Thread: Do the Devs want CH to go away?
And god help us all when that happens, because it'll take six people to kill a gnort lair.
If you remember correctly, the devs said that when the initial creature changes went in, it would seem like some of the other combat types seemed more powerful. This would be the case until the final balancing went in. If you've noticed, some of these classes have begun to feel that effect as their effective power has been brought back in line.
Great reply. I don't mind people having a different opinion to me when they state their points civilly and logically like you did

As Soln pointed out though, one of the issues with the SWG game design is that Mix'n'Match of templates is both a blessing and a curse. It's a blessing in that you can try different things. It's a curse if someone takes, say,Commando and part CH. All anyones see's is a guy with a pet trashing things easily and getting really nice paying missions. This is why they moved all the "good stuff" up to the top of the CH tree, it was an attempt to keep it out of the hands of the Hybrids.
I went MBE/MCH/Pistoleer 0/0/4/0. I've never been able to get missions over 12k, even when grouped with a CL 70 pet. In my mind, the problem was the Hybrids that play the latest "l33t flavour of the month", not the Creature Handlers, but all anyone saw was that Rancor, Grand Wrix or Graul running around and they assumed "CH are too powerful". They were, when combined with a Combat Hybrid (Commando/BH)class.
Soour class was "fixed" and the Hybrids moved on (it's worth noting that there is still a problem with these classes, hence the "Great Combat Revamp"), which leaves us with a lot of unhappy Creature Handlers today. Those that took the class because it looked like fun, those who wanted a "friend in the field" to watch over them while they collected DNA or surveyed or whatever, those that actuallytook Creature Handler to be a Creature Handler because they loved the idea of the class, are the people that are left.
Theproblem is the Dev's tried to cure the "flavour of the month" syndrome and to do that they nerfed it till it wasn't attractive to the "l33t d3wd5",which thenleft us with aclass that only just functions as it should, no more, no less...and when there is a bug like the "run bug", it's more "less"...

Just to keep things in perspective....
Some of you may remember when TH asked how many credits people made per hour. Non-CH routinely answered anywhere from 150/hr-20,000/hr. CHs routinely answered 200,000/hour. I remember it well because I had not even replied to the thread with my own pitiful income rate (about 3k an hour at the time). I was staggered at the inflationary aspect of it and worse, that it was so clearly concentrated in a single class, whether dabbled or mastered. It was easy to see that in this regard the devs felt highly motivated to reduce the power of theCH.
I just recently moved to CH myself, heading to Master. I look forward to controlling ridiculous creatures of CL70, custom tailored to the mission I assign to them, whether faction or other PvE, or if I get any good at it, PvP. I did not get to enjoy any of the 200k/hr income that so many boasted of in that Income thread but I sure find the PvE aspects almost lazy easy with a mob in my pocket.
That some of the CH aspects are borked are beyond question. When I see a CL56 BE Rancor running like a little girl from a Sharnaff, there is much that is clear to any and all. When I look at Squad Leader orPikeman, I see that we have a long wait before we get our next go 'round of corrections, fixes and nerfs.
CHs were a pet project of Holocron (if I remember correctly) and when he left the nerfing began. CHs were "overpowered" in PvE and the nerf bat has hit too hard. But do the devs want the CH to go away? I don't think so, imho. I just think the devs are steering like a drunk on a dark highway for the middle of the road.
It is not my intention to argue with Meroc. I only want to put a little perspective on the case he presents.

I agree with a lot of what you say Meroc.
But plz dont go asking to mess up CH even more than it currently is.
If you want to be a Droid Handler then plz dump some of your skill points into it when it becomes available.
Dont expect every other CH to have to spend yet even more skill points going up a newly mergd tree that many of us dont even want.
Yanno, one of the above posts and something mentioned elsewhere just clicked for me. DeneziB is one of those Uber template people. MCH/Flame4 of course I shouldve known. They do not have skills they have a flamethrower. They do not have bugs pets are merely the distraction. DeneziB is exactly what I mentioned...someone who buys power. If indeed they are really CH.
I don't want to see it messed up either Tarn, but the fact of the matter is if DC is a seperate class it will appeal to some CH who will leave to take that. I mean, people that like pets, like pets. Those that like pets, but don't necessarily like "flesh" petscurrently take CH as there is no other class if you want a "pet" over CL 10 in SWG. Once DC opens, the only class that will actually have people leave it to join the new class will be CH.
If they combine CH and DC under the one class, at least CH will live on and people will have a choice to use a metal pet or a flesh pet (or both). It'd also help save the Dev's a lot of work trying to get both classes to "balance" with each other.
If DC is a seperate class I'd imagine yet more nerfs for CH. Imagine someone that takes DC and CH. If the classes aren't under the same parent class, how will the Dev's manage things like Max CL? If you take two classes, why should you be limited to only what a CH or a DC can call after spending twice the points? Things like that...

