Thread: Can Creature Handler survive this revamp if it is a failure

I have been a master ch since i started playing this game nearly 2 years ago and since then have accomplished a lot completing my wonderful pet collection and starting the guild BEAST. I enjoy the ch profession so much that regardless of what happens will continue to be a creature handler. I would miss my pets too much and with multiple accounts I can do other professions such as Jedi with my seperate accounts.

However I have seen a lot of people give up creature handler. Some who are close friends whom had been ch for a long timeand became fed up with waiting on the profession to become stronger. Others simply leave the game such as Tivo whom lost faith that swg would fix the ch profession. To those who have remained a master ch during these tough times with the hope that the revamp will be our salvation I saluteyou.

If this revamp fails I fear that our ranks will fall very low where there will be very few master ch left. Perhaps it was the games idea to make our profession like the jedi was supposed to be where there would be very few of us except the most committed. Not just this profession but I know smuggler has also been standing in the shadows waiting to be revitalized as well as other professions that could use some rebalancing.

So after reading this will you continue to be a master ch if the revamp fails? I have already stated that I will continue being a master ch because of my pets and enjoyment of hunting. What will keep you being a Creature Handler in this next system or even playing the game if this revamp does not work out?

I have had three different characters in this game - all CHs. I'm considering buildinga 4th atm, and this one will also be a CH. That would mean I havethree active and all played regularly. If the the CURB 'fails' the CH I'll still be playing two (three) CHs. The pet system and rare hunting IS SWG to me... Eventually, I will probably move to a more rewarding online game when I find one that has a pet combat/collector system, but untilthen (and probably after thatalso) I'll be a very proud, though possiblyhandicapped SWG CH

I think thats a loaded question lol.

Can CH survive, yes in some form or another there will always be CH ingame, even if its a minority of old players and majority of the new people. It will survive.

Will the veterans remain, that is yet to be seen. As we all know it seems that every revamp loses a percentage of veterans, how many this time I don't know. Personally speaking it may be my time to step down and pass the torch and a few pets onto someone else. I have always "just" wanted to be a ch as my close friends ingame (Who have left by the way) can attest. I could speak of our historyand give dates of nerf's, neglect, and dissapointment. But I won't rehash it all most know of it, if not lived them all.

My opinion is well known on these forums of whats being pushed live soon. My days may be numbered although my account runs dry in sept. I may not hold my MCH title after the respec. It will be a very hard thing to do and it saddens me.

I wish you and others better luck

I like the prof a ton, but I really don't being left out in the cold. I don't like how professions get ignored, like DE's and the arificial limbs. Makes sense to have a DE make them, right? will they? nope.

Us sinking, what? 106 skill points or so into a profession where our 'pets' run off after durni's, disappear, and have other cute issues. I have not been on TC yet, but all I want is a fighting chance to continue what I am doing.

i think the larger question is will SWG survive if the revamp is a failure..and from what i've played i believe it is (a failure)so far..that is my OPINION, if you love it, hey, i'm happy for you, but i do not find it very engaging..

a lot of people have canceledand are planning on canceling, in fact SOE removed the "cancel" option to try to curtail this

if more people cancel than join, and i have to wonder why they would join a game that i'm assuming will get poor reviews, if the general discontent for the CU spill over to the reviewers, when there are a lot of better games out there, SWG may be heading for oblivion..mabey parents will assume star wars is a safer environment for their 9 yr olds to enjoy, than the matrix, and since the "new" design seems to be geared towards children perhaps that's where the marketing will be directed. as uninovative as the curb is so far, i cannot imaging any seasoned gamers signing on for long, when there are other options out there.

i've said it before: if the game isn't fun , people won't play..we don't have to..no fun = no $ for soe which leads to no more SWG

When the respec options come up once this all goes live, I'll make my main account's second toon (alt from jedi unlock)into an MCH, transfer my pets from my secondary account MCH, and then cancel that secondary account.

But that's not because I plan to play as an MCH anymore. Rather, I just want to preserve my pets in the hopes that one day I can come back. After the CU goes live, I'll play it for a while, but more than likely I'll be putting my primary account toons into carbonite. It will take a while before I'll find the nerve to completely cancel my main account after 2 years of non-stop activity and achievement. Doesn't mean I'll be playing it- just means I'll be keeping it there in case I get the urge to come back. But it would take a miracle from devland for that to happen.

I figure I'll give the CU a month after it's live, and if I'm not happy with it I won't drop MCH, but I will be leaving SWG, perhaps to come back later, or maybe never, but I really have no interest in playing any other prof than ch at this point and if it's no fun after cu, then I'll be moving on...soe's taking a HUGE risk in pushing this, basically changing the entire game and alienating roughly 50+% of it's playerbase for swg...marketing schmarketing I say, all the hype in the world won't pull the titanic out of the water...

