Thread: CH and BE pets. Should they last forever?
Is this in the best interest of CH's or some other profession?
Why are people always trying to "fiddle" with this profession?
If you go to the Jedi forums, you'll find that it's dominated by BH's.
This forum is the same way - everyone else is trying to get CH's nerfed (even after 8 months of nerfs) to suit their own purposes.
BE's, DE's, Holo-grinder CH's, noobie CH's, they all have their own agenda.
And it's tough because most of them can say "I'm a CH too, and I think..." but what they say is really more in the best interest of some other profession.

The game needs permadeath for ALL pets.
If you have a favorite pet that you do not want to die, then you better be careful with it.
The way it is now, you can throw your favorite pet into any situation you want, and so what? There are no meaningful consequences.
The next time you're DB'd, Kharissa, reroll your character.
I want nerfherders to undergo permadeath.
I do not treat my creatures like you treat your scout blaster. I have issues with any CH who does. Each one of my creatures is special to me. Anytime they lose a vitality point, I feel a sharp pain inside me. I go out of my way, at the risk of my own life, to prevent that.
I care about them. They are my friends, my companions. When they feel pain, I feel pain. Ask ANYONE who I hunt with what kind of mood I'm in if one of my pets takes a vit hit. Ask some of my friends how badly I treat them if I believe, rightly or wrongly, that they did something that contributed to my pet's vit loss.
They are not disposable to me.
Well - as someone new to MCH this has been an eye opener!
I started out thinking that one way to keep the CH profession alive was to introduce the need to replace pets.
Now i know this is wrong.
I understand now that i must make decisions about which pets to keep and which pets to destroy if i want to continue to enjoy taming and training.
I didnt realise that this kind of nerf had happened before , and it didnt work - this is appreciate now and realise it is a bad idea.
I am a MCH and i want to stay a MCH - i do have a lot of feelings for my pets - whichi sometimes wish i hadn't since it clashes with my desire to look for more pets - and i cant bring myself to destroy them on purpose.
I am in this profession not to make money but because it like the idea of owning and looking after a pet.
Thanks and good luck to you all

The game would be a lot more fun if there were more people like you roleplaying their characters.
Would you say that you represent most CHs? Because in my experience, you do not. Maybe it is an accident of sampling.
Making decisions and dealing with consequences should be major factors in a roleplaying game. The current systemof no creature permadeath does not nurture those factors.
Well then you're just not reading this thread, and you definitely haven't been hanging around the right sort of CH's.
Almost all long-time MCH's are people who fall strongly for their pets as companions, not just tools.
(just read this thread to see that)
Theiris a system which makes us more careful to treat our pets kindly; we don't want to see any vitality loss if we can help it.
To act like the current system does not nuture those factors is to be blind to the currentreality.
I can see the patch notes now.
- At the requests of the Creature Handlers, pets will now suffer permadeath after 3 incapps.
- To promote the GCW the decision to drop decay on death has been extended to all insured deaths.
- Creature Handlers equipment and pets will continue to decay at death whether they are insured or not.
- Added the option of weeds in gardens.
- Made no attempt to correct the numerous Creature Handler bugs. They are working as designed.

im quite surprised to see this actually, i remember when there was only talk about introducing "decay" on pets and loss of vitality. man, did we all scream bloody murder back then. So many quit the profession, the game even. all the petitions....days long gone.
Since then and, many nerfs later, the professionhas becomepretty shredded from what it was at launch and im sure its not the last we'll see of the wrong end of the nerf bat. Sure bring it on, we've been there. What else is new? But, to hear our own kind calling for a nerf on itself...well, isnt that the cherry on the cake? heh, i think im loss for words here

And some more honesty. This change is for bio-engineers more than CHs.

1- this is NOT a change.
This is some guy posting a Pro-BE comment on the CH forum (just like the BH's do on the Jedi forum).
If I go to another profession forum and suggest something out of interest of another profession, then I'd be called a "troll" - that's all this is.
There is a system in place for vitality.
We've been down this road before.
The devs have already spoken on this issue.
It's been addressed, it's been fixed, it's been tweaked, it doesn't need to change.
2 - I'm sick and tired of getting nerfed for every other profession.
When are the other professions in this game going to be satisfied with the level of nerfage to the CH profession?

I think its fine as it is, already as an MCH, my main bulk of income DOES NOT come from selling pets. God knows how many times i turned down people who wanted to buy my pets. I make my money from PvE missions and using my pets to get me the highest paying ones and using them to tank for me while i flip out on them.
What is the role of creatures? combat support, mounts. thats it. sure our pets are pretty worthless in PvP and they are no better in terms of balanced advantage compared to speeders but DONT negate the fact that they do make missions alot easier in PvE. For the price you sell your wild pets now, you 1. waste enormous time taming them, 2. sell them forless money when you can make that in 10 mins doing a single rancor mission on dathomir. (This is of course with regard to making money with the CH class, no offense to MCHs who are rarecreature collectors)
As it stands, i have about 18 pets in my datapad, once the vit gets to about 90, i start thinking of replacing it so that by the time i have another one starting to hit that number, it will be fully grown. If the decay rate was any much faster than this, we would be spending more time taming and buying BE pets than actually enjoying the combat content in this game.
Should pets last forever? No. but the devs have already seen to it that they dont. In actual essence, the topic title is already off. it should be Should pets decay faster? i disagree.