I've read many of DeniziB's posts. Surprisingly enough, I have learned something from this experience. What have I learned? I have learned thatsomeone with the intelligence of aretardedbaboon suffering from mad cow disease can put color in their sig.
OMG ROFL
sorry it had to be said
No, your called a troll because you're a condescendingself centered ass.

Ever since the patch my ferocity 8 gurrcat has never run away once. Not once. If your pet is running away all the time, ... get a pet like mine.
Hmm, ... you don't know how to make more than 20k an hour running missions with a pet. You don't know how to find a pet that can hold aggro. You are really starting to paint yourself as more and more incompetent as a CH with every post.
BTW, let me post all the professions that I play with alts, just so you all do not think you exclusively own the professions boards. My alts are: BE, Commando, TK, Chef, Rifleman, CH.
I find it amusing that the people who call me a "troll" are only doing so because my viewpoints contradict theirs and agree with the Devs. All my initial responses have been rational and well-thought out. The real trolls always come back with simpleton-like nonsense that reveals why they should not allow 13 year olds to play this game.

Denezib,
I like how you troll, it has style and flair. But it also shows how stupid you really are. For instance, given the view that TH stated "a pet should be like grouping with another Player". It would be really stupid for me to take damage. You show yourself how clueless that statement is when Riflemen have no real melee damage modifiers. Why would a rifleman group with someone who let him take damage, pet or otherwise?
Denezib, I truly believe you are Blunderheart come here to justify what ever stupid, idiotic justification you have for your hate towards CH. You have not stated one rational thing that leads me to believe you are even a CH.
Test 1) You hit /tellpet attack. Pet attacks and starts to run. You use /tellpet follow. Pet follows back. You hit /tellpet attack again. Pet does not keep agro. You have no defenses because you are CH/Rifleman. You wake in clone center.
Test 2) You have no pet to rely on so you use Conceal Shot. /mindshot. Hit peace. Run 100m. Wait a few minutes. Go back and do over. No damage because Snipers work solo. They use stealth and tactics.
Next on the agenda. Since you know nothing, I do not want to see you talk to us real CH in any demeaning manner. Go troll somewhere else. Taloncard is one of the finest CH's I know in game. His expertise has been very valuable to me.
Denezib, I am glad your mommy bought this game for you at Xmas. When you grow up and play the class maybe you can come back and talk to the grownups. Go back to the kiddie table please.
Not sure why I am feeding the Troll, but... DeneziB how much are the devs paying you? First off there was a bug with the patch that Every pet ran, regardless. GSH, GSR, TMB's, Never ran from battle in the past NEVER, they always fought to the death or close to it. After the patch every pet ran. I hunt with a Narglatch all the time, he is my Rancor Hunter pet. He NEVER ran EVER. Until after the patch. What you dont seem to understand, is some of the bugs do not affect everyone. just because it may work for you does not in fact make it the same for everyone. /Tellpet never worked for me before, and no I dont use "/tellpet a" blah blah blah.
20k an hour? interesting... if you are using this as your threshold, you are painting your own picture. Of course your ferocity 8 Gurrcat is holding agro on your Gubbur missions. with your "Experience" you should be doing 20k Missions...
There are bugs in game that have been there for Most of us for Months, that have been pushed back over and over and over. There was a request to remove Camp requirements.... They aggreed with the stipulation they add another 30second timer to it. When we asked to be more specific, it took them 3 weeks to respond with a smart a$$ comment from TH. They can not justify the 30 seconds, aside from preventing non existant Griefs...
So 14 year olds should have the right to play the game? Or are you 13 and a half?
well I am all for combining CH and DH. I proposed this a few weeks back on both the CH and DE boards and got utterly flamed by every single poster that bothered to respond. anyway I hope people take a minute to think about it this time, before flaming the idea.

Why don't you try this test:
(1) Usingtwo CL35 armored pets, and your rifleman skills, attack a Piket lair, first sending out your pets, then firing your rifle from 60 meters out. Examine your combat log and record how much damage the Pikets did to you.
(2) Using no pets at all, stand 60 meters from the lair and use your rifleman skills to attack the Pikets. Examine your combat log and record how much damage the Pikets did to you.
In Test 1, you will take ZERO damage. In Test 2, you will either be nearly dead, or dead.
This is the advantage of the CH class.
But then again, you're probably one of the incompetent CHs who can't even make 20k credits an hour running missions.
The rifleman would also take 0 damage, as he is under cover and can drop each Piket at 3k+ per shot one at a time before they figure out where he is prone.
The rifleman will also not have to spend 5-10 minutes and several thousand credits of stims healing his pets up afterwards. One food or spice (100 credits?) or under a minute of resting the mind bar (free) is all he requires.
The rifleman in your scenario would be better off NOT using his pets.
