Thread: Can Creature Handler survive this revamp if it is a failure
Message Edited by jopenack on 04-26-2005 07:59 AM
This was a major factor in the game for quite sometime but slowly people started to go solo and the groups dropped off.
I've not beeb on the TC so can't comment on what the CU is gonna be like but I am hopeful that grouping will be back in force and the game will become more fun
I have been thanking of what to say here.
Only US CH can only make it survive
I've had many friends leave CH, including my CH mentor (you know who you are). I find that the community of veteran CHs seems to be shrinking a bit, people moving on to other professions but still ready to respec in case the CU turns out alright.
At the same time it seems that atleast on my server there has been an influx in new CHs and intrest in CH as a whole due to the CU. People have heard CH is going to be returned to their former glory, and I find myself drilled with questions whenever my tag is on. I know many people who are going to respec into CH
I feel the change is going to be very simmilar to what a lot of professions are recieving, a return from people who loved the profession, but felt it too weak to go on. Maybe these people, although CH may fail, will stay. I also see a lot more people becoming CHs or atleast keeping the tag after a bit of effort.
I've done a bit of testing on the TC, and played as a variety of professions, eventualy settling on MCH/MCarbines/NSL.
For the first time in a while I saw atleast one pet pulled in most battles, PvP or no. For all the tamers out there mask scent is greatly improved, and with the right food it should be quite possible to tame nearly anything without bieng detected, or so my experiance with my few pet rancor tamings proved.
I feel the CU has really leveled the playing field, and so far I really havn't seen any completly gimped or G-dly combat professions. This is the case with CH.
On the other hand I'll miss our old HAM system, and the CU is far too unpolished for release.
Although a step in the right direction the CU does have many flaws, including a level system that is a bit too strict, and issues with NPC AI, which obviously affects pets.
I was quite succesful with my efforts on the TC coming close to soloing a rancor lair or two (if nighsister rangers didn't spawn behind me) and for a bit it was something quite new, foreign and fun.
I feel that the Devs are probably going to fix pet specials qutie quickly, and the issue of viewing pet HAM. Intrest has peaked in CH.
After a half an hour to an hour, possibly two hours a day, I'd get tired of the CU and I'd log back on chilastra my home.
Looks like now I will have no home to return to.
Yet I will still be the poor lunatic roving CH of chilastra.
Here's what my character is all about...
He's a solitary wookiee. He travels and tames pets on different planets and gives them a loving home where he interacts with them and uses them as companions. This makes him happy. He also likes to share his pets with others and can often be found hanging out in Coronet interacting with his pets. People will come up and watch, curious at the site before them. Others will come up and ask if I can tame/train their pet. Still others have questions. My mood is always happy (/mood happy, you should try it sometime). A smiling wookiee makes a great impression on people. I am always happy to help others and willing to answer questions. My goal is to rub off on everyone in a positive way. Show them that there's another side to CH than just having pets for killing.
And ya know what? It works. People respond positively to this and they keep coming back to me fortheir pet needs. I make friends right and left, because I'm open, forthright, helpful and friendly. And I'm actually roleplaying the CH, not just running around with pets trailing behind me and a weapon in my hand. How many CH's do you know that run around town on mounts all the time, or just take the time to roleplay with their pets in a public setting?
SWG *is* a roleplaying game. There's more to this game than killing stuff with CH. I am a peaceful CH and I roleplay it as such. I won't send my pets needlessly into battle without good reason. My pets are my family and my companions. This whole other aspect, the roleplaying aspect, of CH is what most servers lack. On Intrepid, I became pretty darn popular as a CH because I was willing to take the time to help and interact with people. I made so many friends. It's happening again on Gorath. I've only been a CH for a few days and already people are coming around.
This is what CH is all about to me. Roleplaying a creature handler that IS a creature handler. So, the CU has no bearing on my own CH experience. I'm staying.
