Thread: spilling the beans on CH in beta (NDA lifted)
I cant wait to try this out. I was very dissappointed we didnt get to tame any pets on Kash. This sounds much more to my liking. ![]()

Wow. And wow again. Never ever thought we'd be able to tame level 80 pets - guess the Cubs did win the World Series this year (in reference to a post I made in another thread). This may well be the thing that keeps me playing SWG. Much remains to be seen, of course. Besides needing to be a CL 80 CH am very curious as to whatother restrictions there will be - can't help but believe there will be other restrictions.
I like that it won't be an automatic ability - that it will be something we need to work for. While I don't like that a Master CH has to be CL 80, Ido understand why as it would make a CL 54 CH way over powered (compared to other CL 54 templates). It might not be fair for the Master CH/Master BE player. But what about the Master Pistoleer/Master BE? Or anyelite combat profession with a non-combat profession template? Is it fair that they should be way under powered compared to a CL 54 CH with a CL 80 pet?
It might seembitcontridictory that I'm arguing that a CL 54 CH shouldn't be more powerful than other CL 54 professions, since I've always agrued for being able tocontrol CL 80 pets. However, I've when I've agrued for CH being able to control CL 80 pets it's been in the context of having a CL 80 template.
Still, I also understand that it doesn't reallymake a lot of sense. As Indene pointed out - what does having any other combat profession have to do with being able to tame pets? Why wouldbeing a Master Pistoleer make me more capable at taming creatures? I think, though, that it (requiring CH to be CL 80)might just have to be one of those things that need to be done for the purposes of game play.

are we sure the CL80 req is confirmed?
apologies if i've missed that specific in this thread...
Yes, this was confirmed by the dev team. Like anything else in the game, I suppose it's subject to debate/change, but at the moment that will be the requirement.
I know many of you are CH/BEs and this isn't making you too happy, so it's worth bringing up as an issue... I personally would rather them count BE as a combat profession and grant CL (since BEs are necessary for GCW base destruction and have to DNA sample from high-end creatures) but that's technically a BE issue not a CH issue.
at fan-fest, Keldarin stated that BioE's are 'noncombat'. since we get an armor cert (which is basically useless), are required for GCW base takedowns (the requirement is actually 'novice BioE', which doesn't help), and spend a significant amount of time in the field in close range to unfriendly targets, I'm not sure how 'noncombat' fits.
BioE's get a CL of 17 at master... but a mBioE/mCombat (BH, CH, etc) is only CL58. the only way a BioE can reach CL80 is with jedi skills.
this has indeed been a BioE issue since p16, but the CL limit has never been as punitive to BioE's and noncombat CH's until now. I hope that either the toon CL issues can be addressed, or the requirement for a toon CL of 80 can be removed, before this expansion is released.
I've been unhappy with the limit to toon CL imposed by BioE restrictions for a long time (as has the BioE community). with the proposed changes, I'm also less than pleased with the requirement of toon CL of 80, as this gates hordes of mCH's from new content and viable options.

Ok they just lifted the NDA so I can talk!
CH is getting some love in the expansion-here are some highlights I will add more later-
-CHs will be able to tame up to level 80. requirements are Master CH, level 80 combat level, and undisclosed items or skills that you will get that will increase your taming by levels of 2 until you get to 80. All of the creatures on Mustafar 80 and below are reported to spawn babies. Babies 71 and above are supposed to be really rare.
-AI has been significantly changed. Pets and NPCs will now use specials in combat. NPCs will follow profession specific ability rulesets (TK, Jedi, Etc)
-In my testing pets are much stronger. My level 67 was able to solo level 65-69 with no help.
I will get more info as soon as I can.

i wonder a tamable gorax, aclkay, or kryat? (been on test havent looked)
I would doubt it since they are elite boss style creatures. I believe we are not able to tame any elites or they have no babies.

CH content? Level 80? New pets? I better call Satan, I think Hell just frooze over.I hope to God that the content is balanced well for CH and the goals have meaning among the masses. I hate content that is just implemented to keep us quiet.I am happy to hear we are getting some love, thanks SOE, but the pet grind system still licks monkey nutz!I feel we will need more data pad room.We will see, fingers crossed for no headaches or bugs!I can only imagine the amount of XP it will take to unlock all the slots on a level 80 pet now. For 5 million+ XP, this new level 80 pet better shot lasers out of its eyes.
Is it just me being negative when im thinking that i can only be a good CH if i buy the new expansion ?Is this not another markeing ploy by SOE forceing players who want to compete at the top to fork out for the new expansion ?
CH content ? , level 80 ? new pets ? yes all avaolable if you pay SOE hsrd earned cash..
/agree
Is this only for the CH's buying the expansion?
What if I don't want to buy the expansion? Will I be a second rate CH?

I expressed my disconnent about not having these level 80 pets being at CH/BE on the beta boards and got not reply. They did explain in several chases that they felt level 80 pets on a level 54 toon was unbalancing, which is why they are requiring level 80. The easy fix here would be to have BE get a few combat levels. It costs them nothing to do this. Of course, that is something for the BE boards really.
I did ask if BE pets at level 70+ would be usuable and it seems to be a yes on that. Least we got that much.

Exactly what I am feeling / thinking.
And to add to the highlighted list, BE's need a combat profession to even qualify to become a BE, 2 trees of Scout.

Hmmmm. So as a Master CH I am supposed to believe that I have to have a MASTER of an elite profession that has NOTHING TO DO WITH Creature handling just to tame and control the mystical new level 80s? I am NOT pleased at all and any other crafter in the game who is also a CH should feel quite negitive about this. Maybe I won't bother with the expansion since I cant use the one useful thing for a CH in it.
