I have a theory on this.
Considering that most poeple playig SWG are male, even if the toon is female, there is an uncontrolable child like urge towards the Rancor. Whyd o you ask, simple.
Most male children when growing up are utterly facinated with Dinosaurs. I know I was. I would watch Land of the Lost, Caveman, and anything with dinos in them. Heck, even still today, if the Discovery channel has a special on Dinosaurs,I try to watch it. I sat and watched Jurassic park I, II, III back to back oneday, drovemy wife nuts.
That being said, there were many popular Dinosaurs, the Braciosauras, one of the largest herbavors to walk the earth, the Anklyosaur, a living armor plated tank with abone ball at the end of it's tail to wreck havok, the Triceratops, a herbivor with 3 horns on his plated head used for defence, and with the addition of Jurassic Park, the Velociraptor gained fame. But there is one Dinosaur that if you asked someone which was there favorite, and most of the time it would be the BIG DADDY OF THEM ALL. That's right, I'm talking about the Terrirble Lizard, The Tyranasorus Rex. This Carnivoristic big daddy just looked mean, 12 inch razor teeth, masive strong back legs, a 6 foot deep mouth that could just tear you to bits. Granted, it's coming to knowledge now that Big T was probably a scavenger for the most part, but it dont' matter, that child like awe of this monster still sets in that he was the one who made the rules and did what ever he wanted.
Now, if you look at it, the closest thing we got out there is the Rancor, big teeth, feroucious demenor, and awe inspiring visage. And seeing it in RTJ, it just looked like it should have been back in the time of Dinosaurs, kicking butt and taking names.
That's just my opinion, and honestly, I think that's one reason why I want the Rancor, don't have to be a Baby Bull, but a Rancor in general.

Yes, and being a BE, I always get the question... "Whats the lowest level Rancor you can make?"
My friend controls a vendor for me. I asked him what seems to sell the best. He said the rancors and grauls go the fastest by far, followed by the kitties. "Cute" pets don't sell that well at all, even if it spits bees out of its mouth.

I'd say chalk it up to **edit** envy. Why do people always want the fastest computer, why do they want the speediest car. Why do people try to see who can drink the most shots of the strongest alcohol. Because of the desire to be bigger, better and faster than the guy next door.
Personaly I would like a BE'd durni that's got kick ass stats over a giant rancor any day.

I think the sig says it all.
Ever since I saw RotJ, I have been facinated with Rancors in the SW universe. They are big, mean and can take down things twice their size. (T-Rex is almost my favorite dinosaur too)
Rancors are--I think--the most over looked CH pet. Given it's "history" it should be one, if not the best pet a CH can own...

Because there was a CH in the Star Wars movie that had one in Jabba's Palace. since I am paying to be "in the movie" like advertised, I want one.
That's actually fairly close to the truth for me as well...watching the movies, the rancor was recognized as one of the biggest, baddest monsters. To be able to run around a city with a rancor in tow is just one of the cooler parts of the game, in my opinion.
I have never really had any interest in dinosaurs or anything like that - but I do tend to stick to the large impressive looking creatures in-game...Rancor, Kimo, Malkloc, Ravenous Torton, Graul, etc...

I have a level 70 BE created squall with 50% kinetic resists, dizzy attack, and if I remember correctly over 13k HAM. He doesn't run very fast, but I love seeing him take down a rancor or any other large creature.

The dinosaur theory is an interesting one... I don't think I'd ever heard that before. That couldhave contributed to thepopularity of things like bols (triceratops), blurrgs/kwi (velociraptor), and dewbacks (stegosaurus without the fins?). Not to mention the whole krayt/kimogila deal.
My big question is what's up with all the bug pets? I mean... it's cool if you like bugs. But really... bugs?

I am a female and want one just because it is so mean looking and seems to me it would rip to shreds other players when needed. At the very least provide a nice distraction during pvp
When I saw one in the movies I just thought it was neater than other critters and it is really neat they are a part of the game as a pet.

My favorite pets are the widow, bull rancor, merek king, gaping Queen, and Great Plains Stalkers.
I love all my pets and its hard to chose a favorite and at times its a hard to chose which pet I would like to use. I think taming a rancor reflects the movies because I became a creature handler wanting to tame one.

A Rancor is a big, mean, scary monster! I just had to have one.
I got a BE kind with dark green skin, was the most scary look I could find. I hope to find a Bull Rancor baby some day, those are cool also.
I know that BE kitties probablly are best overall for PvE combat, but there is just something about that big rancor fighting for me. It is special in its own way, no other pets have that same thing.

I agree with you almost 100%... my favorite growing up was the Stegosaurus. Huge plates on his back used for defense and possibly for basking in the sun to gain heat faster (although there may be some talk of some Dinos being warm blooded and not cold.) Stego was for me the best Dino of them all! Hell when Transformers was out I always was begging for Snarl the Stego Dinobot over any other. The reason why I want a Rancor is however because well it's big and it's mean and can take one hell of a beating... well at least in the movies
