry) I have had a lot of practice So ctl-i brings up inventory say 1 sec, click on camp and generate, 1 sec (presumes you are lucky enough to be where you can set a camp ) ctl-i to loose the inventory 1 sec, ctl-d to bring up data pad, 1 sec, click on beast of choice, 1 sec, click on vehicle, 1 sec,ctl-d store datapad, hop on vehicle, 2 sec (1 to target 1 to get on) so now I have used 9 sec and I'm off. Now some of this is the same time. So 1+1+1+1+2=6 36 sec from start to going (6 sec to call datapad, call 1 pet, 1 vehicle, store datapad, target and mount vehicle)
36-9=27 wasted seconds. That is 27 Real Time seconds. This game has time compression cause not all of us can play 24/7 Measure the time from Sun-up to Sun-down. Extrapolate. 27 RL seconds is a lot longer in game time.

I have read some decent arguments both for and against the 30 second rule.... as some people have suggested i think it would be great if this rule were in addition to the current rules. ie.. calling instatnly in town or in a camp and waiting 30 seconds if not in town or camp. I do not get the impression that this is the case though. As for comparing the pets to a weapon... well all i can say to that is.. show me a player who relies 100% on his pets and I will show you a player who is not concerned about combat very much... The thing about pets is that they are in addition to and not your primary weapon. Most (maybe not all but close) CH are also very proficient at another type of combat... be it Pistol, rifle, TK, sword whatever... maybe even partial commando or BH.. and even with the 30 second rule you can stil don your armor and weapon (because yes CH still wear armor and carry weapons) instantly.. Not comparable.. the best argument i have heard so far is when you are calling pets multiple times (and i do do this often enough to rethink my prior post) such as in taming or healing or just examining stats (now a quick fix for this would be to show all details while the pet is stored to include resists and current wound and damage status). If that where to happen i would stick to my original reply... none of that "I Chose You PokeGraul" stuff.

I do know how serious you are when saying that... but just the way you said it gave me a much needed laugh. Maybe I am just over tired.... But anyway that was great.

Hey Vert, any idea if the buggy pet range to their target will be fixed before the next publish?

Always glad to help give a fellow CH a laugh durning these difficult times

I am certainly no fan of most nerfs and wouldnt want to see my fellow "poke" commandos get nerfed anymore then I want to see my loved profession of CH get nerfed

I was just trying to show how RIDICULOUS TH is being on this... It seriously boggles my mind they havent fired that bubbling buffon yet. He is a COMPLETE moron. Everytime he opens his mouth when it comes to CH he makes my brain ach

Why is anyone responding to this? It is trash.

WHAT ABOUT THE PROBLEMS WE HAVE CURRENTLY THAT MAKE CH UNPLAYABLE?

There should be NO WORK onANYTHING until the profession works again.

Sony needs to hire a community relations rep to help interface with the players. I don't understand whySony has noone to communicate with us.

this new publish is making me want to drop ch with the pet bugs now and with 7 coming out soon, makes it even worse and i like being ch

question - since BE pets pretty much dominate CH pets..why not make EVERY PET tamable?

Ack if they are going to have this timer then at least allow us to have our pets "ride" with us if we are on a vehicle

Community Service Rep? Uhhh, ... that's Thunderheart's job. He's doing an excellent job too. It's just too bad that he's got to deal with all the little kids crying and whining about inconsequential things like waiting an extra 6 seconds to call a pet. I feel for Thunderheart. It must be like working in a daycare the way the kids on this forum, in this thread, behave. I know he must want to smack around the whiny little kids here, but he can't because he'll probably be sued for child abuse.

I don't know how many times I have to repeat this, and I'll repeat it again for the really, really, really slow people: Comparing a creature to a weapon is nonsense. It's been stated many, many times officially that having a creature is essential like having a second person along with you hunting. A pet is not like a pistol or a suit of armor. How many times must you all be reminded of this? Even after I repeat that so many times, there's some stupid kid who keeps saying: "Well how come there isn't a 30 second timer whenever a commando switches to a flamer? blah blah blah" I just wish the parents of the kids who keep saying that abandons them at the daycare center so they never sit in front of a computer screen again.

I still haven't seen anyone respond to the Dathomir Jedi scenario I mentioned a few posts back. And really, that scenario can apply to any factioned player with a TEF, or a group TEF. What's stopping a TKM from riding up to a TEF'd Jedi on his speeder, immediately calling out an AT-ST and first-shot killing the jedi?

There are many, many other scenarios like this which highlight why a 30 second timer is necessary. Unfortunately all the dense kids in the daycare center refuse to even see it because they're busy playing with their crayons and watching Blue's Clues on TV.

Also, the profession IS working. I just played my CH alt for four hours hunting. What the hell are you guys talking about when you say it doesn't work? Do you think it doesn't work because you can't kill everything under the sun with your Republic Blaster as your creature attacks mob after mob? Sooner or later you're going to have to realize that you'll need more than a Republic Blaster and more skills to actually kill big things in the game.

Blanket labeling things as broke is absolute nonsense, ... especially since the past four hours of me playing a CH worked perfectly bug free.

I swear, some kids whine just for the sake of whining.
