I am not a star wars buff....only seen part of the one movie where the princess was running around braless...anyways

I think people want rancors as pets because, from what I read, rancors were the ulitimate bad ( ! ) creature in the entire SW storyline.

edit: But since pets got molested by Uncle Nerfington... rancors are horrible

I know what you mean. I tend to talk to them a bit and then help them with some missions first before I start giving them stuff. That way I can tell if they are just out for some freebie's or if they actually want to play. In other words... I help those who help themselves. lol

This is an interesting discussion.

When I took up CH, I had no desire to have a rancor. None. At one point, I even said I'd never have one on my datapad.

I'm into the cats, mostly, but I did want to have a huf dun for a long time, and when fambaas became tamable, I went out looking for a baby the first night, and got one. Just because they're big and make lots of noise. It's what they're good for.

Then a friend who I mentored up through CH went on a baby taming spree on Dathomir, to celebrate her new MCH status, and brought a rancor (baby) back for me. I accepted the gift, and he's still on my datapad to this day, but uncallable as I'm at 0/0/1/4 pending dropping commando for something else. I've gone silent on the holo, and I may try to grind out a few combat professions before pub 10 to unlock, but frankly, I don't have much desire to get an FS slot, not knowing that many of the Jedi out there are powergaming asshats who don't deserve to be Jedi in the first place. Eventually, I'll be an MCH again, even though from a combat perspective it makes no sense. This may change if buffs and armor are ever nerfed, but SOE is mortally afraid of the backlash of the change that must happen to rebalance PvE, and I dont' blame them. They've really screwed the kusak on this issue.

So, anyway, my rancor, Candyass, will someday walk around again, but they're just not that great as a combat pet. Oh, they're great for scaring n00bies, but eventually new players figure out that creature pets are not that dangerous. Even ones that look dangerous, like rancors.

When I first started the game, I was in anchorhead. And saw someone's rancor standing on the hill above the starport. I wanted to be a CH ever since then...

Hmm....well to me honestly, i think its just apart of the trade. Every CH at one point or another will eventually want to get their hands on one of them or will contemplate getting one; whether it be caught or BE made. It's equivalent to how some players want to collect all of the rare things they can possibly get. Do they have to own all of them? not really. Do CH's have to own a rancor? not really it all depends on personal interests and style to me. Take care all, have a good one!-

i wanted one cause i like how they look, and i find rancors just as usful as anything else . i do missions all day long with out pets , i just dont really need pets to do missions i just use them to get missions that i want

This is exactly the reason why I'd like to see buff's nerfed and armor revamped.
