I have a theory on this.

Considering that most poeple playig SWG are male, even if the toon is female, there is an uncontrolable child like urge towards the Rancor. Whyd o you ask, simple.

Most male children when growing up are utterly facinated with Dinosaurs. I know I was. I would watch Land of the Lost, Caveman, and anything with dinos in them.

I agreed,

I am a girl and maybe that's whyI feel I need a caveman (gurk)to go along with the many space dinos.

(If any devs are looking hint, hint,)

Because there was a CH in the Star Wars movie that had one in Jabba's Palace. since I am paying to be "in the movie" like advertised, I want one.

The dinosaur theory is an interesting one... I don't think I'd ever heard that before. That couldhave contributed to thepopularity of things like bols (triceratops), blurrgs/kwi (velociraptor), and dewbacks (stegosaurus without the fins?). Not to mention the whole krayt/kimogila deal.

My big question is what's up with all the bug pets? I mean... it's cool if you like bugs. But really... bugs?

HOLY MOLY!!! VERT ACTUALLY RESPONDED TO ONE OF MY THREAD!!!!!! I AM NOW, FINALLY, A REAL CREATURE HANDLER ON THE BOARD!!! YAY ME!!!

thats why I'm doing CH I want a rancor cause I liked the one in the film.

I also like the big creatures like faambas and tortons.

ohhh and the cupa's look like desert Taun-tauns, and dewbacks are great as well cause you see stormtroopers riding them in one of the films.

and bantha's cause sandpeople ride those, and.....

ok so I love all the creatures. but Rancors are the best, if I could have a hoth wompa I'd want one of those as well

Personaly I would like a BE'd durni that's got kick ass stats over a giant rancor any day.

I made one of those - Mipsy is CL 65 and spits acid

Actually, I sell more Kimos than I do Rancors, but they both sell better than the cats I make to actually fight with.

Kimos, Rancors and the other "big" skins arereally pretty useless - they are far, far too slow moving and frequently get stuck.

But then, I guess everyone wants at least one pet just for posing with. That certainly is the main function of Noxious (my kimo) who would certainly lose a standup fight with Mipsy.

I think it comes down to the psychology of dominance. Without going into a big ranting session about human arrogance and human nature, it's basically the idea of being able to control something as big and powerful as a rancor. The idea that you are somehow in control of something so dangerous and lethal; and you're it's master. Come on, how many of us have fantasized about owning our own ancient krayt with its 72m HAM, or whatever it is.

Also, I think the "mine's bigger than yours" rule partially comes into play.

If stupidity got us into this mess then why can't it get us out of it?

I don't need to hate people on the basis of race, color, creed, religion, nationality, or any of those other things. 30 seconds of conversation usually does the trick.

Hmm... Maybe, but that doesn't explain my level 70 squall. lol I actually don't really even care much for rancor's. Unless you have a BE created one, they really aren't that tough. I guess it depends on what your fighting, but I prefer the kinetic protection that Grauls have.

I've always wanted a Rancor since I first heard about SWG. The very first day I saw the Proffession list I said "I'm gonna be a CH with a Rancor." even my name should have said Rancortrainer, but I had a brainfart and put banthatrainer....so now I have a massive army of BE Bantha's that everyone thinks is laughable on their way to the clone center. Still though as soon I get master I'm getting a Rancor as well as one of those huge turtle things, I think its a Tortin or Torton.

Today I needed to free up some datapad space so whipped out a spare rancor in coronet and was offering it free to anyone who could use it (i.e. I could transfer it to) - I hate killing pets, and can't just walk past those cute lumpy babies..........

Anyway, an obvious newbie walked up and spent several minutes inspecting Freddie, finally coming out with "WOW! He's huge!", "wish I could have a pet like that" and similar expressions of awe.

I'm sort of ashamed to admit I got a nice glow off that. I guess that's why people want rancors (even if they are actually rubbish for fighting!)

You know what I enjoy? Well, to start off, I usually make a trip to Dath once in a while and get anywhere from 5 to 10 Lowland brackasets stocked up on my datapad. Once they are grown I hand them out to new people who don't have vehicles or mounts yet. I can't believe how excited some people get the first time they ride them. It's great fun. Sometimes if I'm bored I go to Mos Eisley and just hang out helping newbies. I'm the perfect person to help them because I've played almost every profession at one time or another. Plus, I have pets that make great tanks but don't do a whole lot of damage. So, I can get them some decent experience quickly. I used to even pack around extra novice marksman weapons to give out. Anyways, I was just thinking that you may want to use some of those good feelings to help some of the new people out.
