Again , at the risk of being arguementative, i disagree!

Cats live about 14 years , dogs about the same , hamsters and gerbils a lot less , pets in real life, do not live as long as their owners?

And the point is really about the economy of the CH profession, other professions have 'tools' that were out and have to be replaced by creative professions , so why shouldn't we have a market place that keeps changing due to pets wearing out?

The economics of CH are, in my view, near non-existant. There simply isn't much demand for creature pets; non-CH controllable creatures are either mounts or novelties, not fighting pets (or should be so, aside from the bugged BE critters); CHs trading pets among themselves is pretty limited. BE pets are replaced as better stats come out on the latest creation out of the lab. The BE's real money maker is in engineered tissues and in pet stims and vit packs.

It's true that cats live about 14 years. How many years has SWG been live? About .5 years. So there's a problem here?

Hey Einstein, with vehicles and the soon to be droid invasion, who do you think is going to use pets? Creature Handlers perhaps? Oh pets already die real easy now. How many non-ch to you see with non BE pets now? Sure, our profession is not borked enough let's work on it some more. "Please, sir. May I have anouther?"

No they don't. They incap really easily. Once stored in the datapad and called after a while they are as good as new, with maybe a 1% (if that) drop in vitality. Basically, that makes them (re)usable for as long as one wishes to remain a CH.

Stop throwing your NERF dummyout of your pram, the poster raiseda valid point, if all you are going to do is flame him for raising it and make sarcastic posts without making a valid contribution or counter-point then don't bother entering the discussion.

I'm sorry, but I don't want my pets going poof because of a few greedy CH's that can only make their credits through pet and mount sales. No thanks.

No, the poster did not make a valid point. His post is in effect asking if we want to be nerfed again. While this would benefit BE's (like they need any more credits) and the few CH's that sell mounts or olther pets, it would cripple the rest of us.

The Creature Handling system we have here was in large part copied from Ultime Online's animal taming system. We went through the same discussions and arguments over there. And the end result there, as it is here, is that the vast majority want their pets to live long lives. Most of us want the chance for our pet to in effect last forever, if given the proper care and treatment.

The big difference between the two games is that you can actually get your pet to improve with proper care and training in UO. That's something I've always wished would be implemented here in SWG. But if they aren't going to do that, I'm certainly not going to support unfounded decay of pets just so a few players can line their pockets with credits.

Here Here!!!

As you quite rightly state (and Mr Hawat wrongly states) pets do not die , just incap , and therefor do not need replacing - at the moment. Which brings us full circle back to the original post - if pets 'died' we would need to supply more!

Also, has MrHawat not had to replace any of his other 'tools' of his trade when they have been used? never had to replace a pistol?, some armour? Im a novice pistoleer and i have had to do both with startling regularity to achieve my levels. And i have suffered complete write offs of equipment when a repair fails - (150k wasted on a Kraypt Pistol - but thats another story!)

Surely MrHawat can see that making pets expendable keeps CH in a job (and BE for that matter but u cant win em all), and perhaps make it slightly more viable!

So , here have your dummy back!

Muzz, your signature says it all. Soon to be BE and giving up useless CH profession. I guess you just want to make it totally useless before you go.

why does the CH forums feel like a constant barage from the BE and DE forums wanting CH's to get nerfed again?

We've been there - we've done that - and the devs added vitality loss to keep pet from lasting forever.

However, there was also cases in the past where pets would lose 20 or more vitality points in 1 battle because the poor thing would get incapped, stand up, get incapped again, stand up, get incapped again, and so on.

so the devs had to adjust it again.

I recall at least 3 times that the devs have addressed this already.

1 - when they introduced the vitality loss

2 - when they adjusted the stat loss that occurs with vitality loss

3 - when they adjusted the incap/storing pets to prevent multiple vitailtiy loss in 1 battle.

AnyCH who has played the profession for the last 6 months will rememberthis.

Unfortunately, there are BE's and others who are pushing their own agenda on these forums.

The vitality has been tweaked 3 times already - it's fine.

It all depends on how you see the CH profession.

Is it a way of making money? or a support role where u own the pets for the sake of it , not for profit?

Well other professions use the tools of their trade to make money so i dont see why we shouldnt! I have actually sold very few pets for profit, in fact most i give away to up and coming CH to give them a hand with there CH XP.

But if decay is not the way to go,i need some other incentive to tame and train more pets. I have a full datapad of 'useful' pets , and some i have actually grown quite fond of and i cant just destroy them , i like to see them goto a good home - but no one wants them!

So where is the drive to go out and find and tame and train new ones , if the ones you have got live forever? I am always stopping off at weapon shops, looking for a better pistol, maybe with better speed or more damage or less ham cost to replace the one ive nearly worn out.

I really do not want to see a 'nerf' to the profession , just something to help keep the economics alive, and give a purpose to CH to keep taming and training once their datapad is full.

I don't think any CH's don't make credits through pet and mount sales, and if any did try it they'd be bankrupt quicker than Mike Tyson. BE's make whatever money there is in the creature business.

I bet Commandos don't want their HWs to wear down either, but they do.

For the record, I am a MCH/MPistol.

I have replaced all of the above many many times. I would agree with this if all the crafting profession's resources just went poof one day. The pistol you bought that does 300 damage now only does 3 and hardly ever works. It also falls from your inventory when you travel and poofs when you need it. That harvester you placed just wandered off and now you can't find it or place another. Those stims you bought no longer work and in the middle of a nasty fight you armor poofs leaving you standing there in you underwear. Then you can have my beloved pets perma die.

Yes CavemanGamer - i agree - we have vitality loss, but i have yet to have any of my creature drop below 97% and have seen no loss in their abilities. Has anyone come across a pet with a large loss of vitality under the new rules? Does it really do the job it is supposed to do? I try to keep all of my pets at the maximum of their vitality but even the ones i use the most have not hardly been affected at all.

"...it would cripple the rest of us."

If the very occasional permadeath of 1 of your 22 pets cripples you as a CH then you need to seriously look at your style of gameplay.

What would Weaponsmiths and Armoursmiths say and do if the weapons and armour they sold lasted forever??
