Anyway, no doubt I'm completely wrong, so I'd just like to add that I don't want to sign this because the amount of kiting generated would be stupid....just stupid!
Well, actually, I was able to "kite" while mounted. The trick was to attack the mob from a distancewhileun-mounted, then jump on your mount and start running. The mountwouldn'tslow down then, and I was able to plink away to my heart's content. (Or if the mount was running slower, I couldn't tell - the mobs were never able to catch up to me anyway).
However. Jak is right in that even pre-CU this was practical only againt very low level mobs. I was able to kill higher level mobs but it took so long that myfinger would go numb from hitting the mouse button
With the new CL system, your monitor would burn out before you killed any high level mobs (i.e. mobs near your own level or higher).
Still, I'm not sure I like mounted combat even without any possibility of any sort of kiting. I HATE that my mount slows down for combat when I'm just travelling along. My personal preference would be to have no mounted combat and the devs get rid of "the slows down for combat" thing all together. Unless it's possible to have 2 kinds of mounts - one for combat and one for travel. I'd certainly go for something like that.

I like this idea a lot ![]()
I wonder whether a new command could be brought in so that there are 2 mount commands -
1) Train Pet as Mount
2) Train Pet as Combat Mount
Would be cool but doubt it would happen - shame tbh
i wanna charge in to a group of stormies on my lizard, carbine blazing!
seeing bikes rush past me is bad enoguh when im riding a mount but slowing down for combat wnhe i cant engage in combat is..... (not finishing sentence as words required are banned)
Yea I remember it well, although never really effective for the times back then it was "fun" and isn't that why we are here. I remember me and a half dozen guilmates running around the out skirts of our city on mounts attacking stuff and making jokes the whole time, we could do this for an hrwhile having alaugh or two. It was funny just watching the mounts bounce up and down.
This is inpart some of what we are lacking ingame, just plain stupid fun. it seems its all achievement and bravado today. I miss the days of stupid fun, who cares about being uber or getting this and having that. for some reason the level system has done this. maybe its the number always showing but it like a marker saying your no good unless ...
Mounted combat would be a start and for now I wouldn't care how effective just a basic ranged/melee hit will do. but it would bring back a little stupid fun for me so I agree.
I think you summed it up very well...it was just fun. Mounted combat was never really effective...it was something that most people did while in a large group and they could just do their normal attack and still get by...it just wasn't useful for much else. It was, however, just extremely fun and cool. There is something cool about riding around on your cupa or bantha and shooting at some sand people...it's just plain fun. We need that again in this age of number crunching and extreme power gaming.
