At Novice only ... you don't get any stronger pets than you would as non ch.... you only get 2 more stored and the ability to tame and some other commands to train pets.

To get anything higher level you have to advance in Tame and Train. Always remember you can't call what you can't tame and vice versa.

One is the max level of pet you can tame, and the other is the max level that you can fight with. So, you have enough skill to tame the piket, but not enought to control it.

Max Level of Pets is the difficulty you can train. This is gained threw the Creature Tamming Tree. If you have a +25 Max Level of Pets then you can only tameup to a Difficulty Lev 25 pet. Doesn't make sense since babies are considered DL 1. Although this also tells you what lev you can call from your datapad.

Max Number of Pet Levels is the total ammount of DL you can control. If you have Additional pets +2 you can control two pets out on the screen at a time. Now if you had a +35 to Max Number of Pet Levels you could have one pet at DL 35 out and under your controlor say two lower pets of DL 17 out.

This is an interesting CH question that comes up often and the answer is harder to explain, but this is what I normally tell people. Max Level of Pets is the max Level for a single pet that you can control. Max Number of Pet Levels is the max total Level of all pets you can control including if your only using one pet. Now if Max Level is Higher than the Max Numberthen the highest Level Pet that you can control is based on Max Number. If Max Number is Higher than the Max Level then thehighest Level Pet that you can control is based on Max Level.

Here is an illistration:

If you have 25 Max Level and 35 Max Number then you can control a LVL 25 pet and a LVL 10 pet. This gives you a total of 35.

If you have 35 Max Level and 25 Max Number then you can control only a LVL 25 pet. This gives you a total of 25.

When taming creatures I have also found that this holds true also. If you can not control the creature then you will not be able to tame it. You won't even be given the option to tame it. I had Max Level at 25 and Max Number at 15, but was not able to Tame a Grand Wrix which is 22. When I gained Max Number 25 I was able to go back and Tame a Grand Wrix.

Right now I have Max Level at 35 and Max Number at 40. This allows me to use a Grand Wrix 22 and a Molten Wrix 18. This is a total of 40. I can also use a Graul thats 30 and a small pet thats 10, butsometimes you will not be able to use a pet even though their CL is low enough. I have a lvl 34 pet that I can not control because its too agressive. So the CL is not the only limiting factor.

You have to be able to tame it in order to use it, so no couldn't use the lvl 25 pet.