One month, well see...

gah what a night... what day is it anyways???

*waves to Milteck*

anything interesting happen lately???

well now to speak my 2 cents... will CH survive??? hmm, well ppl like you have been one from day one... i doubt you will ever get rid or it... there are others like that too...

my info is rather dated but i'm guessing that not much has changed since i up and quit one day... CH was a profession that could be played with much success then... but since the killer nerf oh so long ago it has become a profession that one has to really wanna play... a nitch so to speak... it will probably remain that way... 99% of the oldtimers are gone from the profession, the dabblers are gone, it had become a profession of love more than anything... you're not uber with it (when i left i could solo anything in the game being a MCH), but there will always be some out there that want to have these really cool pets...

I think this is a very loaded question.

1. The CU is a dramatic departure, and thats more a plus then a minus. The game has really gotten to be old hat, and needs a total reworking. Every day I read how someone has got a handle on how the new system works, and is finding it to be challenging and fun. On the other hand there seem to be people with major psychotic hatreds. Probabally not justified. Alot of it is people have become addicted to a vision that was dated when it hatched.

2. Some veterans will leave some will stay new faces will come old vets will return. Its really a moot point. I have yet to see where the CU equates to bad game. A rather different experience, and yes it still has issues. The interface is a bit clumsy the AI has problems. The leveling is a little too rigid. Thats what testing is about. So you just have to reserve judgement. The CU will have dramatic upsides and downsides. So does the current system. I almost jumped out of my seat when I heard of a commando actually being able to use a grenade for something.

3. I am a MBH and always will be my first love. So for me while I really do like CH if it means crippleing my BH to drop it I will. I really hope that this is not the case, and that the professions can merge. I think the devs will do a fairly decent job for chs in the CU for no other reason then alot of players really like what the profession can be, and bringing this profession would definately expand the play experience not detract from it. Poor smugglers though there is just no way for smugglers to get a fulfilling roleplay role right now, but they still have slices, and their spices look to be makeing a come back.

4. CH still has issues in the CU. Part of its perception, and part of it is real. Example alot of the complainers are going nuts over the hate system. Though if you balance your template properly solo this is not a issue, and with other classes getting working knockdowns and rooting attacks ch should still be effective even with a strong hate system. The issues I saw with ch were as follows. Poor pet obedience. A lack of pet multi tasking, and a lack of being able to fairly judge the pets in combat. I am sure the later will be fixed soon. The other two while annoying are far from game breaking. I seriously cannot wait to see the diverse and interesting tactics this will bring about.

If your a riflemen and a ch I will be a dollar that when you fight it will be totally different for a tka ch. Which is an interesting thought in and of itself. Will ch be as generic in how it will be played as in the past. I am sure we will have players useing pets as sappers in pve, and other players that will be able to tandem. Just a thought.

I will stick with the CU up till may 11 when my subscription comes due. I may like it I may hate it, but I will wait to see how it plays in live first.

Well the last patch on TC made a ton of changes to pets, so I guess they take our impact on the game into consideration.

I've seen a lot of changes to CH. As a veteran I know first-hand how all of you feel about change, bugs, combat, etc. I've been there. I think it's my experiences in the past with CH that have changed me for the better. At one point I was bleeding my heart out on this forum, trying to have things changed for the better, to get CH some love. What happened was I ran out of juice and I gave up. I dropped CH altogether and tried TKM and PVP. That was short-lived and I just had to quit the game. I was so burned out.

A year later and I'm back. Even the allure of WoW wasn't enough to keep me away from CH. There's just nothing like it in any MMORPG. The depth is what I craved. So I came back and I started a new character on a new server to give myself a clean slate.

What I like most about CH is the taming/training and the role-playing aspects of helping others with pets and the interactions. There was a time when I cared about CH's role in combat, but not so much anymore. Yes, it's nice to have pets to tank for you and help along, but if you're all about combat I think you should probably choose a different profession, one aimed more at combat solely. That's just my opinion. I'm going into CH with the goal of having fun with my creatures, which for the most part won't include combat unless I'm working on a lair to get babies.

Long story short, I've been killing stuff in every MMORPG I've ever played. I'm sick of it. There's way more to a role-playing game than killing stuff all the time. My goal is to pursue that aspect of the game.

The CU will have very little impact on me and I'm respeccing to ensure I'm a non-combat character (BE/CH). I'm looking forward to all of the role-playing possibilities and enjoyment that comes with CH. The core part of CH is still here... the fun of having pets. Combat is just going to be an afterthought for me. I'm one veteran that will be around for awhile.

Hopefully my character willlead by example and show a different side of CH not often found. It's not all about combat. It's about the creatures.
