Thread: Change in Plans for Pet Calling Restrictions in Publish 7

because thunder dork thinks we can still do exploits that were eliminated 6 months ago that why there is a delay. this guy is so out of tune with what is going on its not even funny.
If this is true, then what was it? And the other part is, does he even know that it was fixed?

i recall holocron once saying that they don't want CH to be a 'summoning' class... like a wizard or necromancer. Calling a pet in swg should be more akin to whistling to your dog and having it run out of the bushes to where you are. It shouldn't be like that famous game by nintendo or like a mage calling a water elemental. from a pure gameplay/balance point of view, i don't see any reason for the 30 second delay or for needing to call a camp. but from a roleplay point of view i can see why it is important.
Fix it so my pets stay out and stay with me and the 30 sec timer becomes a very minor nusance.
(stay out= no autostore, stay with means keep up with my vehicle and or not stick at server boundries)
I have no problem with not being a 'summoning class' but calling my pet from the bushes could be called
'summoning'

Pretty much a pointless change. Developers never gave a reason why they are doing this. Yes there's a compromise, but of what? Supposedly TH said cause of some griefing reason (or was it exploit?), but of what?
There's no delay in the city or in camp. The only way one can grief usually is in pvp. Pvp occurs a lot mostly in city. So why is it exactly that the 30 second delay won't apply to the city.
I still wish to know what the exploit or griefing is that's attached to the reason why there's a 30 second delay for calling your pet out.
I don't see a compromise either. I see a clarification. We (many of us) object to the 30 sec call delay. Period. No exceptions. We asked that the camp restriction be removed. The Developers with the great help of our correspondent removed the camp restriction but added a 30 sec delay (this is one variation of 'bait and switch'). then follows much arging when people notice that the language of the text says 30 sec delay and makes no exemptions for camps and cities and declared residence (3 items). Some people argue that the 30 sec in the wild is ok but not for camps, cities, declared residences. Others argue the 30 sec delay is bad anytime. Still others argue the 30 sec is good and needed to pervent griefing. The Devs come back and say "Ok Ok you can have the exemtions for camps and cities (2 items). Thus we have clarified that the 30 sec delay is only for wild and declared residences that are NOT in a player city. That is not compromise that is just correcting an oversight (assuming they only wanted the 30 sec delay for the wild) or clarifying the details.

I have no idea what part of the code is affected by this change, orwhen the program sees a creature pet, faction pet, mount, vehicle, or droidas the same or when it sees them as different. I also do not know what future plans may require some changes to the code that might be best done now.
Ido howeverknowthat you do not either!
I alsoknow that when the changes were purposed the player based raised some valid concerns and a change to what was planned was made. Thatmeans they heard what we said, and that by definition islistening.
I'll go along with Pluto's challenge to Runesabre. Show me an actual grief and I'll be quiet.
Regardless of whether TH is in or out of touch with the current reality, I'd have to imagine that Runesabre and the devs are well aware of what can and can't be done right now.
I'm more concerned with a complete lack of response from the Devs regarding the pets not following problem and the auto-store problem. I realize it's not an easily duplicatable error because it doesn't happen all the time, but at some point I think you have to realize that we're just not making this up so we can take time to post on the boards. Maybe the cause isn't clear but you can safeguard against it happening and have the program correct itself when it does.

Vert, Rune and Fellow CH's,
This is one of many steps in a positive direction. Remember that clear, concise and well argued posts make it easier to convince the Devs to change something. While I personally run back and forth with my pets out, it does not change the fact others still wish to speed to their mission and call pets immediately. The closest this comes at this time is with the camp. While this really remains the same it is the better of the two evils.
Rune, I challenge any of the Dev team to show me a valid reason where calling my pets immediately is griefing.
Heh, yeah, I'm sure it's in the devs best interests to come on the boards and explain toEVERYONE how to exploit the game mechanics and grief other people.
Look, people wanted to be able to call pets anywhere. Maybe not the CHs because they could build a camp and do this anyway, but other classes who couldn't asked for the change. So the devs responded to this but knowing thing we probably don't, and things that they obviously don't WANT us to know, figured that if they allowed pet calling anywhere the game could be exploited either to griefOR give unfair advantage. I think more likely the latter since, as people have pointed out, if it wasa matter ofgriefing people this could bedone now.
Still, why do some people feel they need to be given an explanation for everything? Just because you don't know a way you could use this as an exploit, doesn't mean that someone on another server used a simliar type of exploit to cheat. Even if only him and 10 of his buddies knew it, why should the devs tell everyone else how it was done? Even if this change prevents it, you might be able to use a similar tactic to exploit another area of the game. Why give people ideas? ![]()
I'm all for community input on the direction the game goes but I don't feel we have a divine right to be given a reason for every change that's made.

I thought of that too. But the fact is that any supposed grief that could be gained by instantly calling pets could already be done by having the pet out to start. And 'gain advantage' doesn't cut it. Far more advantage to be gained by a novice tailor whipping out full composite armor and a flamethrower after combat starts. Plus, they're leaving in the in-city call, which really goes to prove the whole delay is without merit.

Can someone please explain this to me?
DaRoamer - The reason I would like to see an explanation for the various pet timer rules and regs is because I don't think they have a valid explanation. If it's an exploit, then you're right, they shouldn't publish it. Just shoot an email describing it to Vertexon, he can write a post saying, "Yes, there is a way of exploting if thereare no pet timers" and I'm sure most folks around here would stop asking for their removal.
However, since many posts by the devs on the CH topic seem to be based on logic that is no longer true or just plain doesn't make sense, I think our suspicions are warranted.
Of course, WE all knew that was ludicrous, given vehicles last a good few hours before needing repairs, and mission terminals are usually located in a city, which is also where vehicle garages are located.
So now maybe they're "thinking" to themselves that if they introduce all manner of obstructive and irritating delays on calling vehicles (oh, and pets etc), they'll introduce a few minutes' wait between each mission, and that will balance out the extra speed of vehicles.
Of course, WE all know that's ludicrous, given you can just leave your vehicle out in the open while you beat on some stuff.
I really cannot comprehend why else they would do this. Maybe it's just their inherent disliking of our profession.
